Who in your opinion would you consider the GOAT analyst in boxing history?
No internet youtube video analysts or your homie from the barbershop. Im talking about people in tv. they can include former boxers as well.
Nobody says you have to like his style Bullrush
I dont care for his style. He's senile, he talks in slow motion, he rarely makes sense. He's the John Madden of Boxing. He doesn't belong on TV anymore.
D'amato was not a boxing analyst, he was a trainer and manager.
Thank you for your kind input.
Trainers are some of the best analysts of the game, and so was Cus.
Cus D'amato, Larry Merchant, Al Bernstein, Manny Steward, Bert Sugar.
Those would be the top guys in my book.
D'amato was not a boxing analyst, he was a trainer and manager.
I don't know about greatest but my two favorites are Larry Merchant (when he can put his bias aside) and Ferdie Pacheco. Loved Pacheco's perspective, knowledge of the game and he even translated Spanish when they spoke it in the corner.
Bert Sugar and Al Bernstein
Always been a fan of Al because he is one of the few guys that at least tries to call things down the middle and he knows his stuff.
I know TS said no youtube but I have to give Props to "Smitty" James Smith, from SecondScout and inThisCornerTV on youtube, one of the first guys I ever seen cover boxing on youtube and he knows his stuff, also his IN THE RING Demonstrations with him stepping in the ring with Boxers and allowing them to break things down for the fans is BRILLIANT STUFF!
damn forgot about ol' Berty, yeah that was pretty damn good but I didn't like how he seemed to favour old timers, who boxed even way before his own time lol as if they were invincible or something.
he also said that shane mosley was "one of the great welterweight jabbers..."
You dismiss Al because he kisses ass but then you mention one of the biggest ass kissers on TV?
With Al, I've seen him on British TV (channel 5) and he clearly hasn't seen the guy he's talking about but cos they are main eventing on the channel or contracted "in house" he praises them. That's what I dislike, he does the same over on US channels.
Lampley kisses ass for fighters who deserve it, he is obviously a massive Pacquiao fan and rightfully so, there was a time when he really liked Tito and Oscar, again rightfully so. What's wrong with that?
I agree, he had Roy Jones ranked like 90th all time while he was still winning A level fights. That's an aboslute joke.
lol that's crazy. His list is also a bit off
I gave examples of favourites......who completely dominated.
Yeah but used them as evidence as Vegas handicappers are "way off"
Trust me, whoever those guys are, they have the best insight and info and ultimately the best opinion in general terms how a fight is gonna go..

even with his over-dramatics, i'll go for larry merchant...
however, it is the chemistry between larry, jim, emmanuel and the off-tangent max that gives me the kick watching these fights on hbo...
Bet on the underdog every time and see how fast you are broke,,
They aren't 100% but they are better than anyone else
