Hbo may be bringing us Algiery vs Pac, but showtime has made it their business to blatantly set up mismatches Salsa was just the tip of the iceberg, it seems like its going to be their modus operandi for a while.
It is sad to see HBO throwing nickles around like manhole covers they are still doing pretty good all things considered but that used to not be enough for HBO.
That is poor planning though HBO is a well financed operation there is no reason they should be running out of cash even if something pops up they have to spend on. I can't even buy that Kovalev-Hopkin broke them because they intended on making Kovalev-Stevenson which was going to be pricey. It is not like HBO went all out when they found out they lost out on that fight.
I just hope HBO starts adding a little to their boxing budget instead of dropping it~
How are they broke when these fighters haven't fought on regular HBO this year?
Chavez Jr
Ward
Cotto
Those are supposed to be the guys that drain the budget.
Also Mikey and GGG have only fought once, they must have slashed the budget again. All this talk about SHO losing money but it's HBO going on vacation. Wouldn't be surprised if they start doing like FNFs and just go off the air after August next year.
Cotto
it sucks for me too, in canada my cable provider only has "HBO Delay" which delays the boxing matches 2 hours because of the cry baby aristocrats and liberals complaining that they dont want to have to stay up late on a saturday night to watch their re run television shows
Yeah, I think Marquez-Alvarado and Crawford-Gamboa are the two highest rated fights this year and they both did around 1.3 million. It's really been a down year for both networks, but at least the November lineup looks really promising for HBO. Crawford-Beltran and Hopkins-Kovalev should do really good numbers and are good fights on paper
Showtime can EASILY counter Crawford-Beltran and Hopkins-Kovalev with Khan-Guerrero and Garcia-Peterson.
No. Showtime does not only do Rod Salka kind of fights. Let's not forget the biggest boxing event of all time was a Showtime production. Canelo/Mayweather. Enough said.
In case you haven't noticed or for those that is NEW to the Sport of boxing, Boxing Schedule usually slows down a bit once American Football Seasons get started. It is hard to compete with Saturday Night College Football especially when it is TOP COLLEGE TEAMS going head to head
HBO is just a better Platform and a better Presentation overall for some reason, maybe because most are just COMFORTABLE with with HBO for all these years
Showtime play by play team is solid, Brian Kenny is a host for a boxing event and All Access is good especially the finally Epilogue but it is something about HBO! Regardless of how annoying Lampley and Kellerman can be

A similar thing happened last year but not as bad. HBO finished the year off strong doe
And if the Cotto fight is on PPV, I think hes gonna fight Bradley. Thats the only fight that makes it PPV worthy
And we're still in the 3rd quarter of 2014. HBO rallied in the last quarter of last year producing fights every week, which SHO wasn't able to answer. And I expect them to do it again before the end of the year.
Showtime should be murdering HBO with the number of fighters they have. But it's not happening.
No they didn't. Maidana v Broner wasn't on HBO.
You, JoeMan and a host of others yapping about lost money have no idea what is really going on. If dan is right, HBO has exhausted all of their budget. Likely what happened is they didn't plan on B hop/Kov and had to use resources for that fight.
those are 2013 numbers. its 2014.

The blog says, "Now, you can argue that Showtime is more about quantity than quality..."
Hehe... yet the chart shows HBO still beat them by a wide margin on the quantity aspect last year. I don't know what these people are talking about. Showtime is still playing catch up despite their voluminous fighters in their stable.

At least they're not losing money unlike SHO. They stay on budget and still get good ratings.
Schaefer and Haymon took all their fighters to SHO, fighters that HBO built up. You gotta be a moron to expect HBO do miracles with that kind of disadvantage.
The bigger joke is, despite of the advantage SHO have, they failed to make fights fans expected them to make. All they wanna do are Salka types of fights. It became clear that Haymon fighters will not fight each other.
And HBO still murdered them last year. And we all know that SHO's rep is at an all time low right now. They have become a JOKE network.
