All this talk about Martinez being past his prime with no mention of Cotto's past is silly. EVerybody seems to want to forget about a year and a half ago when everybody thought Cotto was finished after Trout beat him?
The man has taken an incredible amount of punishment in his career. Torres, Margarito especially, Pacquiao etc. These were brutal fights that usually end a fighter's career, and he has taken many shots in many other fights too. The fact that he's still here at this level mentally and physically is a credit to him as a certified HOF'er.

'But Martinez from a few years ago...' well who is to say that he would not face plant against prime Cotto who was last seen in 2008? And if he had moved up in weight earlier etc. The possibilities are endless and so are the excuses of Martinez fans.
Martinez is "way past prime" even though he hasn't tasted defeat since PWill back in the days. Yea, ok.
He lost to Martin Murray ffs!
That was over a year and 2 surgeries ago as well.
Martinez is "way past prime" even though he hasn't tasted defeat since PWill back in the days. Yea, ok.
Another Puerto Rican Cotto d!ck rider showing his ignorance. What the hell does beating Pwill in 2009 have to do with Martinez and his prime now.
The guy is 40 years old now and jsut had 3 knee surgeries get that through ur thick head.
That's the problem. We didnt get to see the best of Cotto because Martinez was falling appart from round 1.
I wonder why this was the case? I mean, it did kind of like notice this huge, flush left hook counter over his right jab, but I mean that couldn't have meant a thing despite having the man doing some kind of Argentinian dance right after it connected, it must be some kind of ritual in his home country to do a dance like that after you get hit hard.
Still doesn't change the fact that Martinez stan's were screaming up and down that Cotto would KOed or he would get "destroyed".
Look at my previous posts, I KNEW Cotto would win because Martinez looked shot in his last fight in his homeland. Any Objective boxing fan knew Martinez depended HEAVILY on his mobility which was gone.
Martinez stan's just need to man up and admit they looked past Cotto due to his size and overrated Martinez at this point of his fight career (2010 MARTINEZ is what they HOPED for).
I took the word of Martinez and his team that he was full recouped. I knew that if he was close to the level he was pre-Chavez, he would be too much for Cotto, especially given the size difference.
Sergio's legs were badly diminished and he wasn't jabbing, never led with the left, didn't move his head, no side to side movement.
Cotto looked like he was built in a factory or something, a well-oiled machine. If this is the level that Cotto is going to be competing at from here on out or the next few years at least, he should just take out Golovkin and then end Floyd's career. I don't see anyone out there beating this new Cotto that we saw last night.
No he's not as good as he was in his prime, but in his prime he was so good that even the current deteriorated version of Martinez is a formidable fighter therefor Cotto deserves credit for this victory.
Obviously this is too much to ask for.
That's the problem. We didnt get to see the best of Cotto because Martinez was falling appart from round 1. Obviously Cotto was ready, motivated and in great shape, but he just didnt have a guy in front of him to showcase much. With a boxer like Sergio that uses his leg speed as defense it should have been the bull versus the matador at his 40 year old age. But instead we ended up watching a guy that went into the ring in such a bad shape he apologized to the fans after the fight for his display.

Take nothing away from Cotto at all. Martinez looked, sadly, like a shot fighter last night. Cotto on the other hand, did not look at all like a shot fighter, in fact, he looked just the opposite. He looked like a guy that had been on the slide for the past few years who turned back the clock to look better than the best primed version of himself.
I'm not going to speculate into how that have Cotto hititng on all cylinders like that but while he is fighting on that kind of a level, he should push for a rematch with Floyd because I firmly believe that he would beat Mayweather should he fight like he did last night. His relfexes were like that of a cat and he was punching faster than Mayweather does. Some of the subtle counter shots were thrown in a split second and he landed three punches before Martinez even knew what was happening.
^^ dont bother trying to explain anything to this guy.
Anyway I can rest easy now knowing the level headed objective boxing fans are coming out and the retard Cotto d!cksuckers are showing their true colors.
Como on man, you have to be retard not to see that a guy that literally has his knees buckle under him under the momentum of the punches he throws himself just has no place in a ring. You cant tell us you didnt see that, or that you dont see a difference between this Sergio and the one that fought Chavez jr, let alone the fights before that.

That's not the case. I like watching Cotto and Martinez.
Is that why you said that 'Cotto never comes out on top in his big fights' which is factually wrong on several levels? Tell me more about how you're not a blatant hater. That is, if you can find time out of your schedule of 24/7 crying about Martinez being crippled, you lying worm.
The general consensus prediction was correct:
Healthy Martinez stops Cotto
Cotto stops injured Martinez (check)
It was very binary depending on Martinez's knee surgeries
You just elaborated on what I said about fanboys making build in excuses. I.E. Martinez will kill Cotto! If he doesn't I can make this excuse, doe.
You are getting very emotional and obscene because you love Cotto as a person. Nobody is even bashing Cotto for doing his job. It's disappointment in Martinez for clearly lying, showing up in huge knee braces under XXXL trunks and falling on his ass every time he threw an armpunch.
Fanboys like you have spammed every thread with comments about crippling, made conspiracy theories about how Martinez was cleared for the fight, claimed Martinez wasn't sincere in his post fight interview and discredited Cotto's win in every way possible, and yet I'm the one getting emotional and obscene. LOL.
Have you taken this yet like I told you?:bottle:
The rest of the nonsense you wrote shows how you contradict yourself. Very vapid, fanboy fueled statements while at the same time scolding me for supposedly being too rough on fanboys like you.
Another important factor is Martinez has no defense. He gets hit way too much even by C and D class fighters. The problem is Cotto packed a much bigger punch than the Macklins and the Barkers of the world. Cotto hit him repeatedly while his hands was down below his waist. I'm not saying his knee wasn't a problem but I can only assume when you're a world class boxer and you walk in the ring in the biggest match of your career you're ready to fight.
During all of this, I never actually denied that Martinez wasn't 100%. I just don't think it's anywhere near the amount of decline that butthurt fanboys are claiming.
And no, despite his right knee not being as flexible and explosive as in his prime(obviously since he's pushing 40 now, injuries or not) he was moving well. Martinez was landing his right jab over and over. BUT, after about the 5th time, Cotto countered his jab with a left hook over the top and Martinez chicken danced, never recovered from this moment onwards, just like he said so himself. Funny how the fanboys act like that first left hook never happened. That happened because Cotto is skilled and took advantage of his opponents mistake.
Everything else after that when it comes to his knees is highlighted because he was dazed from punches to the head, like he said so himself.
And you're still ignoring what I'm saying about Martinez' fans making silly claims before the fight and how you're excusing them.

anyone who thought martinez would do anything against a good fighter is dumb because hes plainly has NO DEFENSE , not just last night but in ALL his fights. You just cant win against a good fighter with no defense.

Well I'll let you tell it however you want. No point in trying to reason.

I predicted that a fully recovered Martinez destroys Cotto, I trully believe that and so does anoyne that knows anything about boxing and knew both fighters. At the same time I said it really depended on how bad his injuries where and if he truly had recovered as he claimed. It is pretty clear he had no real recovery from his last fights and is simply uncapable of the wondeful fast movements he once dazzled us with.
He wasn't moving right from the first bell. His right leg was stiff as hell and he couldn't bend it to avoid the left hook.
Predictions are just that. Predictions. No one could know for sure how bad Sergio's knees were. I maintain that a healthy Sergio beats the hell out of Miguel.
I also said Cotto's got good timing and a good jab which would work well. Eventually though, Sergio's speed would tell and he'd land combinations on Cotto because Cotto has poor defence. The reason we didn't see any combinations from Sergio is because his legs wouldn't allow him to follow-up.

I mean thats cause everybody thought there was a chance the surgery and injecting stem cells into his knees might of helped him enough to bring back some old Sergio.

The Martinez from the Murray fight was much better than the version from last night. I didn't expect such a drastic difference.

You seem like you may be a teenager and still in that stage where you have "heros" you passionately defend because you want to grow up to be like them.
When someone comments on the obvious circumstances of a fight and they don't sound romantic enough to you, you turn red in the face, start squealing and throwing things because you believe the opponent is their "hero". That's not the case. I like watching Cotto and Martinez. This was a depressing fight because one fighter was clearly injured.
Do you understand yet? Or will you merely respond with "STOP CRYIN COTTOZ BALLZ R TASTY AND U CANNOT HANDLE HIS MACHISMO... SAY HELLO 2 THUNDER N LIGHTNIN!! UR BOY GOT OWNED!!"?
So true, Martinez was a dead man limping.
Mate, two knee surgeries aren't an excuse. They are the facts of the situation. Sergio hobbling around the ring like a new born giraffe is something that we could see with their own two eyes.
If Sergio had won, do you think I'd be sitting here and saying he beat a prime, 100% Cotto? No. I said in 2010 that this would be a highly paid cherry pick for Sergio.
