The highest grossing PPV this year was Rousey vs McMann. It sold 340k. Yes you read that right a womens fight was the UFC's highest selling PPV this year. Also McMann made 15 thousand dollars to headline the biggest PPV the UFC has had this year.
Let that sink in. PPV main event on the top selling card of the year. Made 15 thousand dollars.
MMA is a joke.
I'm a fan of both sports, I used to think like that but over time I realized Boxing has a much deeper talent pool. Some of the best Kickboxers who primarily used punches weren't anywhere near as good in Boxing, they got to about journeymen level at most.
If there was to be a cross-over matches, 6 months to a year of training for either athlete Boxers would usually win.
Kickboxers should spar with boxers to get better at the Hands game. Some already do like Tyrone Spong trains with Pedro Diaz and Rico Verhoeven spars with Furys in UK. Both are the upper upper echelon of kickboxing.
Artur Williams was a fringe IBF belt holder at Cruiser, so he is pretty good for a boxer. The kickboxer is also elite, so the sample was quite spot on.
I love boxing above all other fighting sports, but Kickboxers with one kick can potentially break the shin of a boxer or cut the guy's face up with a sharp elbow if the rules allow. To me the point isn't even self defense, but the love of the sport of boxing otherwise I would have done kickboxing/mma instead.

LMFAO!!!!!!!!!!!
MMA is all but dead in Japan and in no way is MMA any bigger then boxing in Russia.
MMA is pretty massive in Russia, considering how popular sambo, judo and wrestling is in that country. MMA died in Japan due to the Yakuza and their dealings with PRIDE. (Its why PRIDE lost its TV deal), but overall, mixed martial arts is exploding in Asia.
I'm a fan of both boxing and MMA, some of you people are either insecure or down playing its rise.
You should be more worried about Boxing slowly losing its legitimacy due to the fact that having a belt means nothing now. Too many alphabet orgs in boxing and its diluting the legitimacy of titles. That and the over all decline of the HW division (MMA is having this problem also).
A sample size of 1 fight? Lol @ that embarrassing performance it was clear after the second kick that the boxer was lost and had no answer which wouldn't be the case for everyone. His defense was also pathetic, such a terrible example. The fighter matters too you know.
Back when I was in the military we were in the field once in a tradoc school and we were getting trained on self defense and at the same time kicking the shiz waiting for a block of instruction when the cadre decided to pit us against each other in hand to hand combat with only the mock aid of a rubber knife, this was back when ufc was huge in the mid 2000s at least in the military so half of the class at least did some mild form of jujutsu o. Some level, and I was one of maybe two boxers and I remember I kept people away with ease trying to kick me, rush me, or shoot for my legs, I would use my jab to keep them away and get my range and when someone would rush me I would do a pull counter which would split a licor a stumbling forward grappler, I wasn't held at all and got kicked a few times but never out of my own punching range. I would hold the dummy knife in my 2 hand and stayed in a peekaboo shell and moved my feet and didn't get touched that much but I lit up a few of my classmates well with 2-3 combos to the face with bare knuckles and drew blood.
People try to point at fights like Toney vs Randy but that's such an outlier and really a poor example, two fighters prime and using their strengths wisely and the fight goes on longer no matter who wins.

With kickboxing, you can humiliate professional boxers while also not laying on guys, best of both worlds.
Ignashov was one of the best Kickboxers at the time facing a Boxer who wasn't his level. Fighters like Sapp and Choi had some success in K-1, but wouldn't have been even in the top 70 as Boxers.

I live in Albuquerque and see a lot of the UFC guys that train at Jackson's Gym around town. Those guys are some athletes.
Just can't get into the sport overall though. More often than not its not that entertaining. A quick KO or 5 rounds of guys laying on each other doesn't get a dime from me. I will take boxing any day.
To paraphrase Jones Jr that two guys going at it one on one in a fight I have my utmost respect for them. That is exactly how I feel, hence I watch boxing, kickboxing and MMA, but these lame jabs MMA guys throw makes them look petty. As if they look "up" to boxing and want to get on it's level and perhaps them throwing these comments will change boxing's status and prestige.

These people are kinda pathetic with their boxing bashing. When they were sky rocketing during 2000s cuz they were new they had these predictions of over running boxing. Guess what happened when their growth stagnated? One day they'll bash the other kissing it up.
I think it also has to do with the jealousy aspect that an average belt holder in boxing can make more than a whole fight card at times. An example is Luis Collazo got 350k vs Khan's $1.5 Million and Anderson Silva made 600 k vs Weidman's 200k in their much anticipated rematch. So, the butt hurt for that runs deep too.
p.s I watch boxing, kickboxing AND mma.

Maidana used Wrestling and Muay Thai against Mayweather, I think he respects MMA.

Reread the posts,,,, your missing the point...
It wasn't about which was bigger, but if people were interested in it.. The poster I quoted said nobody cares about it outside of the USA which is clearly untrue.. Which is bigger is another matter
Brazil, Canada, Russia, Japan would all disagree..

STFU dude. Your Mayweather bashing is pathetic.
Almost as pathetic as MMGay. It was funny to read the comments after those tweets, seems everyone could see right through the UFC and how they were blatantly trying to piggyback off of the fight.
Mayweather couldn't defend the takedown from Maidana. Just saying.
