I know people say Jines dropping down to heavyweight is why he was KOd, I beg to differ. I just think Roy was past him prime and Tarvers style gave him trouble..
Tarver vs Jones 1, jones won a tough fight where he looked human. Then knocked out cold in the rematch..
Maidana gave Floyd all he can handle in their first fight...
Maidana hits hard and believe can he can hurt Floyd. Floyd looked weak, stationary and not as fast vs Maidana in his previous fights vs Canelo and Guerrero..
Can floyd be getting old and Maidana pull off the upset.. That chopping down punch did seem to give broner and Floyd's shoulder roll problems.. More so broner but you can tell Floyd was respecting it and watching out for it.
Garcia should be practicing heavily all camp at cutting the ring off. Making Floyd worry about defense more so than offense and take rounds that way.. Floyd's legs didnt look great..
Floyd likely will win, I just thought the comparison was interesting..
Jones took years off his career and health by unnaturally dropping 20 pounds of muscle and his face entering the ring in the first fight was gaunt and his skin had a tint of gray. It was obvious he was too confident in his ability to readjust to 175 after going up to 199. Muscles atrophy and aging accelerates. The damage was done entering the 2nd fight. I'm not seeing the comparison and there is more evidence to support that a boxer more often than not makes adjustments and wins by a wider margin. But that does not mean Maidana could not win, just unlikely in my opinion.
On the flip side, if Mayweather is caught flush, it could happen. And what if Maidana comes in in better shape than before or with a better plan, anything is possible. Maybe the years catch up with Floyd, it happens to them all. If Maidana shocks the world, the balance of Boxing power would shift like an earthquake over night. It is hard to imagine seeing a graphic picture of Mayweather being counted out or stopped while bent over in the corner but that outcome is not impossible.
But Mayweather, if nothing more, trains like a demon possessed and few fighters over the last 20 years have had that kind of focus. When Mayweather trains, the energy, the confidence, the spark, the intensity is otherworldly. He is in his own universe and it shows. That is hard to beat until the body slows down and cant do that at a fever pitch anymore. That time may come, or may not come before he retires. If he does retire, he needs to stay retired regardless of who challenges him. Some day even the folks who don't like him will probably pick him over future champs and point out the reasons why those future champs couldn't hold a candle to him. Dislike many things he says and does but he is one brilliant fighter in the ring.

Biggest misconception in boxing. Floyd is all reflex. Floyd 2-3 years ago would make Maidana look like he did Marquez only worse. And he constantly pulls straight back.
Excellent point. People act like Floyd doesn't use his reflexes...EVERY ATHLETE DOES.
Hell Pernell Whitaker was arguably the greatest defensive fighter of the past 50 years and guess what? Once his reflexes went, he started getting tagged. Same with Roy Jones. And it'll be the same with Floyd Mayweather.
Unless Marcos transforms into a lankey and rangey southpaw, then no comparison.
BTW-Roy was limited on defense and relied on reflex and movement...very different than Floyd who is light years more technically sound than Roy.

Still speaks volumes that Floyd even struggled with a guy like Maidana in the first place. They aren't even in the same league and yet Chino won about 5 rounds.
I'm not saying Maidana is going to win, but I am saying Floyd is showing signs he's past his best days.
Style wise a good pressure fighter can trouble Floyd unlike in the past. Maidana is strong and can punch. He's also the bigger fighter and at the very least can challenge Floyd physically. It wasn't the recipe when Floyd was in his prime but as Floyd gets older it's that kind of fighter that can knock Floyd off.
As a skilled fighter, who depends on speed and reflexes, age, an upset can always be expected. Maidana hits very hard, and it would not surprise me to see him drop Floyd. But what many fail to realize, Floyd is a beast in the ring and has a lot of pride. I can honestly say that I'm not his biggest fan, but I love this sport and will admit that Floyd is one of the most highly skilled and competitive fighters to lace them up. If floyd decides to open up on Maidana, it will be an easy night for him. I think he showed him too much respect the 1st fight. But if he fights cautiously and focuses too much on defending, then he's in for a long night.
Floyd can not afford to wait on countering Maidana. He has to get aggressive offensively and take the fight to him. He needs to stay consistent with the jab and throw combos. He needs to bang his body often. This will force Maidana to make adjustments and think. I don't think those are his strong points in the ring. But if Floyd fights the same fight as last time, I can definitely see him getting caught with something big from Maidana.
It clearly wasn't that easy. He won 4 straight, 3 by ko. One of them being the most hyped guy in the sport..
The easy to see improvements with Garcia. Maidana is who he is, but I would certainly call him a skilled fighter now. He execute to many skilled tactics, thinks in the ring, and sets up too many shots up to simply be called crude.
Ya, he's awkward and doesn't look the part. That means nothing. It's what you do, not how you look doing it.
Excellent post. Well said.
Floyd is like Hopkins, and has way better fundamentals than Roy.. Floyd will still be able to adapt and win even though he is past his prime.. I think he outpoints Maidana in a fight similar to the first, except Floyd will start alittle faster

If Maidana pulls off the upset it's because of skill, will, and experience against Floyd, Floyd hasn't declined at all, don't discredit Marcos before the fight happens. That said, this will absolutely be a Tarver/Jones II for other reasons.
Chino Maidana is the better natural fighter of the two. Mayweather is a hyped up champion. He really isn't all that great. Maidana is gonna expose him more in a couple of weeks.
What exactly do you mean by better natural fighter?
Because he's a crude fighter. Not very skilled. Very sloppy, very amateurish at times. Sure you can say he's gotten a bit better but he's a big overachiever. He was bordering on being irrelevant after he lost to Devon Alexander. Exposes Broner and boom, gets a Mayweather shot. Really quite remarkable that he made it to this stage.

Floyd's age has definitely caught up to him (possibly for a while now) so one thing I am certain is that even if he does beat Maidana, it still won't be as easy as some people expect.

Chino is not the better natural fighter, floyd already proved that in the first fight..smdh
The comparison is not even close. At the end of the first fight, Roy didn't have an answer for Tarver. He pretty much laid on the ropes and waited for the bell to ring. Mayweather was able to figure Maidana out and out boxed him. Unless Mayweather has a major lapse in concentration I don't see it happening. Jones got caught cold. I don't see Mayweather getting caught cold.

Why do people insist chino is a lay down? Struggled with a guy "like" maidana? He gives everybody problems. Maidana has definitely got better since his move to welterweight and only had 3 losses before floyd.
