Seem to be so underrated on here and even at times called running and boring. These traits can be the different in not getting ko'd and scoring a ko. I know most do not understand this at all and will just enter the thread posting rubbish because they can not comment on the topic. But anyone who is diehard or an experienced fighter knows a master of these traits is almost impossible to beat and even harder to even look good against without getting frustrated.
Yes but at the same time there is a big difference between what guys like Marquez, Ward or Lomachenko do compared to Dirrell running to the other side of the ring anytime he wants to avoid a punch. Controlling distance or using angles to put yourself in a safe position without constantly jumping way outside of punching range or running is something many pseudo "purist" fanboys can't differentiate between. Running does exists.
Indeed.......
Tyson is one of most skilled heavyweight of all time. A damn great fighter, well schooled. Patterson pioneered the peek-a-boo style, but Tyson perfected it.
What is your point??Do believe everyone has Tyson's attributes??Cause if not, then everyone can not use Tyson's angles the same way he did..which is what made Tyson so special..
No. I don't. I think the use of angles by a Tyson, a Mayweather and Ali is fantastic and one of the things I look for. When Tyson started believing his hype (after Cus) and started head hunting without working off the jab, without movement (example the Frank Bruno fight) I was hoping it was a stage that he was going through and would come back to his training.
For instance I think that GGG has better D than most give him credit for (even though he is willing to take punches) and look forward to the Geale fight to see if his D carries over to better opponents. For example see the last seconds of the GGG-Stevens fight where parries punches with his shoulders.
My point was (to the original post - not comments that came later) that great movement and angles are not limited to defensive fighters (Mayweather, Hopkins).
Prime Tyson was a master at angles and distance and movement and timing. He wasn't boring. : -)

Imagine if some MMA guy lost and blamed it on "he's a hugger." Or after the Heat lost the NBA finals if LeBron got up and said "They're coward defenders, don't they want to entertain the fans?" Boxing seriously has the most retarded know-nothing fans of any sport on the planet.
I made this thread to talk boxing which it seems most know nothing about, all fighters do not have the same durability or er endurance and can not take the same amount of punishment as others or simply choose not too so they do not take as many chances..and what you call boring others find entertaining as some people actually like to see fighters pick other fighters apart..Rigo is far from boring to me and i picked against him in the Donaire fight out of pure ignorance
rigo did very well against nonito...no question about that...that he boxed beautifully..
i could not remember though that rigo ran as one who was hanging on his dear life by running like a chicken candidate for a stew....
i appreciate good boxing skills as ali is my goat...
but i could not appreciate running just to last the 12 rounds distance...
just throw in the towel and be truthful and accept defeat..
not waste the viewers time - watching a marathon on a boxing ring....
That guys, like FLoyd(not lately), Ridondeuax, Ward etc have all those attributes, but instead of trying to use them to entertain, the BS and make fights boring as hell.
And we all know you make this thread thinking about, Dawson, Floyd, Rigo etc

Guys like Manny and Cotto use angles, movement and timing and they Don't stank their fights with boringness, unnecessary movement and non-agresive BS.

All those attributes are great if used to create offense and defense equally. But certain fighters, eg direll, rigondeaux, are way too defense skewed for my likings.
In baseball there's a saying "chicks dig the long ball" Meaning they wanna see big home runs. In boxing ppl wanna see knockouts. If u can do all the stuff u mentioned and still get the ko, u good. But if u just do that, all the time and win decisions, it gets boring sometimes.
Baseball is a sport near to my heart, the thing that made me love Baseball was not the long ball..It was angles, and the brains needed to play the game..Very similar to boxing..Peoples patients and attention spans are the issue nowa days..The sports are exactly the same, the viewers have changed..

You know it's a sad thing when traditional boxing abilities are construed as running in the sport of boxing. Don't get me wrong, I like a KO as much as the next guy but nothing gets me hyped up like a chess match of highly skilled technicians. That is truly a thing to behold, pure skill at the highest level...any two subpar guys can produce a devastating war of attrition and KO, but only a select few can give you the prior arrangement.
Great post fellas,I don't think are to many who appreciate the sweet science anymore..I think peoples attention span has become shorter and people are so short sided they can't see the beauty in a good boxing match..If someone is not KO'd they go on to say the fight is boring..
Larry, can you give an example of a fighter like that?
Orlando Canizales. Seriously. Some of the best angles, movement and timing you'll ever see in a boxing ring. Particularly his angles.
Lomachenko will be very hard to deal with in a few years when he hits his professional mental prime.Yes in the Russell fight his movement and sense of distance was a thing of beauty. He made it impossible for Russel to get off without lunging in

Boxing and entertainment go hand in hand. That being said, you got dudes who can get a crowd in a frenzy, landing some sweet, powerful combinations along the way, and you got your dudes who yeah are hitting and not getting hit, but stink out the joint something awful.
