In my thread I created for ranking credible threats people would like to see Floyd face GGG keeps coming up as a choice but people immediately dismiss it as a fight Floyd would never take due to the legitimate risk involved.
How would Floyd deal with a GGG attempting to walk him down all night? Cotto as able to get to Floyd with some level of success. Would GGG be able to do the same amount and potentially worse damage than Cotto did?
If GGG were actually in some sort of a threat, I.E. getting hit or losing, I'm sure that would change.
One would imagine Krusty Sanchez would instruct Golovkin to throw Floyd off him in an attempted clinch.
If GGG were actually in some sort of a threat, I.E. getting hit or losing, I'm sure that would change. In the Ouma fight, Golovkin pushed Kasim around and fought in the trenches cos he had to. Macklin nor Rosado made GGG have to go to that zone. Plus, what you see is GGG being defensive when getting clinched, I.E. making sure he's in the right position to not be hit himself, while making it look like he's not even trying.
Curiously GGGs one of the few fighters I've actually seen actually wrestling as part of his training, whether this was just fun or part of the training routine wasn't clear from the video I saw (it was a Big Bear one) - but it looked like Gennady was just as comfortable with that sport, and certainly tends to outmuscle and gain the edge whenever in a clinch.
I was especially impressed with the 2 or 3 times he turned Stevens to get his back away from the ropes by putting his head down and kinda bulling and turning the pair around through 90+ degrees without Curtis seeming to realise what he was doing - leaving Stevens suddenly with his back to the ropes.
It's one of the particular things I've noticed with GGG (also a few other particularly aware fighters such as Floyd) that he always seems aware of his surroundings. - his position in the ring, alertness to ref comments or calls from his corner, the 10 second hammer - it seems (to me) as though he's a guy who's always thinking as he fights, never lost in the fight.

Like I said in my previous posts, I'm not saying it would work the whole fight and Floyd would win, I'm just showing that some fighters (including GGG) usually accept clinches and you don't need to be stronger than them to tie them up. GGG is not the only one, Pacquiao is also like that, so was the man in my sig. The problem is how to deal with them between the clinches.
floyd can win this, I would pick him to win, hes got a lot of tricks. I dont think GGG decisions him so it comes down to do I think he will KO floyd for sure and I dont.
However, floyd wont fight him very aggressively, he will use movement and clinches to avoid GGG's power punch as the top priority. Then after he wins people will ***** and call him a ***** ect cause he didnt fight like mayorga. Some of these people will be lennox fans who completely forgot that they gave lennox a pass for clinching all the time against smaller men. But thats how boxing goes.
Right...
The only one who can outwrestle GGG is Andre Ward -- and Ward knows that as he called out Golovkin. :)
They should do a wrestling match to promote the fight. Who wouldn't want to see Ward in some wrestling tights? Would look very fitting to wear as he boxes too.
You don't necessarily need strength to clinch someone. Certain fighters accept clinches and wait for the referee to break it.

Nice and easy. Other fighters would push you off or keep hitting you in the clinch, GGG usually doesn't.

Tell this to Ward -- he earns his living from "muscle clinching"... :)
Golovkin used to wrestle - he's a strong little dude. You're saying Floyd could outmuscle GGG? That's more of a stretch than Floyd lasting 12 rounds.

Actually Golovkin is not hard to clinch, he usually accepts clinches.

Floyds very irritating with his keeping everyone in suspense of who he is going to fight.
If people want to know if Floyd may one day fight GGG, Floyd never gives anything away. He wouldnt give anyone any idea whatsoever if he would contemplate and if you asked him the best response you may get is
"never say never, i dont know what the future holds"
but people would rather have more honesty from Floyd, with "i wouldnt dare risk my zero against a guy i wouldnt entertain getting in the ring with, let alone beat"
Pot-shot, move and clinch. Not saying it would work but that's how he would fight GGG.
he would never be able to tie golovkin up. golovkin is way too strong.

He wouldn't deal with GGG
/Thread
Floyd wouldnt get touched by GGG.
Canelo and GGG are very similar in fighting styles. While GGG applies more pressure, floyd would make it hard for GGG to hit him. GGG would be forced to box
Lol, i almost died with this comment. Dumb ****
GGG is just as skilled if not moreso than Castillo, who beat Floyd and fought to a near draw in the rematch. Floyd can't handle that style while giving up such size ontop of it.
