Am I looking at some kind of dive?
Who drops BOTH their hands and tenses their arms in the face of a wind up punch?

Seriously, Are you blind or stupid?
It is clear that he was trying to emulate his hero Floyd wow us with his reflexes by dodging the punch.
Also why in the hell if he was taking a dive would get up continue to fight for 10 more rounds.
i keep watching this gif over and over again, can only imagine the madness in broner's head as he's getting off the canvas. he's never been hit like that ever in his life, never been knocked down, and reality hit him like a ton of bricks.
paulie was brilliant in this telecast, i think showtime kinda **** rides paulie a lil bit always praising his commentary like he's some kind of god but... he knows his stuff. he called it perfectly. maidana has that kinda loop in his left hand and he turned it into a left hook. it seriously looks like a jab to the body at first in slow motio
Maybe he was trying to lure Maidana in by dropping his hands and talking to him so that he could dodge and counter. It all happened so fast.
This^^, Broner drop both arms like that a lot when he is about to fire off a check hook. Also this is in slow mo, in real time it doesn't look that blatant.
He thought it was a jab to the body. See him drop both to his ribs? Maidana ducked low like he was going to the body, then whipped it up top faster than Broner could react.
Mares fell for the same thing against Jhonny.
But in boxing you dont protect your body by dropping your gloves down like that.

What a difference slow motion makes then. nothing about the way that arm torqued back left said jab. That's some bad mechanics on defense. completely abandoning his form to anticipate blocking a punch. I don't recall seeing a lapse that big in recent memory and it just looked unusual
Lol I love that gif.... Anyway, dumb thread. Broner thought Maidana was hooking the body, he underestimated Maidana's reach. All his yes men were telling him he was a defensive genius and that Maidana was slow as molasses. So Broner underestimated what Chino could do.
this He was trying to look flash by leaning back out of the way but Maidana's hook was too quick and Broner mistimed it and payed!
and this
That's not how you protect yourself from a body shot.
He was pulling his face back. Come on people, he's done this move a million times. he narrowly avoids getting hit and jumps back with a combo of his own.
He thought he had the speed and distance to avoid the punch from who he considered back then a slower and less skilled boxer.
Turns out he was wrong.

Broner though Maidana was going for the body. :dunce:
Exactly! Maidana had been going to the body earlier. He positioned himself low as if he were going to throw another body shot to get Broner to drop his hands. When he did, Maidana took it upstairs. Broner's position just before he got hit was his failed attempt to recover his guard after he realized he had been had. That's why he looked so vulnerable.

Are you serious! With Broner's ego!? He was trying to look flash by leaning back out of the way but Maidana's hook was too quick and Broner mistimed it and payed!

Nobody is stupid enough to take a dive over a 12 round beating.
He simply thought he was out of the way of the punch and was dazed from the previous shots and just got caught.
No dive, he just got flat out caught. Props to him for getting up and gathering himself after doing the bambi dance.
Maidana knows how to get to his man and his reach is longer than most people realize because of the way he fights.
It looks like Maidana (or Garcia) had done their homework on Broner - another thing I noticed was Maidana looping his overhand right really high, so it would go up and over ABs shoulder even when he tried to roll. It may have lost a little of it's force and placement coming in from the high angle, but it landed repeatedly and helped keep the initiative with Maidana.
Wrong perception.
Paulie had been pointing out throughout the fight that Chino was throwing that right hand as a feint to the body and then bringing it up which had AB lowering his arms to block it.
It was a perfect switch up by Chino which caught AB several times.
paulie was pretty fair doing the commentating but i find it funny that in round 2, paulie was saying they better stop the fight lmao!!
Your looking at this in slow motion, in realt time Broner didn't see this punch coming!!!
You really think Broner would take a dive with as egotistical as he is and the fact that he wanted folllow in Floyds footsteps. That 0 meant everything to him no matter how much he is trying to downplay it. He is hurtin about that loss.
The though of him taking a dive is RIDICULOUS!!!!!!!
this!! lol.. why would broner take a dive on purpose for??? this is a fight he needed to win!
