While the ass kicking we just witnessed carried some reminiscence of elder abuse, it doesn't shy away from the fact that Hopkins underestimated a fighter who isn't just a big puncher, many of you guys believing the same. He doesn't load up on his punches like most people think, and his power skillfully combines his technique, speed and heavy hands.
Kovalev is the real King of 175 and will hopefully get the respect he deserves for giving an ATG the beating of his life.

you can see his daughter in the crowd crying :firedevil
Kovalev did a great job and clearly won every round but Hopkins In my opinion cannot receive enough praise for taking a fight with a young big puching killer like Kovalev, especially being that Hopkins Is 49 years old.
It's time for Hopkins to retire, he has done It all and then some. Kovalev on the other hand needs to keep doing what he Is doing, I can't see anyone taking his 0 anytime soon.
I agree with this and this thread wasn't actually meant for bashing Hopkins. A fighter I don't like personally but he certainly has his credentials.
I also thought Hopkins would win a decision, but Kovalev is the real deal and an interesting fighter, more than a Krusher. He is also one of these guys with a deep amateur background and he has benefited greatly from this in the pro ranks. He is a patient stalker of his victims, doesn't rush or get overly aggressive - a trait of the well schooled amateur. He reminds me of GGG in some ways.
Who will beat Kovalev now, when the smart boxer Hopkins couldn't. I don't see any at all, if he keeps the steam, avoids injury/ other unexpected set backs.
It was crazy to me how some were even talking about BHOP beating kovalev like he did pavlik.
Kovalev is a scary combination of punching power and skill like I've been saying. It's going to take a special fighter to overcome and beat this monster.
True it might take a special fighter to beat him, but I am still a bit concerned about his chin and balance. Hopkins stung him and it showed. Someone like Pascal or Stevenson, who are quick and heavy handed might be able to get past that jab and get lucky early on. However he is still a work in progress and has a great trainer

bhop is a bum, who didnt win a single round.
Kovalev is a real fighter champion, not these water down guys hopkins is used to beating and thats the reason hopkins has absolutely no success against him not winning a single round.

I think once Hopkins got in the ring he felt Kovalev's presence. He was flinching at every feint. And correct Kovalev never loads up on his punches. That's what makes him so scary. He's hurting guys with punches where he's not even putting any "mustard" on them.
I was thinking the exact same thing. Compared to a lot of guys in the division today he seems to be the trickiest to beat. The boxnation commentators also noted how his deceptive reach is very useful in firing off straight shots
