I hear in the forums all the time that GGG doesn't have any solid wins. The arguement is made that he is only beating guys coming up in weight or 2nd tier guys. I think the only reason this is partly true is because the guy has trouble getting people to man up & take the God of War challenge. I would like to know who the fighters are out there that people consider legitimate wins for GGG?
GGG is the greatest fighter ever!
nah really I think he's legit and I'm not one to overhype a fighter.
I wish Chavez vs GGG would happen though. I would pay 75 for that.
There's no legit win for GGG. Those that hate him will continue to hate him regardless. He's a humble, light skinned foreign puncher. Those alone are grounds for hate on NSB.
When you start to see a pattern of Mayweather/Broner fans hating guys like GGG, Kovalev, Matthysse, Pacquiao, the K2 bros etc, it starts to make a little more sense because you know where the hate is coming from. There's a reason they trash guys like them but hype up guys like Russel Jr and the bums at the Mayweather club.
I can't believe i just read GGG going to 168 is comparable to Floyd going to 160..this is getting crazy
It's getting laughable, really.
But I'm going to be honest here, to have Mayweather crack my top 10 list, (which doesn't mean shit, by the way) a win over a legit MW, with no catch weight, would seal the deal.
I don't see it happening, though.
So browsing this thread this morning I still dont see a legit reason why GGG deserves a Mayweather fight.
The question asked by the TS was 'Who is a legitimate fight for GGG?', not; 'Is Golovkin a legitimate opponent for Floyd'
Believe it or not it's not particularly to do with Floyd at all. GGG mentioned that he'd like to fight Floyd someday in response to a question. He didn't even call him out or anything, but now every single thread that mentions Golovkin is being innundated with Floyd fans saying he doesn't deserve it. In fact very few of the GGG fans seem particularly interested in the fight, and this thread really isn't about Floyd at all, but about Golovkin and his career. GGG - FMJ is never gonna happen anyway, so I really don't understand the fuss.
The TS was asking who can or should Golovkin fight to earn himself some recognition. With the only credible MWs who might be considered significantly better than Macklin (Maravilla, Quillin and possibly Jr - if he doesn't stay at 168) unavailable, how does he prove his worth at 160?
Curiously, some people are saying on the one hand that he's no good 'cos he ain't fought anyone at 160 but simultaneously that he should therefore fight at 168 - which as a fairly small MW would imply that he actually is pretty good.
My personal feeling is that Murray (if he can get his visa sorted - which is apparently in the works) is about the best available right now, and as the mando hopefully this fight gets made early next year. After that he should push for Maravilla and the lineal. There are some noises that Sergio is looking south for at least his next fight, but I'm hoping HBO will be willing to put up enough $s to make staying at 160 worth it for Martinez.
If the Maravilla fight doesn't look like it's gonna get made in 2014, then I think Gena has little choice but to move up. 154 would in theory be doable, but with most of the biggest names at SHO he'd be unable to make the kind of impact that HBO are expecting of him (and besides which I believe he's more comfortable at MW despite walking lighter than many JMWs).
Assuming 168 then, who to fight? Ward has obviously been repeatedly mentioned, but I believe a Chavez / Rodriguez or even Froch fight first would make most sense, to establish his credibility at the higher weight. then possibly Ward later on in 2014.
So my ideal would be something like either:
Murray - Martinez - Ward
or
Chavez jr - Froch - Ward
Depending on whether the MW fights pan out.
Adonis Stevenson is one of those guys I percieve as being limited in the way some of GGG detractors view Golovkin. I just see Gennady being head and shoulders above Stevenson in his all around game I think he gets underappreciated. You have to earn your place with your resume and GGG just seems to be chomping at the bit to do so. His 2013 campaign consists of Rosado, Ishida, Macklin, & Stevens coming up. Stevens is that outside fringe contender that never gets a shot because he's high risk low reward. There's guys like this that hover around every division. JMW for example has a guy Roberto Garcia and nobody is wanting to get in there with him (Austin Trout actually considered taking the fight atleast when he was champ). These guys often get sidestepped. People know GGG is all about the fight. I think that type of win solidifies that he is willing to give a shot to a guy he is more accomplished then. Now if only karma works in his favor and this Martinez guy will do the same! Tune up in April and bring it on in September! :boxing:
if GGG whoops Andre Ward then what will his reward be? Quackweather will turn tail and hide. He will have the fear in his heart like Sergio & Pac gave him. He is only now starting to walk around with some confidence about Martinez now that he is a kneeless 38 year old on a long layoff
If GGG beats ANdre Ward he will have done what floyd did when he beat Diego-beat someone he isn't favored against.
If you don't like floyd fine, but calling it hiding because he isn't fighting the 2nd or 3rd best guy 2 weight classes above him. That shows what kind of fan you are. WOuld that mean GGG is hiding from Adonis STevenson? Of course not.
Floyd just won the lineal JWW title. Maybe thats why a sergio fight is being called for now.
I feel truly bad for fans like you. As the power guys keep losing to the boxers and boxer/punchers you keep having to find a new fighter to suck off. Try understanding the sport beyond brutal KO's.
If you want to see floyd lose, cool. If youre still upset tha manny got dismissed, get over it. But at be a boxing fan that applies equal standards to fighters. If you can't, be man enough to admit the guy you hate is the best.
You are actually a sensible boxing fan so you should be able to see the point some fans are making.
The argument for floyd moving up to MW is the chance at the lineal title. GGG doesn't have that. The other reason to move up to MW would be for a huge payday, GGG doesn't provide that.
Since posters like you know this, you and the non floyd fans attempt to change the narrative and make it about floyd challenging himself against a heavier opponent with power who likely could beat him. Ok, cool.
SO floyd fans apply this same argument you are making above to GGG. If he is as great as you say, and you think he can beat floyd so easily (which is a valid assumption) then why not have him go up and fight Andre Ward or Carl froch for the challenge. Because you have no valid answer you again try to change the narrative again to make it floyd fans don't want to see him lose.
Other than your belief that GGG likely beats floyd, what other reason is there for floyd to fight him? If the prospect of losing is the only standard for this fight, how can you get upset if a floyd fan asks you to or applies that standard to GGG and calls for him to fight ward?

The funny thing is that all of these people who are saying Golovkin needs to move up to 168 to look for a challenge because none exist within his own division are the same dudes saying that Floyd shouldn't move to 160 for a similar challenge because it's not his fault if his division sucks.
If Golovkin moved up to 168 and sparked out a legit super middleweight like they (Floyd f*gs) want, they would just use that performance to discredit Golovkin as a future Mayweather opponet because "he beat up a super middleweight!"
Golovkin is roughly the same size as Alvarez.
Just admit it : You want Golovkin to move up so he'll be out of the "Mayweather lottery."
You are actually a sensible boxing fan so you should be able to see the point some fans are making.

Macklin was the only worthy title win. But maybe after Stevens we will get to see him in with contenders.
Agreed, but again that's the question that the TS puts...who are the contenders?
With Quillin on the wrong side of the Iron Curtain, Maravilla out (and certainly not looking at GGG for his return fight) and JCC jr possibly staying at 168 (we'll see), who is actually left at 160 who's significantly better than Macklin (who was dominated)?
I mean, yeah, there's Murray, the mando, and that might happen in early 2014, but he's hardly a level above Mack. Geale /Barker /Sturm who are all about level with Macklin for my money.
Rubio? Vera? Essentially, until (and if) Golovkin can get Maravilla or Junior in the ring, there is no real big fights left for him at 160. It would be nice to have the unifiers or even Geale or Sturm, but I think that HBO would have to put up a lot of $s for these, without them being of massive public interest.
It's a pity, but given the constrains, who do you think, at 160, GGG should fight? And is it reasonable to ask a fighter who so many are saying has 'fought nobody' at 160 to move up to 168 already. I, personally think it may be his only option if he wants to keep momentum going.
My ideal, however, would be Murray in spring then Maravilla later in the year - hopefully HBO will be willing to put up big money for Gena to get a shot at the lineal title.
U went on a rant about something u made up. It's a crappy division because none of the top 5 guys are fighting each other. It's a **** division
So, this year alone we had Geale - Barker, Martinez - Murray ,Golovkin - Macklin, Late last year, Martinez - JR, Sturm vs Geale. Golovkin - Murray is in the pipeline for next spring as a mando, also probably Barker - Sturm. The only top 5 guy who ain't so much in the mix is Quillin (through no fault of his own), and even he managed N'Dam N'Jikam.
Chavez Jrs looking like moving up and obviously Martinez is injured. The top fights are happening- as much as possible given injury etc, just, as I pointed out, 'cos there ain't so much US interest, they seem to slip below the radar.
Obviously there is some rubbish fights in there too, but that's the same in every division. And yeah, it's frustating that Quillin/GGG/Martinez can't happen right now, but you get injuries in every division too, and long lay-offs. MWs about the same as the other divisions in terms of quality of fights made, 'cept ain't so many guys there with big promotional backing - ie name recognition.
'Cos there's no 'superstars' with the possible exception of Maravilla (and GGG if HBO have their way), people who don't specifically follow the division seem to think nothing's happening.
And yeah, it's starting to look like GGG will have to head north to get recognition, but that in itself (as a guy who walks smaller than many JMWs) is a testament to his quality - assuming he can perform at 168, of course.
Saying the division is **** is just the same as shouting from the rooftops that you DKSAMW.
Forgive me - I am ranting a bit, I know, just MW as a whole is one of the divisions I've always liked and I feel it's being unfairly eclipsed by the big money campaigns at the coupla divisions below. I've always tended to follow 160 and up, and there's a lot of good things happening -especially between 160 and 175 (where there's also a lot of potential divisional mixing)- at the moment.
Some folk just seem to ignore anything under 122 (where I also freely admit almost total ignorance) and over 154 though - curiously, the divisions where the US and Mexico have the least depth.
Why do you think that MWs a 'crappy division'? Guess a division's only any good if it's got a few PPV superstars in it, yeah? Seems to me some fans from the US/Mexico tend to dismiss any division which isn't dominated by American (continental) fighters. Not really surprising, I guess, since the major US broadcasters tend to devote much less attention to these divisions (mainly 160 up), but this does not equate to them somehow being of lower quality.
Boxing is increasingly an international sport, and an Americocentric viewpoint of the sport merely betrays a degree of ignorance IMO. Just because the rest of the world doesn't have the same need for their boxers to be built up into 'stars' or 'celebrities', doesn't make the fighters any worse.
U went on a rant about something u made up. It's a crappy division because none of the top 5 guys are fighting each other. It's a **** division
No he was "overlooked" because he was seen as too much of a threat to Sturm so he was held back by universum for years. People pretend like he's berto or Gary russell :pat:
THe moment he was freed he came to the US and is wrecking havoc, still has fighters terrified
Overlooked as in being overlooked as a top p4p fighter. U don't get what u haven't proved. I already said it ain't his fault. But that don't change the fact. Hes got **** to prove.
I can't believe i just read GGG going to 168 is comparable to Floyd going to 160..this is getting crazy
Cuntweather will never be man enough to fight GGG. He knows it would be his funeral.
GGG is legit, not his fault people don't want to fight him, GGG's job is to beat the whoever they put in front of him, it's his promoters job to find the big name opponents. The hate for GGG doesn't suprise me, most of it is misguided frustration at his groupie fans.
