:werd: This sh1t is reminding me of UFC now. The fighter doesn't get the benefit of the doubt anymore. The moment the fighter is in trouble and not defending himself the fight get stopped? :dunno:
Would Tim Bradley VS Provo get stopped today?

For us diehards-yes, stoppages have been bad and often too quick. But we may need to accept this if we want boxing to expand on TV, especially main networks and espn.
Boxing on TV changed after doo ku kim (sp?). No major network wants that on the air. So even though we want more Gatti/Wards and Castillo/Corrales I think there is pressure on commissions to have ref's stop fights early to make sure we don't have a tragedy on live TV,

Yes, that's in fact exactly when you should stop a fight no matter what: when the boxer is no longer defending himself. ALWAYS stop a fight the second a boxer isnt defending himself any more.
As one commentator said one time, id rather see a fight stopped a second too early than a second too late. Anyone that doesnt agree with that never laced up a pair of gloves.
Look at the latest Cuellar vs Lopez KO, in just one second as Lopez was falling, cuellar landed four more punches on a guy that was KO.
better still to actually do your job right though.
imagine if pac marquez had been stopped in round 1 after that 3rd knock down?
I agree , its all on the ref , but it is a fine line when one extra blow can kill somebody , Ive seen a lot of fights where rounds of punishment puts a fighter into a position he can really be hurt , its a tough one .
Antonio demarco - john Molina was a prime example of this, Molina was caught cold and went into a shell more than being hurt to the point he should have been pulled out. He definitly could have carried on and we could of had a great fight on our hands rather than the up satisfying end we actually got.
Referees should finish the count and if the fighter makes it up, the ref should have them take a step forward. Now days there are way too many fights that the referee waves it off after a knockdown without a count.
But yes, too many referees are stopping fights at the first chance they get.
And no one questions their bad calls because someone will pull out the old cliché, "better too early than too late" which holds some truth but whatever happened to stopping fights at the right time rather than early or late.
Better one to many quick stoppages than one more death .

I think the standing eight count needs to be a rule used in every fight. A lot of potentially great fights have stopped way to early.
Refs seem to be searching for any and ever reason to stop fights these days.
One of the things that annoys me most is when a ref is counting out a downed boxer and doesn't even complete the 10 count when the guy isn't lights out. At least let the guy get up and step in post holes when the ref tells the fighter to walk towards him after he gets up before calling the fight.
Stupid refs who immediately break fighters when theyre still fighting inside are also ruining the sport. I remember at castillo-mayweather 1 when the ref said "calm down", theyre in the middle of the fight and youre telling them to calm down. Hahaha
