Imo its Ali beating foreman. He was faded and supposed to be ko'd by prime atg puncher in foreman.
Other candidates i think are:
Duran beating Leonard
Louis over schmeling
Clay over liston
Leonard over hearns
What do you think??
No...just No.
A great win is a 40-0(37 Kos) opponent Who just destroyed the world champ in less than 2 rounds. Compare that to....Tommy Burns.
Its about quality not historical wishy washy stuff.
Well that was not described in the OP, but if that's the case lets add some originality to this thread. I'll say Harry Greb in his first fight over Gene Tunney.

can do no better...
From my lifetime, Rumble in the Jungle and Douglas over Tyson. Benn stopping McClellan.
The bold should never be discussed as the greatest win for boxing. If anything, it was the worst.
Cant believe not a single person has mentioned Jack Johnson beating Tommy Burns to become the forst black heavyweight champion. While not his best win it is surely his single greatest victory breaking down the color barrier. If this fight were to have never happened we may not have gotten to see Louis or Ali, history would have certainly been different.

- 37 year old Jack Britton with around 400 career fights beating a prime Benny Leonard in 1922.
Leonard had to move up a weight class for this bout and the fight was only stopped when Britton was down on one knee and Benny tapped him in the face.
Hardly conclusive IMO and not a candidate for one of the greatest wins of all time, in my humble opinion.
I still don't understand how Louis - Schmeling II is a bigger win then Schmeling - Louis I, surely a win over a slightly green Joe ****ing Louis is better then a win over a downhill Schmeling, yes I know the size of the event and it's significance but on paper, Schmeling was the only man to beat a close too prime Joe ****ing Louis, that is incredible and surely deserves too be up there more then Louis - Schmeling ?, unless I've got this all wrong.
people are probably looking at the term "greatest" as meaning "most culturally significant."
that was america VS the nazis. along those lines they've got a point.
now, in resume terms, roberto duran UD ray leonard is probably the greatest win ever.

I guess it depends on how you want to define "greatest win". I agree that it is one of the most significant bouts to have taken place, no sure if it had the same surprise element as many others. But then again, that probably doesn't matter.

Clay over Liston is the biggest win IMO. Foreman comes in close. Holyfield over Tyson is another. Foreman over Frazier, Foreman over Moorer are others to note.
