Where was this emphasis when Kovalev was his mando and he wasn't signed to HBO.
Man, Showtime must have some kind of miracle grow because these GBP fighters grow hella big balls after the network war happened
I dunno about this one, perhaps he will be the second white boy you lose to?
But kovalev is favoured to beat you, so youd be brave to fight him. But I don't want him to harm you, and make you not want to fight anymore.
Because as old as you are, id still like you to be successful at 5o years of age.
"Hopkins ducking kovalev doe"
oh the fight was made? i thought hopkins was just talking sh-it again but i'm glad that they made the fight. it would be a shame to just say you wanted to fight someone and then go fight murat instead.
I'd love to pick Kov, but sadly I used up all my "BHop is getting up there, and I think he's biting off more than he can chew with this young guy" picks by the late 90's. :theyareon
Dunno Hopkins, Kovalev might be a lil too much for you at this point.
At this point exactly, a few years ago, Hopkins could neutralise Kov but I don't think he can now, Kov is too strong and hits too hard. I think he'd be the first guy to really hurt Hops, same for Stevenson.
I think Hops should unify against Shumenov, make history yet again and retire.
Correct me if i'm wrong but didn't Kovalev turn down the Hopkins fight? I thought I remembered reading an article about it.
Yes, you remember "perfectly"... Kovalev was so "scared" of grandpa, that he is running even today, as we speak. Fortunately, they caught big star Karo Murat... :) :) :)
Correct me if i'm wrong but didn't Kovalev turn down the Hopkins fight? I thought I remembered reading an article about it.
Showtime and Golden Boy publicly stated that they were not interested in and rejected the the Hopkins-Kovalev mandatory fight because Kovalev brings nothing to the table and is not well known enough in the United States (who fought on NBC 3 times in 2013.)
A couple of weeks later when Kovalevs team received a title fight offer from Cleverly/HBO.......... Showtime approved the "well known" Karo Murat
Take that how you like
I swear, these GBP fighters gain super confidence when they know they can't fight these other guys. like kids taunting a caged lion....better not fall into the cage
Correct me if i'm wrong but didn't Kovalev turn down the Hopkins fight? I thought I remembered reading an article about it.
B Hop would beat Kovalev. Kovalev can't box with Hop and he isn't strong enough to rough up Hop. Even at this age Hop beats him.
The key to beat Hopkins is controling distance, and havinng good balance, if you cant do that he will hit and hold and squezze out a victory.
Kovalev has shown that his footwork is top notch, he basicly beats his opponents by constantly being in firing distance then steps away or to the side keep his apponent were he wants them, from a technical point of view its nice to see someone having such natural footwork talent.
His Ko+s starts with his balance he can sit down and throw hard punches without ever standing still.
Unlike Pascal that needs to be on the outside and then explodes.
Hopkins wont be abel to get close to him and hold and smuther his game, he will get picked apart and broken down and stopped, simply a bad match up
It would basicly be like the Dawson fight if Dawson had twice the punching power and a killer instinct.
And that is maybe the most important part, Kovalev like many of russian guys, are a stoned cold killer, almost synical in his dismantel of his apponent, he wont give a **** when bernard tries to intimidate or get under his skin, or plays dirty.
Hopkins will need to not trade with Kovalev otherwise he will be flattened, he copies same fight style in his last fight he surely will get steam rolled for 12 or stopped.
Kovalev was a no-name, with no belt, and brought no money. Is that simple enough for you?
You know he fought Murat right? That guy that Steve Smoger is pushing around in your sig
Ward is going to be the first boxer to expose this cab killer once he moves up to 175 this year.
Hopkins just turned 49 yrs.old.
Why cabbie killer? He came out of nowhere last year and fought pretty good comp
I really don't want to see big legend B-Hop with Kov in the same ring... Grandpa must retire in full glory...
Don't worry - you won't see it, the fight never happens. Hopkins has got Shumenov to take care of.
are we forgetting hopkins couldnt handle dawson? Lets be realistic here, this is just talk, but if they fought hop would be an underdog and rightfully so. Kovalev isnt as one dimensional as everyone is trying to make him out to be. He has good footwork and quick feet. I think hop needs to be choosey with his opponents at this point and hes earned it, hes gonna be 50. Cleaning out the division is bull**** he can spout because the fights will never happen due to the GB and TR beef, and he knows it. As exceptional as he is for his age, hopkins wouldnt be wise to fight stevenson or kovalev at this point. No need for him to take a real bad beatdown this late in his career. Both of those guys are at the top of their game, and hops craftiness can only go so far. His lack of power will keep him from being able to keep either of these guys off of him. Both are stronger and faster then him and both come well prepared and are well trained. I like bhop too, but there comes a point where you have to be realistic. You can argue anything on the internet to no end and without an actual fight, everyone is right. If your going to use who you like or dont like as the basis to your logic in these "conversations", then your merely contributing to the circle jerk that most internet forums have become. Everyones got an agenda, and making logical arguments doesnt seem to be high on most people's lists. unfortunately.:Thinkingo
