Going in, which was the last fight you thought FMJ might actually lose? I'm not talking about his opponent having "a chance." I mean a fight where you were willing to bet real money on Floyd losing.
I had The Big Show beating him..never thought he'd move up to super duper Sumo heavyweight but he proved a lot of us wrong that night.
I think Floyd fought a weight drained Big Show to be honest
For the first few rounds, I had Ricky Hatton beating Floyd. I thought it might happen since Ricky was applying great pressure, until about the 5-6 round when Floyd started finding the lead right hand. Aside from that, I can't say anyone aside from Oscar and Castillo had him close to a loss.
(remember, Mosley had him doing the chicken dance however)
Well his resume isn't that strong and he don't really take risks so its not likely youd expect him to lose.
He picks fighters he don't think he will lose to, and if he is a bit fearful he uses a CW.
I haven't ever picked Floyd to lose a fight. 3 or 4 years ago though, I would've picked Pac to beat him.
Today, the Pac fight is 50/50 imo, the longer Floyd waits, the more the tide is turning in his favour. He's waiting until Pac is completely finished and focused on politics before fighting him.
I think a fight with Lara would also be 50/50.
GGG and Maravilla would beat him at 154 for sure.
My old boy Mosley. Shane's destruction of Margarito had Floyd a little... "disinterested" in facing him.
Can you imagine those two facing off at Lightweight, though?? It would have been one for the ages.
Definitely.
Mosley-Mayweather was my super bowl of boxing that year, and decade, despite it being made so late. The moment Mosley stopped Margs (which had never been done, let alone the iron-chinned fighter being knocked down), I said pac, Cotto, and surely Mayweather wouldn't come back to fight Mosley and I was right.
Cotto ducked the rematch, outright. Everybody in pac's camp tried to look cool saying Mosley's name and mentioning a catchweight and when Mosley called their bluff and said he'd just go to 140 because he wanted the fight so bad, BAM! pac-Cotto at '45 gets made. Mayweather had already decided to come back and fight Marquez. And we all know what happened after the Marquez fight with the infamous Mosley and BHop crashing the post-fight interview. At that point, I though Mayweather was going to completely shun Mosley and avoid fighting him just because of that.
Mosley then signed to fight Berto in January 2010. Mayweather called all of pac's negotiation bluffs, and that fight fell through. So since the loonies were gungho on Mayweather needing to fight pac, they called him a coward and said he should fight Mosley but he'd duck Mosley, too (this because Berto had pulled out of their January fight).
I couldn't stand pac stans at all, but as a boxing enthusiast, I also thought Mayweather woudn't fight Mosley. Arum was saying Mayweather would never fight Mosley because there was a chance that he'd lose. Mayweather signs to fight Mosley and all of a sudden, he's shot, old, has no chance, etc.
I was ecstatic because this was a fight where Mayweather was fighting a guy with one-punch power and was just as fast if not faster than him (last time we saw that was when he fought Zab). Even an older Mosley I still thought could beat Mayweather if he landed. It wasn't farfetch'd at all. People complained of Mosley's age, ring rust, back-to-back training camps.... all the excuses in the book, but fact of the matter is that he destroyed Margs a year prior to, had time to prepare for the toughest contest in his career, he could have even taken a 'gimme' fight if he wanted (which we could say was Berto, but he pulled out, which begs the question why couldn't Mosley just fight a late sub?)...
Regardless, Mosley, like Mayweather, was an athletic specimen. He wasn't necessarily like other fighters. Not saying he didn't have to work hard to get sharp, but he's a bit of a throwback. No matter what fight he's in, he's going to be ready.
great thread. I had to think abut this one
honestly, it's quite a bit. I'll say I've never felt that strongly about any of these recent ones...but I give them the respect as pros....so, of late... Oscar, Shane for sure...questions for Guerrero...was always confused about predicting Canelo (-2pds)
it's not that I'm rooting against him or anything, I just feel like it's so difficult to stay on top that I give a serious look to all opponents, I try not to treat floyd like a superhuman. The right punch, an off night, or anything and it would be over for anyone, not just him
You're right, anything can happen in a fight. But how often does something truly unexpected happen? That's why they're called "upsets." One can go broke very quickly betting against the odds.
Mosley....I even made bets on Floyd getting stopped in that fight...Mosley is one of my all time favorites....so of course I had him picked....that night I became a believer....I didn't think Floyd had that toughness about him....he worked well that night....I vowed to never underestimate him again!!
Call me crazy but I thought Ortiz would beat him. He had the power, speed (decent) and size.
I thought Ortiz was doing a good job early on by swarming Floyd even tho a lot of it wasn't landing clean. But like they say, to beat Floyd, tire him out by hitting arms, shoulders, etc.
I think Floyd felt threatened thus found the easy way out with the cheapshot. And no I'm not trolling.

LOL @ this.... if he was that mentally weak (clearly you haven't seen a lot of his fights) he would've faltered in the Mosley fight where he was hit much harder and cleaner than Ortiz ever came close too. Floyd does what ever he can to win, he would've done that against ANYONE even Marquez who he was schooling and was in no danger.
Call him whatever outside the ring, but he's mentally one of the most underrated fighters.

He already lost a fight. Against Castillo in their first fight.
I went to boxingrec and fightfax....they are stating that Money won the original and the rematch.
You may need to contact them in regards to this error, because if you don't....the HISTORY BOOKS will show Money as the winner of both encounters.
