Yes he even says he cries because of Marquez in a HBO Q&A
What made you so emotional during the closing statements of the broadcast?
Jim Lampley says:
Because I have a lot of sympathy for Marquez because of the degree to he has lived in the shadow of other fighters. I've known him for more than 15 years and I know his frustration. I know how hard he's had to work to put that behind him and the risks he has taken to do so. If I showed emotion, it was because of the thrill I felt for him. He finally had a moment that put him front and center. He's waited a long time for that.
But but but Jim is a Pac nuthugger remember?
It sounded to me like he got emotional for Marquez, not Pacquiao. The whole tone of his speech was all pro-Marquez and how Marquez was "overshadowed" by Morales and Barerra and "For the bulk of his career he's been one of the great victims of the subjective cruelty of life" = Bad decisions.

Seeing two B-class fighters slug it out in the middle of the ring is what passes for excitement on HBO today. That is why they were so excited about Provodnikov-Alvarado and Lampley and Kellermen will come in their pants watching Pacquaio/Provodnikov fight in April 2014.
You obviously are a person who thinks that Floyd vs Alexander would be the greatest fight ever because they would skill fully throw punches that wouldn't hurt a fly.
lol remember when he cried when pac got Ko'ed. That was sad and all but damn man wait til the cameras are off to break down.

Lampley is probably the ATG boxing announcer. But I wouldn't mind seeing a changing of the guard sometime soon.
Used to be that if it wasn't Lampley commentating, I would be wishing it was. Now when he is, I tend to be wishing it was someone else.
Whoever does eventually replace him certainly won't hit the ground being as good as him, though. Those shoes are just too big to fill right off (if ever).
p.s. This has nothing to do with his tearing up at times. That emotion is kind of interesting to watch. Though I'm a cynic and wonder if it's genuine.
p.p.s. Yes, it does seem like he has the capability of being an obnoxious dick away from the mic.
B-rated, C-rated, or f*cking X-rated boxing fans want to see fights and what these two have given us in their trilogy is more than what many pugilists have given us in a life time.
Amen brother.

Motherfuker for all the things we talk about him he called his greatest fight that night great stuff! Great documentary!

Anyone got a link to that legendary nights? I can't find it on youtube.
lol where is this dirt coming from?
Lampley was once a good dude, but he uses drugs like cocaine (these are the rumors) and has become so obsessed with Politics he has become extreme with his views. He was dating some smoking hot miss California chick and apparently he back handed her when she smoked his weed or threw it away. But I don't know if thats true, I could see him getting pissed and shaking her hard, a lot of men do this to women who won't stop nagging or get aggressive yet they claim its abuse. You have to be careful with women today they will manipulate the system.

Jim Lampley Cops a Plea
HBO sportscaster Jim Lampley plead no contest today, to the charge of violating a restraining order on New Year's Eve, when cops responded to an altercation at his ex-fiancee's San Diego apartment.
Jim LampleyLampley was sentenced to three months probation and community service.
San Diego police arrested Lampley on January 2, after an alleged night of drinking and pot smoking. Candice Sanders later claimed he threw her against the wall of her apartment.
Lampley got involved with cocaine and hard drugs, he used to be a pretty clean cut family guy he was married to that news lady who was born with mangled fingers.
He married again recently. Lampley has been going through a midlife crisis.
He breaks down easy, most of the time he breaks down is when he talks about Manny Pacquiao an Pac's relationship with Roach. Lampley probaby cried in his hotel room after Pacman got knocked out.
You were not there and have no idea why he and his wife had an altercation. For all you know, she attacked him with a knife.
What would you do if that happened? My woman's getting jacked if she is hood enough to come at me with a knife.
She didn't attack him with a knife or else it would've been in the report. Bullying women is something Lampley has done more than once. Look up the history.
Anyway, cheers Mick and Arthur.
No no no, hell no. **** no to all of that. Lampley needs to stick around as long as Merchant. He's fantastic.
I don't agree, but hey agree to disagree..IMO Lamply has seen it all,and has lost the right perspective on the sport..He does not call fights right and throws off his commentating team..We need a guy in there who can appreciate boxing, and not always looking or trying to set up the next Ward Gatti fights..
Every fight is not going to be that,it does not mean that these fighters who are doing battle in the ring do not deserve credit..Which it seems like is Jim's frame of mind when he calls fights nowa days..Just my opinion..I'd like to see Jim call maybe another fight or two,and go off into the sun set..I would really love Gus to take his spot..
Lampley is so pathetic. Cries over men in the ring, yet is a wifebeater. Bizarre, misplaced sympathy he's got.

First of all great documentary. I was wondering how they'd retell a story told a million times but Gatti Ward lends itself because it's just so great. As to Jim Lampley crying, that's called passion. The dude genuinely loves the sport and the people involved in it. Anyone crying obscenities because a grown man sheds a tear recollecting one of the greatest rounds of boxing history is pretty insecure about themselves. They probably cried with Jim :bottle::bottle::bottle:
Also can we just get over the whole "HBO IS BIASED" because of course they are! They have certain fighters they pull for. They're investing money in these guys. Same crap goes on over in Showtime and even NBC. You guys need to do some reading on bias, plenty of psychology research in that department. If anything props to HBO for doing shows like fight game where they acknowledge the other stations and do free promotion for the good of the sport. :boxing:

I always loved when Larry and Jim commentated, it balanced the ship. One was overly emotional the other seemingly brash/frank. Either way it made for colorful commentating.
I like Lamply, and he called a great fight here..I just feel it might be time for HBO to start looking for a replacement(Gus Johnson anyone)..He's seen it all,it's time to start a new era in boxing..Lamply is great man,and had some great moments, but I believe it's time for a fresh perspective..
