I made a thread a few days ago stating when would we learn regarding the hype brawlers get even tough 9/10 they get exposed by boxers.
So my new discussion is regarding Porter, he will get exposed just like the other brawlers who have entered the ring before him.
Please slow down the hype before you get butt hurt once again..
Thanks
Still early to say how far he can go but I don't see all this "hype".
He's considered a dangerous guy , and that he surely is. Alexander and Malignaggi are two solid wins for any contender/beltholder.
Malignaggi gave Broner a competitive / close fight and went on to beat Judah before being annihilated by Porter.
Alexander is an even better win and also proves that Porter is not a stereotypical brawler/puncher.
Devon fought Maidana, Matthysse and Porter.
Maidana struggled greatly and got beaten.
Matthysse, although deserving the nod in my opinion, was forced to fight Alexander's fight for large stretches, and that's what costed him rounds.
Porter had enough ring smarts to not fall for Alexander's traps/ spoiling. As somebody else said he seems comfortable against boxers.
Thinking of it ...I'd like to see Porter vs Maidana/Matthysse , I'm curious to see if he'd try to box , move in and out (he is the faster of the 3), or if he'd just make it a war.
Tyson- Puncher/Boxer with tons of skills..
Dempsey- Puncher/Boxer with tons of skills..
I don't disagree with you at all but now days you are immediately labeled a "brawler" which is supposed to have a negative connotation even if you have skills and power.
I made a thread on this sort of thing the other day.
So many people on here cannot distinguish between straight up brawlers and pressure fighters who possess some skill.
Doing what he did to Malinaggi takes him out of the hype job category, and I don't take people out of that category unless they deserve it. He isn't just a brawler, but he can bully the sh*t out of an outmatched opponent which is great to see.
To lose a fight does not necessarily mean a boxers been exposed. Its how you lose, who you lose to and under what circumstances..

Ring any bells?

porter isnt merely a brawler at all and i personally think he is at his best when fighting a pure boxer.
i like to call him an anti boxer. he uses his speed and amateur background to make it rough against these technical guys and force them to fight him, at which point his strength and pittbull attitude takes over. this guys is going to be very hard to outbox, with his experience from the amateurs he knows how to make boxers fight.
i feel the best way to beat him is a good puncher who can make him pay for his aggression and catch him coming in, or a good brawler who can beat him in an exchange of physicality. porter struggles when he is forced to be the boxer, but he knows how to make it rough on the stylists.
as far as hype goes i agree though. its getting a bit out of hand, then again he has earned much of it in the ring. i was very surprised when he beat alexander, very surprised in the manner he beat malignaggi too. its too soon to make him a future superstar but you cant sleep on him either.

Since being a member of this site I've noticed a large amount of people say a fighter will be "exposed". If you fight good fighters you just might end up losing. Being undefeated is the exception. The people on this site seem to love being able to say "I told you so". What exactly are you telling us? If porter losses does that mean he's not good anymore. He will be exposed as what exactly?
So what? Jack Dempsey was a "brawler", Mike Tyson was a "brawler". Sometimes there is a guy who just blasts people and it works because the other fighter just doesn't know how to deal with that kind of aggression. Also, it's fun as hell to watch. I really don't care how long his career lasts or what kind of legacy he leaves I just hope we see him for a long time cause he's fun to watch.

By 2015 he will be exposed!!
A lot of boxers have been "exposed" by brawlers too. Not too many fighters, brawlers or any other style, remain undefeated besides Floyd
Losing a boxing match is normal. What is not normal is every fighter going undefeated in their career. We need to stop correlating losing a fight, to be "exposed."
exactly :fing02:

What about all the boxer-runners who get "exposed" by come-forward fighters? you just want to ignore those?

Porter isn't a brawler. He's a very skilled pressure fighter, his boxing ability is very underrated. He's got a good jab, good footwork etc.

He's not a brawler, he just knew Malignaggi was shot and a light puncher to boot. So he just wen in with haymakers. I doubt he uses that strategy on any serious contender.
