A defensive boxer can't expect to become a successful all-out brawler by joining Robert Garcia's stable. A brawler can't become a defensive genius by joining Mayweather Sr, Hunter, or become the second coming of Rigondeaux if they hire Jorge Rubio. This is what fans/fighters alike are all thinking. You hire Floyd Sr, you learn all the tricks Mayweathr Jr has. You hire Hunter, you become the next Andre Ward, you hire Nacho, you become an explosive counterpunching machine like Marquez.
Obviously, Angulo has to work with trainers like Garcia, Roach, or Abel Sanchez. Trainers that are used to working with more offensively oriented fighters. Ricky Hatton working with Mayweather Sr was comedy, it was disastrous.
Awesome post man!
Maidana joining Garcia is a good example of a powerful brawler becoming even better at his style because he joined a trainer/stable that specializes in his style, barring Mikey Garcia.
I think another disaster waiting to happen is Khan and Hunter, because Khan has too much brawling in him. He's a boxer for a few rounds but once you clip him he becomes a brawler. There will be nothing Hunter could do to help him. Khan needs to join Robert Garcia or go back to Roach. Fighters like Miguel Vazquez, Carlos Molina could use a guy like Hunter.
I don't think Hunter is that good of trainer. I don't see his fighters doing that well on average other than Ward of course. Ward may be so talented he makes a trainer look good. Angulo and Khan seemed worse since they went with Hunter.
