Max Kellerman (HBO): Floyd Just Using Pacquiao As Pawn For May 2nd Date

Not if it's going head to head with a Mayweather fight. Alvarez and Mayweather are big headed neither will want to move but Cotto will see sense. I thought it was already made clear that the distributors(cable/satellite providers) would never agree to do a head-to-head PPV. I've said this before and I'll say it again, I don't think Floyd fights in the first half of 2015. He won't be able to find a worthy opponent that can knock off Cotto-Canelo card from it's supposed May 2nd date and instead of moving the date he'll just take a year off.

Canelo and Cotto need to set a deadline for announcing Pacquiao vs Floyd Like they should say, they have until Feb 1st to announce Pac vs Floyd or else we're taking Cinco De Mayo no matter what. Problem solved.

He has fought on that date every year for the past few years. Floyd said after the Maidana fight that he would be fighting again on May 2 -- before the Cotto/Alvarez potential fight was even discussed. 3) The Cotto/Alvarez fight is still being negotiated and may not happen at all. How can Floyd be aware that Cotto and Canelo are fighting on that date when the fight hasn't even been signed. Kellerman is a typical HBO slug. HBO is not taking the date from Mayweather and HBO.

I already knew that Floyd has been under alot of pressure this year and the May 2nd date was the icing on the cake...but who cares why ...We just want to see the fight And this fight needs no promotion...once its official both contracts ares signed...THe sports world will lose their mind

This looks like some crap that Ronnie Nathanielz would write. It also sounds like another conspiracy theory created by Bob Arum supporters to justify his refusal to make a Mayweather/Pacquiao fight. Mayweather wants to fight on May 2, so he will be fighting on May 2, whether it is against Pacquaio or Khan. If Alvarez tries to piss in Mayweather's kool-aid by fighting on the same date, he will be fighting Joshua Clottey on regular HBO. It damn sure won't be against Cotto because Cotto, like Mayweather, is a businessman and will do what is in his best interest. Unless he is fighting a rematch against Mayweather, it is in Cotto's best interest to fight on the weekend coinciding with the Puerto Rican Day Parade, so that is when he will fight, regardless of whether it is against Alvarez or someone else. Cotto will not try to compete against Mayweather for the May 2 date because he knows it would be a stupid decision and Cotto is not stupid. Unfortunately, you cannot say the same thing about Alvarez.

I think it's fair to say that Floyd has a history of contradicting himself. He might be using the same tactic that Arum has used for years now when he pretended that the Mayweather fight was always his "Plan A", all the while he had Manny's real "Plan A" opponent not named Floyd signed and ready. I don't believe Floyd when he says that Khan holds no weight. I think he wants the Pacquiao fight, but if he gets the chance to have the May date, i really doubt he'll make Manny his "Plan A" opponent. I think he'll take the Khan fight in a heartbeat if he gets the May date.The NSAC needs to figure out a way to reserves the date for the mega fight only, so that way neither side can't bluff their way into making other fights that we don't want. Arum is a proven liar. Floyd is a walking contrasiction. Someone else needs to step in and force both sides to make the fight happen.

Because HBO would have a stake in the fight seeing as how Pacquiao is one of their fighters and they have a co-distribution agreement with Showtime. It's not rocket science, people.
