i dont know about anyone else but i really enjoyed tysons special comments for the ward fight. the dynamic of kellerman, rjj, lampley and mike was really interesting to watch. im a little tired of mikes seemingly endless circus tour to grab a buck being on what it seems every talk show, starting new spin offs monthly im crazy blah blah im on drugs blah blah. but hearing tyson talk boxing is what he actually does best not being "crazy mike." hope to see him appear on a hbo card again.
That was very ignorant, Kellerman totally missed the fact that Tyson was pretty smart and elusive while being aggressive. He's not a knowledgeable guy, he's a layman who's there to hype fights and fighters for mainstream fans.
I actually think Kellerman is pretty good for a guy who's never been in the ring but I much prefer boxers or good trainors who have been there and done that and can relate to things that non boxers cant. they always make the best commentators even if theyre not always very articulate in bringing there points across
Max got to prove again he is still and always will be an immature boxing-dork with his "Hey Mike, you really like it when they mix it up, heh?? Yeah, heh??" Yeah, Max. Mike only likes guys who brawl and roughhouse. ::pat: He's just a big bad monster.

Mike Tyson did some commentating a long time ago too...Mike is more normal now
and has calmed down because he's not fighting anymore..Some guys train hard
to "destroy" their opponent and then can't turn off that mindset when the fight is
over....I also didn't think it was appropriate when he took a pop shot at Duran
in that documentary..especially when he quit in the second Holyfield fight and against
Kevin Mcbride.
what potshot?
I love Tyson... I can't find anything about the guy that I dislike. His commentating last night was no exception. I respect Roy but I would prefer Tyson in his position.

Back when Tyson was in his prime he was ringside and giving his thoughts on a Holyfield fight he was watching, and from then until now he's always been very knowledgeable and articulate when analyzing a fight.
I've got a feeling Roy will improve as time goes on. Hopefully he hangs onto this gig long enough to learn and get better at it because there are brief moments when he makes really insightful interesting points at important times of a fight
rj tends to ramble on incoherently too much. listening to him tends to annoy me. I always loved gil Clancy and many steward. they were awesome with a tremendous amount of knowledge with the sport. I think Tyson also has great potential
While I don't disdain RJJ in the way you do, I definitely thought Tyson was much more natural and consistently insightful. Every once in a while RJJ says something useful, though.

I think Tyson needs to project his voice a bit more, he was a bit quiet.. but he seemed to have some good insight.
Tyson was spot on with his commentary and he is very articulate however I think tyson is too big of a personality to be confined to hbo ringside commentary
Good point.
mikes a lot more insightful than that clown RJJ who can barely put 2 sentences together, wouldnt mind the guy working as a color commentator
Lol.. RJJ's laugh is annoying.. heh heh heh...
I thought Tyson was great. He was very thoughtful and (to my mind) basically spot on. I agree with others -- it was nice to see him operating in a boxing context where he seemed exceptionally at home and articulate.

And I suppose there's a sense of him coming home. He can appear on UFC stuff, he can appear on espn, showtime wherever but hbo championship boxing with lampley and merchant was where it all began. Mikes probably got a soft spot for lampley and hbo because he was literally a teenage kid when he started out on there
I thought it was cool last night to have Mike Tyson join Jim and Roy on the set until Jim told him to kick rocks. The Producer of HBO did't like it so much I guess.
