Anyone Remember the joke 4 years ago about how the UFC was going to rape boxing in PPV sales if PAC/Floyd didn't happen?
Well if Arum, King and punch-drunk Osvar were still running things that may have been the case, but Schaffer not only stopped Boxing from sinking, he grew the sport bigger than it's ever been in the last 2 decades. Floyd/Canelo broke records w/o pacquiao and Arum. He basically mainstreamed a dying sport and made it relevant in the 21st century. I hope he starts a company of his own and continues the greatness he started with Gbp.
Cuz if u thought a drug abusing, speech slurred, cross dresser was running Golden Boy these last few years you are sadly mistaken.
Schaffer is the reason UFC never surpassed Boxing.
I don't know where you get all these stupid posters.
"Schaefer is the reason UFC never surpassed boxing."
What did he do? You mean he provided all the fights fans want to see?
This sample table doesn't show anything that proves this clown's claim.

Schaefer will land on his feet. He always does.

I agree with Zags on some points....the Banker also got that Swift-Lucas fight made....so he also catered to the hardcore heads!!
I honestly believe that MMA is more popular than boxing in most circles. Comparing boxing PPV numbers to MMA is impossible because the middle aged crowd watches boxing and they pay for the stuff. The average young guy is used to getting all media for free and will hunt down every MMA fight on some internet streaming service/ also isn't as obsessed with seeing something "live". If you look at news coverage MMA gets much more than boxing barring a Mayweather, or Pacuiao outing. MMA merchandising is bigger, and the stars are generally better known unless your comparing them to boxing's few superstars. Half the people I talked to on the street about Mayweather v. Maidana couldn't name Maidana but knew Floyd had a fight. I bet you more people know who Roy Nelson is and he is a middling fighter in a weak division.
Not coming from a place of hate. I love MMA and Boxing but am predominantly a boxing fan.
There are truly NO superstars in MMA/UFC. Besides Jon Jones and Ronda Rousey, none of them guys are superstars.

UFC was never gonna surpass boxing. And Im abig time UFC and MMA fan. boxing is just too great. Even with the corrupt sanctioning bodies, bs robberies and decisions, ducks, cherry picks, etc. boxing still survives and thrives!!!!
Mayweather vs De La Hoya and Hatton was the reason, followed by Pacquiao's jump from 135 to 147 to fight DLH, Hatton, Cotto. So it was actually because of Mayweather and Pacquiao. It still is because of May and Pac, with Mayweather vs Canelo and Pacquiao vs Marquez 4 bringing boxing fans to life again.
The pressure is now on Canelo, Broner, Chavez Jr, to become the next PPV stars.
This ^^^^^^^^
It's Schaefer...not Schaffer. Few people know this but he was also single-handedly responsible for the defeat of the Nazi's during WWll as well as the creation of crotchless panties.
Promoters can only do so much. The main promoters of fighters, and eventually the sport, are ultimately the fighters themselves. Take a guy like Broner, for instance, with his silly antics in his pre/post fights, things that are repugnant to some fans. You don't need a promoter to make fans see a guy like that and see him lose. And his fights are usually entertaining.
And of course the controversies, promotional issues, ducking, personal lives of fighters outside of the ring, add to the interest in the sport.
UFC was never going to take over from boxing, if that were to happen K1 would have had a massive boost years and years ago, which it didn't.
Anyway Schaefer is a knob and his only intention was to protect his cashcow in Mayweather and not make the fights we want.
and matthysse-garcia? schaefer has put on many great fights on showtime and has almost always stacked the undercards.

I'm pretty damn sure fans were asking for Mayweather vs Mosley and Mayweather vs Canelo and both happened. People also said Mayweather would never fight Ortiz because he's into fighting old past prime fighters like Marquez and Mosley, who Pacquiao fought right after Mayweather fought them.
I'm also sure I see in the headlines that Arum will not make Pacquiao vs Garcia if Haymon is involved, and has never wanted to work with Haymon in the first place.

it was oscar who recruited canelo, not shaefer, televisa made him a star, not schaffer, floyd fighting anybody else other than canelo doesnt get close to those numbers... without that fight they have a profit issue...
