Peterson got a lot of notoriety because he apparently gave Floyd Mayweather some good work once upon a time....
Then he got his ass whooped by feather fisted Tim Bradley, got whooped by Victor Ortiz.... and just about scraped by Glass Jaw King Khan't eventhough he was on more testosterone than a pro body builder....
Then he comes off a suspension and fights Kendall Holt, who's nowhere near elite....
and from that.... all of sudden Mathysse beating him, makes Mathysse the best 140lber out there???
because of Peterson? atleast if it was Peterson fully-juiced.... I'm not buying it....
Even with his PED he is still an average boxer who needs all the advantages he could get to beat a chinny Khan, his best win is still probably a done Holt.
After he beat holt ppl were saying he was the best 140 lb fighter. Once he got ko ppl say he ain't all that but they saying it to really down play Matthysse and his hype. Garcia vs Matthysse will determine top dog at jr ww. End of story.
Peterson is a B+ fighter with huge cajones for the way he called out Lucas. But besides that, he has benefited from careful match making the way his brother has as well (check out Anthony peterson's record and you'll think he's ready for Broner). His biggest win is highly desputable and he was dropped by a very good, but featherfisted Timothy Bradley. It didn't surprise me that the hardest puncher in the division knocked him out in 3. He's chinny, and he isn't really hard to find. He's the 140 version of Alexander from a skill perspective. He's very good, but not elite because he's chinny but his cajones are too big for him to back down. He has heart like Josesito. Alexander and Judah are no better than Petey, but they were smart enough to not trade with Lucas, and they also benefited from fighting a slightly less aggressive Lucas.
He fought Bradley hard, he overcame a rough start to earn a draw against Ortiz, and he beat Khan. He's not special in any way, but he's tough, adaptable, and proven at a world class level.
And Matthysse slaughtered him in ridiculously easy fashion.
This,Peterson is a tough out for anyone..Matt's made him look like a fish out of water..Peterson is a good fighter,Matt's deserves major credit for not only beating Peterson, but destroying him..
Watch if Garcia does fight Lucas and gets dismantled then were goin to have a thread about him... I give Lamont credit for taking the fight against Lucas as so many lately have been hesitant to do. For the record I thought he got a gift draw against Ortiz and should have lost the khan fight.... But still a good fighter world class.
He's a very good, not near great fighter. The way and ease with which Matthysse handled him was stuning though. He's been in with world class fighters and no one has come close to beating him the Lucas did. :lol1:
I could make thread like this for Amir Khan, Garcia's best win, and it'd get just as many responses.
I don't dis like Peterson the guy fights everybody that they put in front of him but I thought he lost to Ortiz and Khan then Matthysse Ko's him in three rounds. Peterson does give a lot of 140 fighters tough fights Jr WW.
He's good enough to make me think he might've been able to beat Matthysse by the time fight night came around, put it that way. (and I thought Matthysse was "the man" at 140lbs leading up to that fight)

Bradley didn't whoop him and neither did Ortiz. Bradley hurt Peterson on e or twice in the fight but that was it. Most of the rounds were very competitive but Bradley was able to edge him out. The scores were wider than the way I saw the fight and I've watched it several times. And Ortiz hurt Pererson badly but if it hasn't been for those kd's Lamont would've got the decision easily. He out boxed and counter Ortiz well after the 3rd round.
It funny when these idiot make fights talking about fights they never even saw trying to discredit what Peterson and Matthysse have done. I don't know why I even respond to these threads.
Peterson's definitely a solid, world class fighter.
He's not an overly good fighter but definitely one of the best at 140.
And it's more to do with the way Matthysse dealt with him that was impressive.
Peterson has been in there with Bradley, Khan, Ortiz etc and the only person to deal with him in that fashion is Matthysse.
He proved his level that night.

Damn you beat me to this one. I was thinking the same thing earlier reading another thread where Lucas is supposed to destroy Garcia. I think he is hyped to hell cause of that win but these Lucas fans would be saying the same thing u said if Danny beat Lamont. Cant wait for this fight so Danny can give the haters more excuses AGAIN!
He is a complete scrub.
Probably journeyman level without his performance enhancing drugs.
I'm almost positive he was allowed to continue using the TRT. He is not the only boxer who legally supplements.
Lamont Peterson is an excellent fighter. His positive drug testing left a mark, but other than that you cant take away much from the guy, and this was only his second loss. Matthysse happens to be, by a broad margin, the #1 in the 140.
FerFAL
No longer a good fighter? He hasnt even had a comeback fight to judge him. So what type of moronic logic is that?

The point isn't that he got Ko'd and is no longer a good fighter.... it's that was he ever really any good???
His best victory was against Khan, and now we know he juiced during that period....
Have you ever seen Peterson fight? Does he look like a bum to you??? There, you have your answer.
