So, as we all know by now, David Haye had extensive surgery on his shoulder over the last couple of days and has been advised to retire after 23 years in the sport, amateur and pro.
For those of you who don't know, this guy has been plagued by injuries since his amateur days - something that kept him out of several international tournaments prior to him turning pro.
After he moved up to heavyweight, more or less everyone felt it was a breath of freshair to have an english speaking heavyweight with a knockout punch and a brass lip turning up, especially after he finished Bonin in a round and followed it up with a good performance vs Monte Barrett.
For all the promise and excitement, his heavyweight run has been a disappointment. From the promise of knocking out the Klitschko brothers, to the embarrassing fight against Audley Harrison - The guy failed to deliver.
We now have a new batch of exciting heavies, something we haven't had in a few years, in the fury's, pulev, joshua, wilder etc.
But is David Haye's retirement good or bad for the division? Are you glad to see the back of him? Would you have liked to see him fight on regularly?
What are your thoughts?
Haye is a fighter I dislike with a passion....besides Kermit Cintron, I can't think of one fighter I'd enjoy seeing KTFO more....well maybe Bute but my dude Froch scratched that itch for me and Pascal will cure the sport of the cancer
Back to the point....personal feelings aside, Haye was good for the division....he was charismatic and dude could fight a bit....from day one I KNEW he was barking at the wrong K2 bro....Vitali is the bro he had a better chance at beating....regardless of what the consensus says about the bros....Haye's strengths matched up better against Vitali's weaknesses than Wlad's.....Vitali is slower with his hands and feet than Wlad....I will forever believe Haye would've gave Big Vit hell....call me crazy, but I think the Scam Maker would've beaten Vit
Haye fought an extremely weak fight against both Wlad and Valuev. The only way he beats Vitali is if he's beyond shot, and I don't think he is that shot.
It's a good thing. Haye is a disgrace to the sport.
"I'll only fight a Klitschko" - Then makes a fight with Derek Chisora.
"I'm going to retire when i'm 30" - See above
He trash talked his way to a fight with Wlad, leapfrogging far more legitimate contenders, then proceeds to put on an embarrassing performance & clearly had no intention of coming to fight. Then blames his toe.
He also nearly ruined PPV in the UK with that farce with Audley Harrison.
He's a money grabbing scumbag who deep down, actually hates boxing & has complete contempt for his 'fans'.
Luckily he's more wooden than a spoon so i doubt we'll be seeing much of him in films.
Fast, talented power punchers who look like real atheletes and speak english in the heavyweight division are good for me. The thing that was wrong to me is not enough of him. I also didn't think the Klitschko fight was half as bad as they say. But I didn't buy that it was going to be some kind of brawl in the lead up either. I figured it'd be high speed chess and it was.

Well Lets See. Fury has fought some veterins and some undefeated prospects. Actually Fury fought a few of them as he gained experience moving up.
Chisora (when he was undefeated)
Pajkik (still a prospect)
Cunningham ( live fighter)
Kevin Johnson (Semi washed up old contender with blood still flowing)
Now Lets look at Wlad
Monte Barrett (semi washed up, but still had some blood flow)
Valuev (a complete joke who even a washed up Holyfield beat)
Ruiz (one foot in the grave)
Harrison (LOL)
Chisora (but only after getting beat multiple times before hand.)
When has Haye taken a risk at Heavy? Find a risky fighter besides WLAD for me. Even an undefeated prospect?
lol stop it..
Chisora might have been undefeated, but was it a better Chisora Fury fought? No. He was totally out of shape coming from the two Wlad withdrawels. Haye fought a motivated, tip top shape Chisora who came off good performances vs Vitali and Helenius.
Pajkic is a turd. Don't even try.
Cunningham is not a heavyweight, but a live fighter though coming off a good win against Adamek where he didn't get a decision. Doesn't change the fact that whilst Haye has been outweighed in every single one of his HW fights, Fury fought a guy who started at LHW and had 4-5 losses on his record to CWs.
How can you say Ruiz had one foot in the grave but say Johnson had some blood flowing? no way. Johnson threw about 100 punches in 12 rounds against Fury and was coming off a loss in Prizefighter against the mighty Tor Hamer. ffs, whereas Ruiz had won a final eliminator and was ranked #1 with the WBA.
Chisora Haye fought would have whooped the fat, unmotivated Chisora that Fury fought. And he's said that himself.
Haye also fought Bonin with only 1 loss, a European champion, a hard journeyman in Monte Barrett who'd never really been dominated like that - and he said Haye was the best he fought (along with Wlad).
It's not that Haye's resume is great, but his top 5 wins are better than Fury's top 5 wins. By quite a margin.
we dont know the extent of his injury tho. maybe it really is career ending. plus,,, he already retired once so his desire is already questionable
Boxers have shoulder injuries/operations all the time, he'll just need a lay off period to recover
As long as he believes he is better than the competition he will return. He can be 70% fit and still beat Fury IMO
He's better off getting is shoulder fixed now
I have no doubt in my mind he will fight again, he loves the money way too much
Hes not retiring
He'll be recovered within 6 months ready to fight Vitali or Fury
Way tooo much money to be made and he is still young

i understand purists *****ing that he didnt take on chagaev etc, but the fact is boxing NEEDS stars and an ex abercrombie model that ****ed kylie brings a bit of pizzazz back to the table!
#TEAMHAYEMAKER #YNWA
fury would have got ****ed up! cos of that it was good to see haye in the HW division. he brought entertainment and class too. he was better than alot of the other challengers but ppl hated on him just cos he's Black British!
he brought entertainment at time but class? hell no
haye will be missed,,, he brought excitement and was either love or hate him type fighter
haye vs fury
haye vs adamek
haye vs aerreola
haye vs stiverne
haye vs wilder
were all fights i had hoped to see,,,

David ''excuse maker'' Haye the so called ''saviour of the Heavyweight division'' has done more damage than the Klitschkos ever have.
He ducked Chagaev & several others like the plague.
Scheduled and pulled out of at least half a dozen fights.
Put on nothing but stinking performances with the exception of one & that was only because of Delboy forcing the fight.
Good riddance!

I really dont think its bad or good. he fought so infrequently anyway. the good part is at least we dont have to be let down anymore. it was always nerve racking not knowing if he was going to pull out or not. kinda the same way with vitali. those guys are just so damn injury prone. its a shame for them and us fans
David's "retirements" are often translatable into "prolonged rest whilst I consider my options" and I don't believe this is the last time he fights.
He does not want Fury right now, knows that the K brothers are so angry with him that they won't agree to his demands, so hence the semi-retirement.
But give David 18 months and a much-changed heavyweight scene and he'll be available to fight again and start banging the drum and revving up his PR machine.
Depending on your point of view it is either deeply cynical and tedious; or it is just a fighter managing his own career and playing the game with a ruthless approach and treating it purely and simply as a business.
Its sad we cant see him knocking out Fury and shut him up for good.
Fury is in serious need of an solid ass-whooping and Haye would have been the perfect guy to do it.
