Eye Gouging is a flagrant foul and should not be tolerated.
Even though with these new gloves its hard to do, the repeated attempt by Chaves was disgusting. I think this DQ was justified.
What do you guys think?
I noticed Chaves did it in 4 occasions during fight but could only find video for 1 occasion with good closeup.
i am a little upset after read all the posts here. For sure i saw another fight, because in my mind, was rios the one who started with the dirty tactics, with plenty of headbuts when he was near chaves.
I can't remember a single fight when a point was deducted for clinch, minor in the third round in the very first one.
On the contrary, some are right about chaves reacted poorly to the provocations of rios, who really started to play dirty, and put the dirty of his own.
But again, is was rios who started with headbuts when close to chaves. The later reacted poorly, that's right, but you can´t deny that rios started
At last, to all the purist here -who only see what they want-, i like to know what do you think about the instructions of rios corner, to continue to comit fouls, when referi cant see?
bwahahahah
what i seen was rios right off the bat being a bad boy. then chavez coming right back being even a badder boy. so much so that it made rios stop *****ing around.
someone finaly made rios be good. butt the cost was high.
Exactly. Rios was using his head as often as his fists. :lol1:
If you're going that way in a fight, then deal with it when the other guy replies with his own tactics.
Like the first time Rios tackled and threw chaves, the second time Chaves took him down with him. If you're fighting rough and dirty then dont bch about it and just get it on.
Rios knew he was losing that fight, TR would not let his career end there.
Not sure what people "think" their seeing but Chaves was lacing and raking the eyes every time he got his gloves underneath. He waited till the ref got in close then as they separated he raked!
If anyone here thinks he didn't deserve to be DQ's you don't know the very basic rules this DQ blatantly showed. He did it on purpose and the "throw down" was definitely on purpose too.
As I said before Chaves could have won on his own skill level but he choice to be a punk and he got what punk azz *****es get. He's lucky he didn't get his azz whipped in the back room. If I where in Rios's corner that ***** is going to the ER! I hate **** like two handed holding and then throwing in some **** on the breaks. That doesn't play well with me! Ray.
Have to agree with you Ray and not only that, the people here who are saying "thumbless glove" don't know what they are talking about.
Gloves have thumbs obviously, they are just attached, not like the old days where they were unattached. You can still get a thumb in the eye, as I have a few times in sparring.
It's very painful and can cause serious damage. Chaves was clearly trying to get his glove in Rios' eye, that with the extensive holding IMO deserved the DQ once I took a second look at the fight.
Say what you want about Rios, but the man comes to fight. He was hit low by Peterson repeatedly and never complained once. He's not one to BS and pu55yfoot around.
Chaves lost my respect.
Rios butted while being clinched excessively imo. If Chaves wasnt holding on for dear life round after round, Rios head wouldnt of been in his face.
Dont know about Ward. Did he foul and get DQ'd?
Floyd beat Maidana. He wasnt DQ'd for clinching and fouling.
1: Chaves did clinch but there was a lot of action going on therefore talk of it being excessive is somewhat unwarranted
2: When a fighter plows forward into you then clinching is often a wise thing to do
3: Being clinched does not provide a licence to head butt
So you mean Ward should had his record reversed? Floyd don't deserve a rematch vs Maidana?
Rios, was head-butting on purpose too. The fight was dirty and it was already the 9th round. Rios couldnt handled Chavez taking his punches and landing at will.
Rematch is justify because Chavez was tapping dat ass

andre ward generally keeps a hand free and works inside. he's one of the better inside fighters in boxing. chavez was trying to tie rios up and get the ref to break them. it's different from what ward does.
i had a feeling a clueless spectator would come up with something like this. it proves only that you don't know much about boxing.
To grab hold with one hand is to initiate a clinch.
Chaves was not wearing a towel, he was wearing a thumbless boxing glove.
The most Chaves did was rub Rios's face with the glove but Team Garcia were on a mission to get Chaves DQ'd as soon as he started clinching because they knew Rios couldn't beat him on the outside just as Chaves couldn't beat Rios on the inside.
boxing gloves are soft material, you can rake an eye, use your imagination for a second if you've never worn gloves

Cant post gifs from my phone but applause.
Chaves clinched excessively, and resorted to rubbing Rios in the face everal times.
I dont think it was Garcia pushing for the DQ. They just wanted a fair fight.
You cant call for a DQ if the opponent has done nothing wrong.
Chaves doesnt deserve a rematch.
He obviously couldnt handle Rios.
A fighter doesnt get rewarded with a rematch when they clinch excessively and foul on the inside. Those are signs of not being able to cope with Rios pressure.

I thought it was interesting when Maidana was asked about the fight and his response was exactly this, Chaves can't handle pressure. Which is why he resorted to holding and ddt's.

I say immediate rematch.
Agreed! People do worst thing, like low blows, headbutts excesive clinches etc!
Chaves doesnt deserve a rematch.

but you can rake the eyes and push the eyes in.
Do this get a towel and put it over your thumb and try your hardest to push your eye in? tell me what happens.

This is stupid, you can't gouge someone with boxing gloves on.
This is an eye gouge:

i've also never seen a fighter so blatantly clinching a man when he got inside. some holding should be permitted, and a hurt fighter should always be allowed to clinch, but it's freaking ridiculous to be outboxing a guy and then clinching him every time he gets inside with both arms.
