When Chico got up on 9, damn i can see quite a few referee's who would have counted him out.
Will forever be thankful to Tony Weeks for letting the fight go on, and giving Corrales the chance to provide us with one of the best endings to a fight i've ever seen.
If you aren't cheating, you aren't trying. The mouthpiece spitting adds to the legend.
YES.
I was literally talking to my TV: "That's right, Chico! Spit it out - get some air!"
Greatest boxing match ever recorded.
Amen. The definition of an inside fight.
Yep, couldn't agree more with you. Credit to both fighters because that's exactly what I call inside fighting, don't think I have ever seen corrales in a boring fight.
You're not going to like my opinion. I think Weeks and Corrales spitting out his mouth piece on purpose robbed Castillo of an almost certain KO win. Corrales spitting out the mouth piece on purpose gave him extra time to clear his head and recover from Castillo's punches. It takes about 15 seconds to wash the mouth piece and put it back. Then Weeks takes another 10 or 15 seconds to take a point away from Corrales and that gave Corrales even more recovery time. Weeks should have waited till the end of the round to take the point away. It wasn't that many years ago that they did not stop the fight to wash and replace a mouth piece that came out. To this day I think Casillo was robbed of a KO win he should have had. Corrales used the mouth piece trick in future fights. He used it in his fight with Clottey but he lost anyway.
You're not wrong. The cheating absolutely saved Corrales. Doesn't take away from the fight IMO. It adds to it.
Yup, it really does.
I just wish there was some sort of seperate HD camera angle focusing on the crowd as i would have loved to have seen the reactions on as many of the peoples faces that i could have.
What a fight to have witnessed in the flesh by the people that were fortunate enough to make it there.
Yeah, it would've been pretty wild. Its funny seeing Winky Wright jumping up and down losing his mind while the fight gets stopped.

I'm with you but Castillo emphatically KO'd Corrales in the second fight which kind of makes everything OK, for me anyway.

Sometimes this fight seems like yesterday, other times It feels like a lifetime ago, but It never gets old. Great, great fight, and probably In most boxing fans top 5-10 of all time.

Referees have a much greater effect on the outcome of fights than some people would like to admit. In saying that it must be one of the hardest jobs to make a split second judgement. Without the benefit of replays and slow motion, judging how hurt a fighter is can be near impossible. Luckily Weeks got it spot on here, but how many comebacks have we been robbed of? How many fighters primes have been robbed by referees letting the fighter carry on past a safe point?
