Showtime has by far had their worst year in boxing for as far back as I can remember. They've always been the B side to HBO (with the exception of 2013), but this year the gap has grown even more. Not only have we been fed tune up fights all year long by every name fighter, but there are no significant fights signed for the rest of the calendar year. The Hernandez-Kameda fight which is the only fight Sho has lined up would just be an off-air undercard bout on an HBO card. You would think Sho would have plenty of money left for cards considering they really haven't had any marquee match ups with their star fighters all year. Porter-Brook was their best match up and the only fight that wasn't considered a tune up all year. Floyd fought 2 fights with Maidana, neither of which were wanted by several fans that wanted to see him face Porter or Thurman. Canelo stepped up against Lara but that was on PPV, along with his rebound fight with Angulo. Canelo & Porter fought the toughest opposition out of all of Sho's name fighters & now Canelo has gone to HBO. The gap between HBO & Showtime has never seemed bigger. HBO is closing the year strongly with Hopkins-Kovalev, Crawford-Beltran & Bradley-Chavez while Showtime is looking to be out of money on the heels of their worst year of content. How did this happen?
I used to like Sho, back when they used to have competitive fights between up and comers ,contenders and champions alike.Sure, they didn't have the biggest names but they put on great fights for real boxing fans. Now all we get are garbage mismatches between the big names and the rod salka's of the world ,from undercard to main event. Why does Danny Garcia need two tune ups for a potential fight with Lamont Peterson? that's the same guy who got ktfo by Mathysse!
Just because Peterson was stopped by Matthysse doesn't mean Peterson can't beat Garcia. Styles make fights. Herrera was beat my Mayfield, Dulorme beat Mayfield. I guess Dulorme beats Garcia by your logic.
Showtime hasn't even announced their end of the year cards. There is already talks of Andrade/Jermell Charlo and that would take big ole dumps on bradley/chaves. Let's wait for Khan and Danny's next opponents. Sho can easily outdo HBO don't get it twisted.
See I TOLD YOU guys to wait and you didn't listen.
Khan vs Alexander. Andrade vs Charlo. Thurman vs Bundu.
Now i made you look stupid OP.

Richard Schaefer happened too showtime. it's no coincidence that as soon as the rumors about him leaving gbp started, the bad matchups started. Schaefer was making the fights that needed too be made at gbp and showtime. haymon was loyal too Schaefer, not Oscar and showtime. that is why he wont match his fighters up anymore under gbp banner. it's not that Oscar doesn't wanna make the fights. it's that al haymon wont let him because his loyalty lies with Schaefer.
Garcia/matthysse
Peterson/matthysse
broner/malignaggi
porter/alexander
maidana/broner
these are all haymon fighters vs haymon fighters while Schaefer was running gbp.
Showtime got pimped hard by haymon..
Showtime tried to overtake hbo by signing Floyd away and build up new stars around him..
Canelo, broner, Danny, etc were all getting exposure by always being in the discussion of possible Floyd opponents,,
But now it looks like Floyd will get his money, and haymon is moving guys to nbc sports, leaving showtime with very little..
Showtime probably didn't mind the soft matchmaking if it paid off in 2015-16 with Garcia, broner, etc all landing big fights, but with them leaving, showtime has just wasted a year of resources promoting these guys only for them to leave before they can capitalize
I think Richard Schaefer had something to do with this. I think him leaving GBP and letting Oscar negotiate with Al Haymon is when it all went down hill from there, with awful tune ups. I know what Schaefer was doing was wrong but it's not like Oscar is signing any Al Haymon fighters these days, he's doing the same thing Schaefer was doing but at least Schaefer gets Haymon to put his fighters in the ring against each other. Oscar gets his company tune ups and that's why Showtime sucks now. Showtime, Al Haymon, & Schaefer had the network on fire, but Hoya had other plans.

Al Haymon happened. :beerchug:
Shobox cards sucked this year though. JMM-Alvarado was also a great fight. If we are including PPV Cotto-Martinez, Bradley-Pacman 2 were also good scraps. HBO is outperforming Sho & the bad thing is Sho actually has most of the talent. Especially at WW. It does no good to have all the talent if you can't get them in the ring against each other though.
But we aren't counting PPVs; if we were I'd imagine that Mayweather-Maidana 1 and Alvarez-Angulo would earn some mention as good cards. Heck, if we're looking at the ShoBox cards, I'd imagine that you'd consider the Love-Medina and and Errol Spence Jr cards were really good scraps too.
Marquez-Alvarado and Golovkin in one-sided beatings against over-matched opponents; Hopkins-Kovalev is a good payoff for the Kovalev build-up, but that's the cream of what HBO has been able to deliver this year, with no other major showdowns left in the que for HBO, unless you count Bradley-Chaves being a fight that folks are looking forward to.
No Cotto, no Alvarez, no Chavez Jr, no Ward, etc.
This has been an awful year for Showtime. They regressed so much from last year even though they sport such a deep talent pool. Espinoza has dropped the ball big time.
competitive fights with name fighters fighting other name fighters. Gamboa-Crawford, Donaire-Walters, Hopkins-Kovalev & seeing Triple G literally destroy everyone thats put in front of him for me.
Gamboa-Crawford was Boxing After Dark, just to be clear.
Beyond that, after being posed with a pretty basic question and according to your own reasoning, the HBO subscriber in 2014 should be happy for a fight that, almost literally, just happened, a fight that is still three weeks away from happening, and Golovkin beating on opponents in "10 to 1" - type fights. lol
Khan-Alexander/Guerrero & Garcia-Peterson would outdo Bradley-Chavez. The problem is we know those fights aren't going to happen. Bradley-Chavez should be a nice style match up. Khan-tune up and Garcia-tune up seem more likely. Khan should get one fight in December but the chances of it being somebody with a pulse look pretty slim. Same with Thurman's next fight.
Amir Khan and Danny Garcia are both being positioned as options for the May fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr; fighting "no-pulse" opponents does nothing for either guy.
Thurman may get a softer touch, but he still ends up with a decent opponent (my guess is that Josesito Lopez is a real possibility)
I don't know what to say. Showtime has always been the best boxing network stateside. Everything went down hill after they acquired Floyd. Showbox was the greatest boxing series imo. Tis a damn shame.
Of the 9 cards put on for Showtime Championship Boxing, you seem to discount the PPV re-airs and the ShoBox cards, you seem to have derived a certain level of enjoyment from at least 6 of the cards.
How many of the HBO Championship Boxing cards fell into that realm, discounting the PPV re-airs and the B.A.D. cards?

Piss poor year. Their main events on their main channel have been:
Lamont Peterson vs. Dierry Jean
Danny Garcia vs. Mauricio Herrera
Bernard Hopkins vs. Beibut Shumenov
Keith Thurman vs. Julio Diaz
Adonis Stevenson vs. Andrzej Fonfara
Robert Guerrero vs. Yoshihiro Kamegai
Danny Garcia vs. Rod Salka
Shawn Porter vs. Kell Brook
Adrien Broner vs. Emmanuel Taylor
9 cards and I count 2 main events I looked forwarded to; Hopkins-Shumenov and Porter-Brook.
4 main events turned out to be good fights; Garcia-Herrera, Stevenson-Fonfara, Guerrero-Kamegai, Broner-Taylor.

HBO Boxing schedule - 2014: http://www.hbo.com/boxing/fights#/boxing/fights/2014.html
SHO Boxing schedule - 2014: http://www.sho.com/sho/sports/fights
And that's without counting the ShoBox cards that have been put on this year; another ten fight cards or so. By the end of 2014, a SHO channel subscriber would've had the opportunity to watch nearly 30 fight cards, among which are four PPV re-airs, and see many of the rising stars in the sport.
What has HBO delivered for their fight fan?

The fact is that at this moment "diego chaves" is a D+ level fighter. Timmy should be fighting Porter, Brook, Khan, Thurman. It's a shame he is signed with Top rank. We have no idea who Khan and Danny are fighting next, all i said is Sho can easily outdo bradley/chaves if they match Swift and Amir with good opponents, wich i'm sure will happen. I think Danny is figting Peterson or a 147 fighter, Khan prob going against Devon or The Ghost. There is also Broner and Matthysse who have no opponents yet... Sho can close out the year with a bang

I'll believe it when I see it as far as getting Andrade-Charlo. As for Danny & Khan, seeing them in tune ups still would not be on the level of Bradley-Chaves. Chaves likely KO's whatever fighters will be on the other side of the ring with Khan/Danny. I've heard Guerrero-Khan rumors as well but nothing has materialized. We are late into October already

It's only October, dude. SHO has a pretty good November 1, with Kameda and Fonfora on a bill.
Even with that, Showtime is likely to still have another 4 shows or so to close out the year with; Khan is supposed to have a meaningful fight this year, Thurman is supposed to fight again this year, and the Stiverne/Wilder fight might end up on Showtime as well, in addition to other fights.
Hopkins-Kovalev is definitely a big show, but no one is beating down the doors for Crawford-Beltran or Bradley-Chaves. Beyond that, HBO is unlikely to add many shows, if any, to even the rumored ones (Cotto and Alvarez aren't fighting anyone this year, and Chavez Jr isn't going to fight either).
How is Showtime "out of money"?
Stopped reading at "it's only October" :lol1:
Yes we have 2 months to go! Go Showtime :puke:
