True, but he's not selling. His last PPV had a ton of hype but sold under 350k. His only hit PPV was carried by Brock Lesnar.
True but I hear they are going to have him Main Eventing in Mexico City soon. If that's the case he will probably get ALOT bigger. We all know having a large Mexican fanbase can make an average fighter Cough*Chavez*Cough a box office star.
For all the talk of how Silva vs Weidman would destroy any boxing PPV it may have in fact become the biggest disaster in their history.
1. Despite all the promo and hype their google searches were only trending at 500k before the fight further highlighting their failing business. Remember Manny-Rios was trending similarly and that did 500k buys.
2. Silva breaks his leg in a horrific manner which will clearly turn a lot of fans off MMA. They were afraid to show the replay again.
3. They were hoping to turn Weidman into the next big US star but this win will do nothing for his image. Nobody is going to be forking out for his next fight after this. Their star's career is over and no one is there to replace him.
4. MMA's most talented fighter loses twice in a row in embarrassingly bad fashion. Is this a boxing forum or an MMA forum? Don't worry, i'll wait.
Comparing MMA to Boxing is like comparing Hockey to Football... they're both combat sports, but that's where it ends. MMA's big sell is their matchmaking, but they don't build up their fighters like Boxing does. There's no mystique.. or added intrigue to MMA fighters. I'm an MMA fan, but I don't get emotionally invested in their fighters. In Boxing, a loss means so much more... every fight means something. I just don't get that from MMA.
just wanna say that chavez II was probably the first encounter i had with boxing, loved that videogame so much, the music at the beginning was amazing, loved it. played with my dad and he always picked chavez and he always kicked my ass haha
that fight was dumb anyway. the size difference is so massive. no chance. at least in the ufc the people in the same division always fight each other unlike boxing Martinez-golovking, Floyd-pac, Stevenson-kovalev. SMART-WORK DEDICATION
That's an excuse, everyone wanted that fight.
GSP vs Silva happened? Hmm.

Their bigger problem is that their two biggest stars (GSP and Silva) are both gone. They still have Jon Jones but they have to get Cain Velasquez in that mexican market ASAP. If he can adhere himself to the mexican fanbase they will be allllrighttt.

I'm an MMA fan too and I can't help but feel that MMA fans have this coming.
All the years when they kept saying that Boxing would die the moment the established stars at the time retire like Jermaine Taylor, Ricky Hatton, Calzaghe, Lewis, Mosley, De La Hoya etc. etc. And yet they still develop new stars every generation and Boxing is still alive as always.
Now the roles have turned since GSP, Silva and Brock may or may not be gone. It's MMA's turn to prove that they can produce new stars to carry on as the old guard passes the torch.

I'm plenty educated I asure you.All I know that I get the fights that I wanna see.But I'm just a fan of the sport and not on a holly mission like you guys who never made a mistake in you're life.Us regular folk are scum:alcoholic but when we make a mistake we apologize and learn for our mistakes and move on just like DW did.You didn't....
WTF are you talking about?? I honestly have no clue how that relates to what I said. As far as my stance, I just want the best sport possible for the fighters and for the fans. I will never let my feelings as a fan get in the way of the truth. That's the problem with sites like this, they become platforms for extreme fanaticism. People willing to engage in an honest, objective discussions are put off by the apologists and self-appointed propagandists. You can like the UFC without having to declare everything they do is perfection. Same thing applies to Mayweather, Pac, etc.
if boxing had ufc matchmaking, we would be seeing pacquiao vs mayweather 3 by now
Yeah but that would take Floyd's right to duck and that would be awfull!!!Those, Those scumbags!!!Burn in hell I say!!!!:usa2:
Ignorance. I've trained around guys who are currently in the org (you've seen them on tv) and they feel that they are not treated well, at all. DW is trash. He's called a female reporter a c#nt, doesn't have a honest bone in his body, supresses his fighters rights, etc. Get educated.

Which is why they have no stars coming up. UFC is scrambling to make stuff happen. You can see that with the womens division and adding lower weight classes. Sound familiar?
Boxing model is tried and true. It's only problem is that it is so fragmented and greed is hard to overcome. Some fragmentation is good imo, as it allows for competition, and competition equals a better product (showtime and HBO this year proved that).

Boxing should take a page out of the UFCs' book, Boxing is my number 1 and always will be but there are no cuddled UFC fighters out there. The best fight the best CONSTANTLY often at the demand of fans, it makes it all the more impressive when someone goes on a good run of wins.
And to make it even better because the best fight the best losses often don't impact on marketability, Lesnar had lost to Mir in what his 2nd fight? He was still as marketable afterwards. Cain Velazquez also. Anderson Silva had lost a handful of times before Weidman (though one was disputable) and was still a big ol' hit.
Boxing needs to take a page out of UFC promotion, IMO boxing is the more entertaining easily but promoters ruin much of boxing.

mikinoki has been exposed so many times. His pro UFC bias and no idea of general mma knowledge outside of one organization.
Douchebag stop acting like you know me cuz you don't.I am a huge mma fan.I watch Bellator religiously and love their tournament format and also I watch any good mma I can get my hands on.Just because you're a conspiracy theorist and don't trust that the UFC is doing a great job doesn't mean we don't have the right to be fans. The only exposed guys here are you and croz because you always bash on them instead of suporting the promotions that you think it's doing a great job and ignoring the scumbags.I show my love for something I enjoy and you show you're hate for something you don't like. Now whos the exposed scumbag in this situation?Did you guys saw the great event that was ufc 168 and all the great fights of 2013(the greatest mma year ever)?Stop being blind guys and let the bussines side of the sport to the pros and just be fans if you're really fans and not a bunch of trolls.
ExposedMiki out:blow:

Jon Jones is the UFC's star...
chris weidman is better than Jon jones who got schooled by the swede last time.
Weidman is the new face of UFC and rightfully so, he schooled silva twice now.
