This Q is mainly for the Mexicans among us...
I'm wondering this because from my viewpoint over here in the UK Canelo doesn't seem to be the typical fighter that Mexicans throw themselves behind. He's a counterpuncher and a boxer before he is a fighter and he doesn't have that same machismo you'd expect from a Mexican.
Angulo does have those things. He's rough tough and likes to push the action. If he could produce a mauling KO win (I'm talking the kind where the other fighters will is broken) in this fight could we have true Mexican star on our hands?
Would the more traditional Mexican fanbase flock to the guy who KO'd the pretty boy counter puncher?
Would his previous KO losses count against him?
Mexicans are true fight fans and can appreciate more than just one style. Guys like Marquez and Barrera have had huge followings because of their versatility and intelligence just as much as for their courage.
I'll be rooting for Perro but don't expect him to win... Which would make an impressive victory that much more impactful and would raise his stock tenfold. I don't think he has as big of a following in México as he does in the States, so a lot of people will be being their opinions of his on this performance... So yes, he could be a star.
Oscar de la Hoya is who your describing Sanchez took punches with his faces and would have been knocked out by Chavez SR ... Angulo can get a fresh start if he beats
You take that back. :bs2:
You don't need to be a face first brawler for mexicans to get behind. Chavez, Morales, Barrera and Marquez weren't no defense, take two to land one punch fighters. The great late Salvador Sanchez was a boxer puncher. He could box you but wasn't afraid to get down when he needed to. Those are the kind of fighters mexicans like to get behind. As long as you're not afraid to take a punch and come swinging right back when you get hit you'll have the respect of the mexican fanbase

I would be really surprised if Angulo wins, but to answer your question, it would definitely raise his status. Will he become a star like Canelo? I'm not sure.
Stop dreaming angula the quitter is not beating canelo neither is Lara I know a lot of people here hate canelo when his only lost comes from a guy who makes everybody look ordinary canelo is the truth time will prove me right he ain't no hype job like Chavez jr!! War canelo::boxing:
Bulked up record, all the hype to have people believe he had the skills to beat Floyd. Canelo really was a hype job to push the Floyd fight to record numbers. I also do not predict Angulo being a future star even if he beats Canelo.
And his best clear cut win is shot to sh1t welter Mosley
Austin trout u mean an undefeated champion get facts right or don't post stop making a fool of your self

I would be nice for Angulo to get that big support from the Mexican and Mexican american fan base if he koed canelo but the problem is this version of Alfredo is on the downside of career already. Alfredo looked much better pre-Kirkland fight. He's punches were sharper and quicker and had alittle better all around movement.
I like angulo his story style majed for a fan fav. If he can ko canelo he'd be exposed to a great mexican fan base I wish he had more momentum headed into the fight
