What yall think, does Pacquiao need to avenge his devestating knocked-out cold loss to Marquez before he can truly be eligible for a Mayweather fight?
People say fighters like Khan needed to avenge their losses but Khan was never knocked out cold like that, he was back on his feet getting ready to fight.
I don't know where I stand on this one, Pacquiao is obviously a legend in his own right so different rules could apply to him. Tough one to call really.

If you used this logic on everyone else we wouldn't see hardly any of the great fights in the history of the sport. Doesn't matter though. These guys (TOGETHER through their whole camps) have not and probably will not ever come to terms within a meaningful amount of time.
No, because he beat him 3 times already, he shouldn't have given JMM so many chances to beat him.
But many people get to fight Floyd without proving they can beat JMM. Maidana would probably lose to JMM as would Ortiz, Guerrero.
So it would be just another excuse to avoid Pac. JMM can beat Pac, don't mean Floyd can, Floyd cant get credit for JMMs win. Floyd showed he can beat a bloated JMM while coming in over the limit, so what? Doesn't mean he doesn't have to fight Pac. If he avoids the Pac fight, its got nothing to do with Pac losing to JMM.
very well said...
i dont feel going over the other posts here as you have hit the nail squarely on the head...
cheers!

that 4 point swing was too much to recover and seems so crucial on the decision.. i got MAB eking a decision on that one.
Yea it was huge. It also kind of effected the outcome of that round and remaining rounds too. Close fight either way. Absurd wide scores.
Marquez/Barrerra is one of my all-time favorite fights, two technical fighters who were willing to slug it out. Saying that Barrera was clearly done after the Pacquiao beating. There's no way I would have preferred he fight Barrera over guys like Floyd and Manny.
Yea, it was an excellent fight, loved it. I just wanted a rematch, that's all. Still think he had something left. PAC just had his number stylistically. But against other guys, no one dominated him. In the Khan fight, I think the cut/headbutt was the major factor so I don't care what happened rd. 2-5.
JMM had 3 fights with PAC by that time. Barrera deserved one even if it was 4 or 5 years after. I understand JMM passing on it because Barrera wasn't relevant. And obviously PAC is the $$$ fight. But I think given the name, the controversy in the 1st fight... a rematch needed to happen... Oh well.
Floyd fought plenty of fighters that had losses and even KOs .... some quit, some were knocked down several times the fight before, some looked like they didn't belong at WW, some never fought there either ....
The bar is not set high for Floyd unless its Manny ...
He did have a couple of wins I think after Khan, and he would've gotten up for a fight with with JMM.
It's just a shame a rematch never happened. In the back of my mind, I really wanted to see it. So maybe I'm just a bit bitter.
JMM-Barrera was a great fight and was tough to call. Those wide scores and the missed knockdown was ridiculous. I can see the fight going to JMM, but could've went either way especially if the knockdown was counted and the penalty didn't happen. That round was scored 10-8 JMM when it could've been 10-8, or 10-9 Barrera

His last relevant fight was in 09' against Khan, and you're talking about a rematch in 2012 :lol1: If he really wanted a rematch so bad why take the Pacquiao fight? Marquez moved on to be linear champ at lightweight and moving up to fight Mayweather.

Barrera did ask JMM for a rematch before sometime between 2011-2012 ...and before PAC-JMM4. Ok, Barrera wasn't that relevant at this stage, but JMM IMO should've granted that rematch IMO.
I got my facts right.

There was no rematch with Barrera simply because Pacquiao offered Barrera a fight you noob. Obviously Barrera took the more lucrative Pacquiao fight, he took a beating and that was the last we saw of Barrera at the elite level while Marquez decided to move up in weight.

None of Floyd's other opponents had to avenge a loss, but Pacquiao is supposed to avenge his against a guy he's 2-1-1 against and who refuses to rematch.
Be serious.
