..for the Stevenson-Fonfara fight. Nobody in his right mind would pay a significant amount for that fight. Haymon, Espinoza and Mitchel are in cahoots on this one. They put up a number out there that they think HBO will not match and so they could say Showtime's offer is higher. Plus, Stevenson doesn't wanna commit to fighting Kovalev next which is a must for HBO.
It's a way out imo. If Stevenson is getting paid, it's for the Bhop fight which he really prefers in the first place so they devised a strategy for that to happen. He signed up with Haymon eventhough he knew HBO doesn't deal with GBP and Haymon. It was a plan that Kovalev was never a part of and they found the perfect excuse (Sho's offer is higher) to avoid that fight. What sucks is they made people believe that they have the intention to make that fight.
This is about Showtime/Haymon seizing the opportunity to poach Stevenson and derail one of HBO's big projects. Obviously they don't care about the Fonfara fight. But they care about hurting HBO. The Stevenson-Kovalev fight falling apart doesn't matter to them, they're looking at destroying a competitor.
HBO really need to decide whether they are serious about boxing anymore or not. I can understand them not wanting fighters to be able to squeeze them by threatening to run to Showtime, but the alternative is the risk of irrelevance.
Thinking outside of the box I like this comment. It's a wage war to steal premium fighters that have been invested in mildly to magnetize new subscribers in the other side of the field. Let's think, HBO doesn't really have a deep roster in terms of an rubics cube with allot of different combinations of fights to set up through the year like Shotime. Fighters don't want to be limited to certain amount of fights and crossing over is guaranteeing long term steady work. If I'm not mistaken Shotime subscribers have increased 12% since boxing was reintroduced. Sucks we can't get the fights that we want but we're not wearing the fighter's shoes in terms of getting paid so many won't understand.
I'm eagerly awaiting the verdict of this research. I've collaborated with a panel of experts in the local boxing community and we've reached a verdict that it is indeed a very strong duck.
early research of an extensive program has indicated it has indeed broken into top 10 atg ducks. not enough evidence to suggest it rivals the mayweather -pacquaio duck. i am doing further research as we speak..........
if stevenson is getting paid significantly it's for the bhop fight not fonfara.
and there's nothing to steal legally here smh
... Adonis shouldn't have fought Fonfara and could have "smashed" Kov in May for a decent HBO purse, right?
... Then Adonis could have signed with Haymon (and Showtime) and go fight B-Hop for a huge-huge purse... :)
Adonis didn't do that!!!
Therefore "a duck is a duck" -- it was never about money...
its up there with one of the biggest ducks of all time. im doing my research as we speak as to whether its top 5 ,top 10 or top 20 atg duck

it's a big fat duck ... haymon is destroying the sport for the fans ... just want to get a cash cow and then keep him away from the one guy who might beat him ... typical Haymon move.
I won't be paying for any stevenson fight ... ever ... unless it's kovalev

What do you mean? They outbid HBO, an HBO fighter, essentially making him a Showtime fighter. That's a flat out steal and it's legal. They now have right of refusal to Stevensons next fight. In all Liklihood Stevenson will fight BHop so HBO wouldn't bid anyways.
Stevenson is a Showtime fighter now, and really nothing HBO can do about it. They made their choice by not matching the offer. WIsh we could see what the amount was.
You do make a good point with the fake offer though. Some showtime and Haymon agreement on the real amount.

So now taking on the better fighter and highest purse is a duck, simply because AS doesn't want to face the dummy fighter.....
Yall need a new sport..............
I've mentioned this in one of my previous posts. It's a fake offer. We'll soon find out. That's why I'll follow these clowns' footsteps till they leave boxing. This sport needs lots of real investigative reporters.
I'm just glad HBO is taking control over their business.
You would pay a significant amount to legally steal the number #1 or 2 at a given weight class. They are looking at Stevenson as a investment.
if stevenson is getting paid significantly it's for the bhop fight not fonfara.
