"After we beat Martinez in June, Cotto is looking at a potential rematch with Floyd Mayweather Jr. or a big fight against Saúl"Canelo"Álvarez", said Freddie Roach.
Still two months remaining for the duel against the Argentine Sergio Martínez and the trainer of the Puerto Rican is looking to the future.
According to Sport World News, Freddie Roach said Cotto has traced the next step of his career in rented boxing.
"After we beat Martinez in June, Cotto is facing a looking at a rematch with Floyd Mayweather Jr. or a big fight against Saúl"Canelo"Álvarez", said Roach.
Cotto aims to become the first Puerto Rican Boxer to win world titles in four different categories. He has been champion at 140, 147 and 154 pounds. Martinez is the current holder of the World Council of boxing (WBC), version of 160 pounds.
"Alvarez is young and has longevity, while Martinez is getting old. After that we achieve victory, we could be looking at two potential fights, one against Mayweather and another with Alvarez", highlighted Roach Sport World News.

Cotto is getting knockout by Martinez how will he qualify for a Floyd fight ? Oh thats right he fits the bill old shop worn
That won't happen because, if Cotto does get KO'd, Manny Pacquaio will suddenly develop the courage to rematch Cotto at 154 and Arum will offer Cotto $10 million to fight Pacquaio.
No chance if Cotto wins. Slim chance if martinez wins. Hopefully martinez wins but golovkin might aswell go to 168 at least there he might get some fights against guys like ward, froch, groves, kessler... those guys dosen't seem as afraid as everyone at 160.
Golovkin will lose to Chavez Jr. and will become as irrelevant on this message board as Lucas Matthysse after he lost to Garcia. The winner of Cotto/Martinez should fight Alvarez next (that is contingent on Alvarez winning and actually being able to make 160 pound limit). The winner of that fight should fight Mayweather in what will likely be Mayweather's last fight.
A rematch serves no purpose. The only person other than Castillo to warrant a rematch thus far has been DLH and Floyd wanted none of him, and rightfully so, even an over the hill DLH almost took that 0.
Mayweather needs to only fight new opponents unless he loses (since then there would be a real reason for a second fight) until he retires.
Really? That must have been the first Floyd fight you have ever seen, other than a bloody nose, which can happen from one solid punch and therefore is largely meaningless, it was a near shutout, so no, your statement isn't even close.
Wait! So cotto roughs him up in a near shutout but somehow dlh almost takes his 0 w/o a telling blow?
No flame. I don't see what you are stating. If you don't mind, please explain. Pm or public.
Haha literally the EXACT same thought I had. Just being in camp with Roach will turn a fighter into a delusional trash talker from the sounds of it. Sergio by brutal, brutal ko. The kind that should end Cotto's great career. If he manages to not take too much of a beating in that fight I suppose he could fight Canelo in some cash grab scenario depending on if Canelo wants Martinez and how a potential fight with Lara turns out. But none of the three fights is winnable for Cotto. Not even close.
Have to agree with this.
I'd be very surprised if Cotto was to win against Sergio.
The Argentinian though has been injuried most of the time after fighting Chavez jr, and looked old in his only fight after that.
That is why I give Cotto a chance at being competitive, but I don't think he'll win.
A Floyd rematch doesn't excite me, I envision Floyd moving more and coast to another UD.
Canelo would give Cotto a beating imo, especially if Roach asks him to pressure Saul. If Cotto tries to box and fights 'smart' instead he might steal a few rounds, but then again, I think he'd lose anyway.
I see cotto wants to lose all of his remaining fights.

Floyd doesnt do rematches unless its an easy fight. Floyd will try his best to fight Khan next and then two more easy fights where he wont take punishment nor engage and hes done. Thank goodness
floyd-castillo 2 never happened? interesting, i guess it was a fantasy fight, lol......when did you start watching boxing?

He won't beat Martinez and he clearly showed he can't beat Mayweather. Canelo is much too powerful and hits too hard for Cotto. At least he will make lots of money every time he fights. Cotto fans are very loyal to him and he has lots of them so he keeps getting and losing big fights.
I see cotto wants to lose all of his remaining fights.
If Cotto beats the Ballerina, there is no doubt that the Mayweather rematch will happen then. Biggest payday available plus another crack at putting a 2nd loss on his record after Maidana beats him this May 3rd.
Wow imagine if El Chino Maidana beats Floyd too?? He'll be the Marco Antonio Barrera of this time.
It'll be the Naseem Hamed Vs Marco Antonio Barrera fight again, where no one was able to figure out that awkward style of Hamed until he got the sh1t beat out of him by Marco Antonio Barrera. El Chino and his trainer Rob Garcia will go down as one of the biggest giant killers of this era.

I want to see the winner fight GGG.

Delusional Floydbots saying that it was a shoot out, etc. Tripping on Floyd juice or something.
These individuals fail to realize that rounds were very close, and Floyd got the notch. Yes, he won some clearly, so did Cotto.
They are afraid that King Cotto will come in and beat thier idol. :bottle: :bottle:
Should be calling for the fight, other than Pac, Miguel is the only one that can give Floyd a competitive fight.

I actually had Cotto winning 2 rounds. But the rounds were competitive even though he was clearly losing the fight. He came forward and really made Floyd work.
