I know the majority of you are going to say "well an elite boxer needs to have each of these in order to be the best.." but I'm talking the one true attribute that separates these mere men into fierce athletes.
Skills pay the bills?
Pressure busts pipes?
A fighter w/out a jab, or lateral movement
is a doomed fighter.
Pt blank. Don't move your head, you're dead.
if you don't work your jab, you're also asking for a early exit!

You can win fights being average in every other area but having excellent stamina and clowning your opponent in the later rounds.
I can't think of anything else that qualifies. There are average guys on the street who can't fight at all and have tons of raw power. "Skill" is simply too general and means different things depending on your style. If a chin is your only strength, you're going to have a bad life after boxing. Speed depends entirely on stamina after the first round.
You could honestly be borderline retarded, totally distracted in life, featherfisted, and still make a career in boxing if you had excellent stamina and could consistently creep up on exhausted opponents. It's the most exhausting thing I've done and I'm into endurance mountain climbing. Lots of gym warriors who look the part for 1 minute then fall to pieces as exhaustion sets in.
speed is the best thing a guy can have going for him
you're supposed to hit and not get hit in the ring
without much skill, power, smarts, etc, you can still get it done with speed
You can't pick one thing in boxing...but if I had to then as Sergio Martinez said during the 24/7 series before the Chavez fight...stamina is everything in boxing. The tired boxer is in terrible trouble against the boxer who has lots of energy left in the tank. 9 out of 10 times the tired boxer is going to lose.
speed, timing, power and the rest of the REAL attributes have taken a back seat in this new boxing world...now the most important attributes are drawing power, PPV numbers, twitter and other forms of marketing and promotion
I answered "power" because it can change any fight at any time but we all know the real answer is "heart" which wasn't on the list of choices. Will and heart are not the same. You can break a fighter's will but heart will get you through those dark moments that every fighter faces. SEE Arturo Gatti...:boxing:
:pat:
Heart/Will/Determination are all the same thing.
I went with chin, obviously just having a good chin won't get you far, but if you have a weak chin, you will lose fights, even if you are elite in every other area.
You can have all the heart and will in the world but if you don't have a chin it won't help you much. Eg Amir Khan.
Almost all of the greats had at least good chins.
If you have the will to win, you'll have the will to train hard to give you the cardio, to make you punch harder than your opponent while being faster in the later rounds, you'll be able to obtain knowledge through the fight because your brain will be firing faster, your chin will hold up better, and you'll fight the fight you want. All of your skills will be put to use. That's why will is the most important.
Will/heart you will be tested in this game. You can have all the other attributes you've listed, how well you deal with adversity is what will get you to the next level.
Exhibit A: Victor Ortiz.
Floyd.
He has all of the above. Not only has he not lost a fight, he hasn't been knocked down, not even once (officially). That's your answer.
Spectacular nuthugging there mate...
