I love boxing, I grew up on boxing but let's be honest...
Smh, fans can't even get the match ups they want, this **** is getting way too ridiculous now!!
Make these matchups happen!
Stevenson vs Kovalev
Ward vs Golovkin
Garcia vs Gamboa
Mayweather vs Pacquiao
Provodnikov Vs Marquez
Adrien Broner vs Maidana/Khan/Matthysse
Matthysse vs Garcia Rematch
Robert Guerrero Vs Thurman/Shawn Porter vs Thurman

The structure of boxing is ridiculous to say the least. All in all we've gotten what we've asked for recently with the exclusion of fights blocked by the network feud. Donaire/ Rigo, Lucas/ Danny, Broner/ Maidana, Canelo / Trout .
All those fights you mention are going to go down in due time with the obvious exception. Who's been calling Guerrero to fight anyone? He also turned down the Thurman fight let's not forget. Boxing could definitely benefit from more structure and stronger organization but for the most part we rarely miss out on fights we ask for.
The feuds between networks and promoters hurts boxing but I still love it and I don't give a damn about any other sport. I don't watch the super bowl or the world series but I never miss a good boxing match.
golf is the lamest sport; how can anyone find it entertaining?
in the context of the thread, boxing has a problem
guys who fight for a living are afraid of losing or getting hurt
why not be a fucking ballerina instead?
fighters have their physical limitations as far as going up in weight
beyond that, it's all supposed to be fair game
maybe you can't fight everyone, but you can make an effort
and networks, promoters, sanctioning bodies, etc are guilty too
they're only hurting the sport by not pushing for all the best fights
problem is, they, and many fighters don't care about that
To reference my original post about the UFC, I think that's why Dana White is so respected: he just wants to make the best fights regardless of money (because he's going to make money ANYWAY!)
This is pure UFC propaganda. It's amazing how people just repeat what Dana
White says without even considering its logic or accuracy.
Dana/UFC just wants "the best vs. the best"? Yeah, that's why Chael Sonnen keeps getting title shot after title shot despite losing virtually every big fight he's in. And why does Sonnen keep getting title shots? NOT because he's the best fighter in the weight class or he deserves it more than other fighters. It's because of $$$$$$.
Chael talks s**t. A lot of it. That helps sell PPVs. That's why he keeps getting title shots.
When you have a PPV every month, like the UFC, your primary concern will always be money. At least boxing only does a handful of PPVs per year.
The UFC thing is a myth. I'm sick of hearing about it.
How many universally called for fights haven't happened in boxing?
Everyone called for Rigo/Doaire. We got it. Everyone called for Chavez/Martinez, we got it. Everyone called for Canel/Mayweather we got it. I could go on with tons of lesser fights.
Look you list a bunch of good fight in your OP, but the funny thing is, those fights have mostly just been made interesting. It's not like people have been calling for all those fights for years.
This is an anti boxing, pro UFC threads. It's pretty obvious. I mean the UFC did just headline with some ***** no one cares about against another chick no one besides her family has ever even heard of. Ya, the fans are getting what they want so much. That is why a thread pops up on sherdog everydays about hw the sport is failing.
And lol at Dana White being respected.Again, go to sherdog and tell me anyone respects that fool/liar. UFC's biggest fights have never happened, UFC has rpbberies, early stoppages, bull**** fights, freak fights. It has been marketed to be the best of anti boxing and people are starting to figure out what i did years ago. That's all bull****.
it depends
everyone has different definitions of what "lame" is
some people actually think "lame" means prosperous/rich/great
lol sounds odd but true gotta consider the fact people are different nd were taught differently growing up based on environment
A league would be great like football where top amateurs are drafted and people can organize independent stuff too still but get invited to the big leagues if they are viewed by boxing scouts as talented.
What we have now is something dare I say akin to a carnival act organized by independent businessmen.
Pretty damn spot on. It seems as though money is the only thing that matters these days. To reference my original post about the UFC, I think that's why Dana White is so respected: he just wants to make the best fights regardless of money (because he's going to make money ANYWAY!)
This!! ^^ And I think that's why the UFC (even though it doesn't entertain me in the slightest way) is much more appealing to mainstream fans of combat sports, because there isn't 300 belts in each weight division and the best usually fight the best in each division; no cold wars, no 8 organizations in each division, etc. Boxing needs to have one promo company and one belt in each division and I think things will be wonderful.
All of this ^^^^.
There are plenty of good fights. Sure there are some fights we want to be made that haven't happened, but unfortunately that's part of the sport. I wouldn't use the word lame. Frustrating at times? Sure. If you really think it's the lamest sport then stop watching.

yeah, that would be wonderful. At this point, anything would be better organizational wise than what we have now. It just seems like things are all over the place in the business world of boxing
There is always a match up fans want, and guess what? Most of them actually ****ing happen, unless your name is Mayweather.
That's just how boxing is. As soon as one big match happens the next one is thought out and wanted. If it doesn't happen in the next 3 months, fans complain no matter what the circumstance.
Oh, really? Most of them happen except when it comes to Mayweather. Plenty of fans would like to see Pacquaio vs Danny Garcia, Lucas Matthysse, Robert Guerrero, Adrien Broner, Alvarez or Martinez. There is no chance any of these fights will happen. Also, there is no chance of seeing Bradley or JMM against any of these guys. None of these fights involve Mayweather.
You win the award for the most useless comment of the day!
I agreed with you until I saw those last two matchups. A guy with one professional fight under his belt vs a career journeyman for a world championship belt is not a good fight. There are about a dozen other fighters who have earned a shot at that world championship belt. Lomanchenko hasn't even earned the right to headline a FNF card.
Also, an overhyped, over-protected fighter with an unproven record vs a guy who looks good in losing every time he steps up to fight an A-level fighter is not a PPV worthy fight.
They are going to be entertaining fights regardless.
Besides, the big names we're all watching haven't signed into any fights yet. We still don't know who Matthysse, Thurman, Ward, Golovkin, Khan, Broner, and Provodnikov are going to fight next. On top of that, most are likely going to fight twice this year. If anything 2013 taught me, it's that the big competitive match ups occur in the second half of the year.

also provo vs danny garcia, if not for the immediate matthysse rematch
sport is getting pretty sad

Get the sh*t as they come boxing offers no certainty of anything that is why we love it. I could have sworn 2013 was gonna suck ass judging by how lame 2012 was for boxing, but the year was full of great fights and great upsets all throughout.
I think lame is a poor choice of words, I think most will agree that it is the most poorly organized sport in the world.
Lame is simply the slang word for poorly organized.

You are right. Boxing is the lamest sport and it won't get better anytime soon because you won't see any of the fights you mentioned in 2014 if ever.
Cotto - Martinez
Pacquiao - Bradley
Lomonchenko - Salido
Canelo - Angulo
Good fights are happening all around you. Stop looking at the negatives.

I am looking forward to these matchups, bro.
....but we both know the match ups this year can be way better.
It just seems like every year the good match ups can't be made for some reason. The best are not fighting the best imo I hope that changes now that we have alot of new talent, and **** this cold war ****. There is more than enough good quality match ups to be made !
