Maidana's 81% KO ratio is being touted as many casuals are getting excited thinking Floyd might taste the canvas against this guy. Sure Maidana has KO'd fringe contenders like Josesito Lopez and made Victor Ortiz quit, but he hasn't stopped the top level fighters since coming to America. He landed that "big shot" against Adrien Broner early, a LW that leapfrogged 140 to snatch away a title from light punching safe target Malignaggi. Sure Broner tasted the canvas, but got up and finished the fight on his feet and even came on strong at the end. Though Robert Garcia's training has added a few extra tools to Chino's limited skillset, he is clearly getting the best out of a flawed product. Devon Alexander has shown Chino is not an adaptable fighter with multiple game plans that can overcome tough puzzles. He will simply seek and destroy. With Mayweather he will simply be seeking all night long, as confused as a lost child in a grocery store. He doesn't have that "one punch" KO power several seem to believe he has. His stoppages against Karass & Lopez came from accumulation. He will not accumulate enough damage on Floyd to take him out. He landed flush on Broner and Broner went down. If he lands the hail mary against Floyd, Money will use his significant strength advantage in the clinch to pin chino's arms from throwing any more until he fully recovers. Then he will beat the living hell out of Maidana for the remainder of the fight. The moral of this story is Maidana has literally a 0% chance of victory in this fight. Boxing is the theatre of the unknown, but we all know this is the truth.
He's tenacious, and he is relentless. That's all we can ask for, Floyd is going to get old in that ring one night...may happen May 3rd. Pun intended.

Does the TS know what a 'punchers chance' is?
It's the very definition of what Maidana has - next to no chance except perhaps to land a big, possibly 'lucky' punch. It's boxing, anyone with a decent punch has 'a punchers chance' even against the best in the world.
it will take more flush shots than maidana's skill set will allow him to land is the gist of the point i'm making.
I think Guerrero is a guy you could say has 0 chance, but for some reason more people hyped him up then they are Maidana. Literally no one but his fans are giving Maidana a chance. Doesn't really make sense to me. What did people see in Guerrero's style that made people think he had a chance?
it wasn't so much guerrero it was the fact cotto made floyd look like he was on the decline and then floyd had the year layoff and the stint in jail time. the perception was guerrero might be able to outwork floyd with a body attack to get the decision on a rusty mayweather. now with floyd fighting twice a year he is sharp and is less likely to "show his age".
I'm seeing more and more post like these more often.
It appears to be a covert way of acknowledging Floyd's greatness, yet hoping that by some heavenly miracle the opponent (in this case Maidana) finally hands Floyd his "0".
.
floyd is a great fighter. he doesn't have the praise of "taking on all comers" but his skill is unquestioned. I in no way expect Maidana to win this. If I were a betting man, the only boxer I could see beating Floyd is Keith Thurman if Thurman is moved a little quicker against 3 solid opponents and then fights Floyd for his 6th and final showtime fight. Even then Mayweather would be the favorite but One Time wouldn't be quite as green in September 2015 and Floyd would be older. It would be a perfect fight for Floyd to cement his legacy and walk away. Wishful thinking though most likely.

if maidana isnt coming just for the pay day, if he is actually comign to win and bring the heat this will be a good fight. But Maidana definately needs to keep his foot on that pedal, get relentless and dirty
I wouldn't say dirty (or at least not 'dirty dirty'), so much as don't give him an ounce of deference or respect.

Let's see how this holds up when Mayweather is hanging from the second rope unconscious with Ellerbe holding him and waving his hand from side to side.
lol wouldn't that be something. floyd gonna win with ease but hey, put 100 down just in case because anything can happen

You make a good point but this could very well get Maidana taken out, which I'm leaning towards. Mayweather has improved considerably in the pocket since his Castillo struggles though, again we'll see, we won't agree here for the most part but one thing we can count on is an exciting fight.
Yeah... It could get Maidana ko'd, but that is the mindset needed to get that slippery bastard :lol1:. Either I fall or you do.
And just as Mayweather has this "dragon" myth around him, Maidana has myth around him as well, of being a tough sonnofa***** that can't be "taken out"
Will be interesting to see the two myths clash and see which one actually doesn't turn out to be a tall tale.
Garcia is going in the other direction with this BUT the impression he is giving us all is that Maidana has little chance.
Where does Garcia give you this impression? I've watched a bunch of ESnews videos and Robert seems to have his head on straight.

Maidana will take Floyd to deep, unknown waters on May 5th, it will be a FOTY candidate war.
Broner did not come on strong toward the end. He got his ass kicked from start to finish and only won a round or two at best. Don't rewrite history. Floyd is much better than Broner in every way including his ability to take hard head punches. Maidana is on a roll and getting better every fight. His confidence and desire might be at an all time high with the Broner win and his chance to beat Mayweather. He is a big puncher with both hands. He will be training to throw a ton of hard punches at Mayweather all night long and keep the pressure on him like Castillo did. Maidana has the killer instinct and he is a good finisher. So while his puncher's chance may be a very small one it is real.
Maidana's best bet isn't a single punch it is that Floyd gets old or gets made old during the fight. I think that is a very small chance that Floyd just shows up old and a tough pull for Maidana to make Floyd feel his age but it is not like something like that hasn't happened before in boxing. Maidana is probably a bit better equipped than most of Floyd's recent opponents to make Floyd feel his age so there is that.
If Floyd is right he wrecks on Maidana though~
in my case, you wont find posts of me upping ghost, canelo, ortiz, marquez and so on's chances vs Floyd. Its something about Maidana specifically.. not that he's an underdog.
Oh man.... I wanna throw a ****ing shoe at Naazim. I know he wants to sound all wisdom-y.. But the worse thing he could have done is fill his fighter's head with such nonsense. Just build up the myth of a man instead of cultivating the thought that he's actually beatable. Your fighter even had Floyd hurt but lost the mental game because all training camp you were building up Floyd as some mythical beast when hurt, instead of a mortal man that can be hurt and finished.. good job!
Besides........ who's to say Floyd's the only one that will take It to another level when hurt? Last time I checked.. thats Maidana's specialty.
Garcia is going in the other direction with this BUT the impression he is giving us all is that Maidana has little chance.
With any one shot.. perhaps. But the thing that is being tragically overlooked that ups his "punchers" chance is his approach to fighting. His all out mentality. His relentlessness and so on. I doubt MM is looking to load up single shots. He's looking to throw many shots and disguise the hardest ones with his volume...
As for Corrales give me a break that was prime Floyd. How about we mention Castillo's puncher's chance.. he fell short stopping Floyd, lacked the pop but he dragged a prime Floyd through Hell all the same..
Floyd aint prime no more.. and Maidana is!
All these factors and more combine to give Chino a boost to the typically accepted pecentage of a puncher's chance.

Maidana gonna lose by a wide margin,, his attacking style is gonna bring the best out of Floyd and I think Maidana gets sliced up coming in... He won't quit but Floyd is just too good for him
He's tenacious, and he is relentless. That's all we can ask for, Floyd is going to get old in that ring one night...may happen May 3rd. Pun intended.
I don't think you know what a pun is.

Maidana doesn't even have "punchers chance" | BoxingScene Community
