the greatest heavy weight ever...
is it safe to say he is the number one greatest boxer, as he IS bigger than all the other boxers who ranked higher than him on the p4p of all times?

No. He couldn't even beat Joe Frazier at times. (He really lost the 3rd fight seeing as how he was retiring on his stool at the very second the Frazier corner threw in their towel.)

Come on man, on what basis?
Louis had power in his fasts but Ali was faster, threw more often, had better combinations, a better chin and better defence. I actually think ALi would make Louis look quite ordinary.
I agree with you here, Joe Louis was very good, no question, but a lot of guys shown they could outbox him, granted he knocked most out after..
Can anybody really see Ali pulling a Billy Conn and being knocked out late!? Nah, Ali had one of the ATG chins! Prime he was nigh untouchable and threw in beautiful combinations which were very accurate! I think that Louis would be behind by a long stretch on the scorecards and would get anxious trying to knock Ali out late and be countered and knocked out around the 13th or 14th round!
If you meant to say, prime Ali would be the favorite in any fight, against any opponent in the history of boxing, then yes. Absolutely yes.
Look I'm a huge Ali fan too, I 100% feel he's the greatest heavyweight of all time! But would he favourite P4P against any opponent ever?? Nah, Sugar Ray Robinson would be favourite, maybe Willie Pep and Henry Armstrong also!
I truely think a prime joe louis could beat a prime ali.

Nothing against ali but not going to war for your country when you get drafted is not "fighting the system" that's being a *****
yeah.
Forget that he was already turned down because he was not smart enough, but as soon as he was heavyweight champion they wanted him.
if i am not mistaken the us supreme court vindicated ali on that case...
so i think you have to reconsider on your view....just saying
It was a very politicised supreme court then and as well it went with the flow of the Hippy Generation and the anti-war crazies. Public figures couldn't go out of doors at certain times and in certain areas. The mobs would descend on a park in their tens of thousands and after a few nights of dope and booze and sex, would move on, leaving the place looking like the Great San Francisco Earthquake of 1906 which destroyed the whole city and killed about 4-5000 people. And there were many more whose bodies were never found..
So I think Ali's winning his appeal was a mark of those times. Also, he had an enormous help from Howard Cosell, probably the most influential boxing announcer in history who almost single-handed kept Ali's name and cause in the public eye.
If we're talking about every boxer through the whole history of the sport, Ali could beat most but he'd take some losses too. Ali admitted that Marciano would probably beat him. It's not hard to imagine Dempsey giving him problems too. There were plenty of fighters of lighter divisions who could upset him. Size isn't as important as people think. Many of the skilled fighters from the past who'd be considered "small" now would actually be hell for today's heavyweights. Some of those little guys were incredibly tough, fast and strong.
I truely think a prime joe louis could beat a prime ali.
I agree with you.
And I believe that a Prime Jack Johnson would have beaten a prime Joe Louis. This was the strong belief of Louis' trainer Jack "Chappie" Blackburn who should have known.. He knew Johnson well,, and fought during his time, wrote to him when he was in gaol. He told Louis that Johnson would have beaten him "badly", that he had the habit of reaching out and touching his opponent just when his opponent was going to throw a punch, and could feint Louis into knots.
It is a well known fact that Johnson, although peeved at Louis because he was too controversial to be his trainer, told people that Louis would be beaten by someone with a good quick right hand over Louis' left. And that's exactly what happened against Schmeling, when Louis was mowing everyone down.
There are many historians who are convinced that Johnson would have beaten Ali, as Ali was a less talented imitation of Johnson (when he wanted to be) and that everything ali did, Johnson could do much better, as well as much that Ali couldn't do. Johnson was also a very good infighter, with a killer right uppercut, as well as a defensive expert.
It's a fact that Johnson spent 14 years unbeaten until he lost to Jess Willard in that "fight to a finish" 45 rd contest, aged 37, very unfit, and in the 26th rd. in 104 degree heat... Up to the 22nd rd Johnson had won every round, against Willard, 6" taller.

Not pound for pound. You mean, heavyweight Ali against any opponent, right? I'd agree in that case.

Ali is the GREATEST to ever live. Inside and outside the ring. A heavyweight that could float like a butterfly and sting like a bee.. fast hands, good eyes, great reflexes, and a hell of a chin. ( I congratulate Joe Fraizer and
Wins the title in 1964, gets laid off because he was fighting the system/the man, comes back in 1974 to KNOCK OUT.. ANOTHER.. huge feared puncher at HW.
Something you might of not seen yet, Ali winning the gold medal at the Olympics in the finals:
Both these men were at 178 for a LHW fight
very well said....amen to that....
got nothing more to add

if its not p4p then its stupid and thats why I say it makes no sense. BTW, he stll wouldnt be favored over everyone in history. Some guys are still too big for him IMO and even some guys his size or a lil smaller could give him some trouble IMO
Out of the big guys. I'd give Ike Ibeabuchi, Lewis, Holmes the best chances in the history of boxing.
Out of the smaller guys. None. Reach would be too much, and he'd pop that jab on them all night long, and rag doll them in clinches. By the time the 5th round came along, most of the smaller guys would've quit.
