I re-watched the Mayweather-Judah fight earlier and it got me thinking about the whole resume discussion.
A lot of people talk about Floyd not facing Mosley, Cotto, and Margarito in their prime. I have heard fight hype, Floyd and his team and his most loyal followers talk about fights not happening b/c of Arum and when certain fighters leave Arum then fights get made. How much of this is true and much is it b/s coming from the Floyd camp?
I think you could make a case that Floyd's resume before he left Top Rank is better than after. He fought Genaro Hernandez, a young Manfredd even though he wasn't great but he was pretty hot at the time, an undefeated Corralles, fought Castillo twice, and a 28 year old Zab Judah. He also got at least 5 million in the Judah fight with over 15k in attendance for that fight and wasn't as well known then, remember he only had a little over 13k there for the Marquez fight. Obviously he made the right choice leaving Top Rank but its not like Top Rank didn't do pretty well for him either.
I would think Bob is responsible for Mayweather not fighting guys like Casamayor, Freitas or a Kostya Tszyu. I would have like to see Mayweather fight those guys.
He fought Chico and Chico fought Freitas and Casa. Mayweather fought Zab who fought Tszyu. All I am saying it would have been cool to see these fights but for some reason these fights just didn't happen. Bob Arum could have made Mayweather vs Margarito or Mayweather vs Cotto but those fights didn't happen either. Not all the blame just goes on Arum.
Bob Arum never really made big Money with Mayweather like he did with Pac,Cotto or Margarito. Mayweather contract was up so Al Haymon and Floyd jumped ship and went to GBP. Thats way there is so much bad blood between Arum and Mayweather.
Sure didn't...he could have fought those guys that you mentioned and he still would not have earned the money that he has made since he fought Oscar...folks miss that point.
Fact is Floyd earned his stripes and all the guys people talk about floyd not fighting didn't want to fight Floyd when he was high risk low reward. Every fighter does this only exception was Oscar that's why I respect him.
Folks miss that, too...Why didn't those guys fight him before 2003?
You trying to act like Margarito wasnt hot at the time. A lot hotter than Victor Ortiz or the Ghost.
Am I forgetting something here, wasn't Margarito the guy cheating? Hot are not it was a good choice not fighting that cheating mofo!
Why do folks keep skipping, hopping, and tip toeing around the fact that Floyd gave Castillo an immediate rematch and proved who's the best in that division.
What, all of a sudden Castillo was a bum after the rematch?

Floyd said since March of 2010 he wasn't agreeing to 50/50 anymore so that Costas interview wasn't anything new. He said if he outsold Manny after the Clottey vs Shane 1.4mil-700K that first deal was off the table which meant no 50/50 or 14 day cut-off. It doesn't take genius to figure out he was going to say no to 50-50 and he went for throat when Manny said he would take a less of a cut after Marquez 3. Is it wrong for him to take all the PPV cut yeah it is should it been 50/50 yeah at one point it was. I personally think neither of them wanted the fight at the same time.
Floyd said even in 2009 "Everyone knows that I will NOT accept 50/50 deal" but since the testing roadblock took on a life of its own, it was only brought up before the Floyd vs Cotto deal.
Manny made an effort by accepting Floyd's demands but then Floyd would come up with new ones ....
Smaller cut doesn't mean "Manny will get 0 PPV money" ... don't be gullible
Manny said yes on several occasions. Floyd fans would say "but he only said it to a reporter". So now when Manny even puts it on his official website "that's your source? Floyd fans are just too much!
The important part in all this is that it was confirmed by Floyd when he said "NO, I can't, I can't afford less .....!" Go check out Costas interview and many many others ... That is all that counts.
... but thanks for the laugh!

Manny official webite is your source that's all that needs to be said and he also said before he wanted 50/50 he would take a smaller cut but we will just forget that also.

Didn't someone just say that Floyd could have fought Shane in 2007 but both were able to set that aside so that Floyd could fight Oscar? 2006 couldn't work unless Floyd's fight after Judah would be against Shane...What was Mosley doing in 2006? Knocking Vargas around from one part of the ring to the other...
This is why I go back to my original point. You don't see Pac being matched up with Maidana, Alexander, Guerrero, Ortiz, Berto, et cetera...So why would you think they would work together for Floyd-Pac?
In 2007, Mosley was interviewed and said "Floyd is growing feathers". Floyd said "I don't want to fight Mosley. Floyd said that on numerous occasions even in 2009.
Floyd and Manny are bigger than their promoters. Yes, the promoters can put a monkey wrench to stall the fight but at one point or another, the fighters will put a stand and say "Yes". Again, Manny said yes I will be ready for Floyd in May if Floyd agrees to 50/50 .... Floyd said NO! This had NOTHING to do with the promoters. If Floyd said YES, the promoters could NOT get in the way at that point.
In 2006, if Floyd wanted Mosley badly enough, he could have skipped fighting Baldmir in November and fought Mosley in December or early 2007. Floyd said NO! Mosley then went on to fight in February 2007
All those excuses you brought up was squashed when Manny said I will be ready and willing to fight in May .... as long as Floyd is OK with 50/50. You need to stop believing what Floyd fans are spoon feeding you because its NOT good for your health.
Again, Manny said it and also placed it in his official website. Floyd said NO!!!
Try again!

Mosley tried between 2006-2009 ... there are interviews where FLoyd says NO! Can't blame promoters!

Floyd and PAC had agreed on most terms. Arum doesn't want his former fighters who left him to make all that money. Oscar would get paid and so would Floyd. Plus arum would be taking a chance of losing his money maker because of them
This is why I go back to my original point. You don't see Pac being matched up with Maidana, Alexander, Guerrero, Ortiz, Berto, et cetera...So why would you think they would work together for Floyd-Pac?
I guess we are to forget the 3 stitches over Manny eye that wouldn't heal between November and May from the Marquez 3 fight. Or the 25k outdoor stadium just off the strip that needed to be built(I was in Vegas for the Guerrero fight it's not done yet). Or Agreeing to a expiring offer after your position at the table wanned. Are we still waiting for word from Joe Jackson or those Sheiks in Dubai also and where Don King I thought they could get the fight done in five minutes.

Wrong!
After all those things that you pointed out about Arum, Manny stated clearly that he would be willing to fight on Floyd's specified date IF Floyd agrees to 50/50 (or something close to that).
It was also on Manny's official website.
Actually even Arum said at the end, OK let's do it in May but Floyd would have to get his own people to guarantee his side.
Floyd, who is the common denominator said NO, I want all PPV money. Which was crazy when you think about who Manny was for boxing for several years .... Manny was always #1 or #2 ....... yet was supposed to agree to 0 PPV money? If Manny agreed to that, he would essentially be getting close to his regular pay when you take out who he would have to pay out after. Maybe a bit more but that doesn't make any sense for what was estimated to be the biggest fight in a while and the biggest $$$ fight ever.
So, what Floyd was saying when he wanted all PPV money was , "I DON'T WANT TO FIGHT MANNY"

Roach, Ariza, and pac's adviser all are on record saying it was arum that was stopping the fight. Remember him saying he didnt have time to build an outdoor stadium? Floyd and PAC had agreed on most terms. Arum doesn't want his former fighters who left him to make all that money. Oscar would get paid and so would Floyd. Plus arum would be taking a chance of losing his money maker because of them

Sorry I didn't fully explain what my aim was...
I'll put it like this. GBP guys and Top Rank guys don't fight each other. This is known.
However, both stables can make matches with any other promotional company (DiBella, Shaw, Don King, etc.)...Sergio vs. little Chavez was TR/DiBella co-promotion and that Manny/Oscar fight was before Manny was completely under Top Rank...
Manny/JMM were under GBP for their first two fights and then that 3rd one didn't come until over three years later...
All can and will to make money. Yes its more difficult with some promoters and is well known as you said .... but some fights can still be made. If you take out the negotiating roadblocks imposed, that fight between Manny vs Floyd would have been made, as an example.
Guys like P Williams and Martinez are not under TR. They too couldn't get a fight with Floyd even though they said that they are willing to come down in weight.
Mosley tried between 2006-2009 ... there are interviews where FLoyd says NO! Can't blame promoters!
Let's face it, the common denominator is NOT TR it's FLOYD!!!
Dont ever mention a bum like Margarito in the same sentence with Ali, Frazier, and Foreman ever again. When was Floyd suspodes to fight a prime Mosley? Shane moved up 2 divisions to fight Oscar. So is Floyd suspodes to follow him from 130 to 147?
lol .... Floyd fans like them excuses!
Well, your Floyd was worried about Margarito so if I follow your comment then I shouldn't ever include Floyd in that sentence because they fought them wars, Floyd admittedly avoids them!!!
As for Mosley, I should have said a "younger" version of himself in 2006 - 2009 ... but Floyd waited until mid-2010 to do that when he himself admitted that Mosley is now OLD!
The point was that those other fighters, like Ali, Frazier, Norton and Foreman were always out there looking to fight the best AND DID. So if a fight doesn't get made, you can't say anything bad about them.
YES Margarito, Mosley and Cotto did the same (they look out to fight the best) ..... Floyd admits that he does NOT do that. So for this topic Margarito SHOULD be named with the Fraziers but NEVER EVER Floyd ..... and by looking at what (ie quality opponents) is out there today .... its way too late for Floyd now. Man, fighters such as Larry Holmes, RJJ would have loved to have in their era more quality opponents to improve on their resume but didn't have that luck .... Floyd did but is too busy going on long vacations to avoid them!
Arum has let his guys fight outside his stable.
Examples:
Chavez Jr fought Sergio Martinez.
Manny fought Mr GB himself ..... Oscar Dela Hoya.
Look I'm not saying that its Arum's first choice to fight out when he has plenty inside his stable BUT all promoters are like that ..... BUT like I said before, Floyd was initially with Arum. So why was it hard for Floyd ONLY?
Sorry I didn't fully explain what my aim was...

Are you new to the sport?
Ali lost to Frazier.
Ali lost to Norton
Frazier lost to Foreman.
Norton lost to Foreman.
Ali beat Foreman.
BUT they all rematched and engaged in further wars instead of making silly arguments like you just did. If everyone used your logic, the above fights that I just mentioned, wouldn't have all taken place because Ali had lost to the guy that got creamed by Foreman.
Same with Cotto, Mosley, Margarito, ..... they all fought in wars ..... someone has to lose but Floyd preferred to go on a long vacation.
So either your hero Floyd fights these fighters when it counts and gets credit or as Floyd did, fights them AFTER they had been in wars or AFTER they are clearly out of their prime or BEFORE they are ready for prime time.
He is the only guy that has been able to do that. Nobody (especially those that are/were in GBP) can do the same thing...
