Was his ability to adjust. In the first two rounds he fought Rees in the middle of the ring. He blocked, parried, and rolled most of the shots but a few landed during their various exchanges. However in the third round he ADJUSTED by doing something that seems pretty simple but took a high ring IQ and a calm head to do....he took one step back. Now Rees (who's handspeed was pretty damn good I must say) who was able to punch WITH Adrien and throw combinatons to land some of his own shots in the first two rounds, had to reach to land anything. Once he reached he got hit with hard counters. Once he got his with hard counters he could no longer throw combintions. Once he was no longer able to throw combinations he was broken down by Adrien's power and drowned. Watch from the 2nd to the start of the 3rd and you will see exactly what I mean. Masterful stuff.
i think that's a much more fair comparison than it is to compare him to a younger floyd.
young floyd's hands were insanely fast. his reflexes were as good as it gets. he used his legs. broner is a sharpshooter. he's an offensive fighter with a steady tempo. floyd is a steady defensive fighter. broner looks to set his feet and pick your shots off and land his own gas. broner's got power. that's what he's about.
yup, im not sure who he best compares to. winky wright in a lot of ways but winky wasnt a power guy. some james toney too, because james toney was kinda heavy footed as well but not quite. broner is more a pressure fighter than a boxer. he does all the things a pressure fighter typically does without taking much of any punishment for it and at times, when he chooses, he can sharpshoot and box. but he excells at breaking ppl down with the pressure of his offense and the trickiness of his defensive game, its quite a skill set thats unique to him rite now.
Naw its not that either. He fights nothing like Floyd did at 23. Broner actually fights like a past prime Floyd.

I'm comparing him to other good defensive fighters. Broner's gets hit as much as Tim Bradley or Carlos Molina or Erislandy Lara or Anselmo Moreno, and they are all fighting better fighters than Broner has.
I'm not calling Broner's defense sh*t. But his openness to right hands and body shots is something to keep in mind when his competition improves.
U say he gets hit as much as these guys, sure but moreno, Lara and Molina are all more defensive minded than Broner. So even if, as u say, he gets hit more, he fights with a more aggressive style, its to be expected. At the end of the day it's quite exemplary for a fighter of his age esp in this day and age.

Good points. Its almost the same problem Gamboa has. Taking unnecessary shots in a fight could cost you rounds in a close fight or could make a fight tougher than it should be. He still has room for improvement.
Yeah, that would explain it. And I think we'll see Broner get hit a lot when he gets in the ring with better fighters. Average fighters are tagging him more than they should, and its something to keep in mind when his opposition improves.
his defense is pretty damn good for a young fighter who is aggressive and has power, IMO. his chin looks solid, too, for what we know of it so far.
he has to stop showboating when he gets hit. shaking his head only lets the crowd and the judges know that contact was made.
Naw its not that either. He fights nothing like Floyd did at 23. Broner actually fights like a past prime Floyd.
I'm not even going to bother comparing him to Mayweather, let alone 23 year old Mayweather who was a damn phenom. I'm just comparing Broner to other good defensive fighters.
He has good defense. Who are u comparing him to? I ask once again. Because his d is better than 95% of the top guys out there including guys like Sergio and nonito donaire. So like who? Floyd? Vlad mebbe. B hop? Ward? Who else?

To be honest, Broner probably get's his less than Mayweather did when he was 23.
Obviously Mayweather fought a lot better fighters so that's probably the reason why.
It only really Baldomir and onwards where Mayweather barely got his at all in a fight.
And you can really tell the people who only started following Boxing during that time, which I think is why Mayweather has so many haters :lol1: Baldomir and Oscar, probably his 2 dullest fights back to back whilst also being the time where he was at his hottest to a casual audience :lol1: But that's just a theory.

To add, he threw his punches with much more intention/conviction. The man didn't fight like a computer fighter unlike another certain P4P....
This. Im not a big Bronner fan (yet) but his attitude is just really off putting . If it wasn't the the amount of skill and the thought that we could be watching a future star . His fight style doesn't make it boring like pbf but shows a somewhat willingness to exchange. But that could change if he fights a monster puncher

i was going to hover, but was compelled to enter the thread by an unseen and powerful force.
i think he had some issues with rees height, if that makes any sense. it's an advantage to be tall, but it's still going to be odd initially when you fight a guy so short. he was at a disadvantage, was rees, but it still took broner off guard.
he figured out how to use his height and be effective against a guy who was that short, essentially. that was his adjustment.

Grand observation Skills mah homie. Not only the slight step back to draw him in but the stiff arm to steady and time the upperbody movement of Rees. Mid-round adjustment with NO corner help. Very impressed with Broner's ring IQ.
This reminds me of Mayweather-Ortiz round 4 where people thought Ortiz was coming on, the only decent punch Ortiz landed was a right hook which prompt Mayweather to back into the ropes, and guess what, Mayweather rolled with that punch as well. Broner is rolling with the punches, some of the punches are half blocked, rarely do you see his head snap back, the only punch he's shown susceptibility to is the jab which is normal.
I didn't want to mention this because it's common sense, but I see many don't have that on here, also it hasn't been mentioned, when someone of Rees' height is able to get inside against a taller fighter, it's hard to tell when the overhand right is coming, Rees did this against Broner but even then he was only able to land a few, which again Broner rolled. Whatever Rees displayed that night, that doesn't tell me anything about how Matthysse, Rios or Garcia would do against him.
He gets hit a lot in comparison to who? Floyd? Who else? I'll wait. I'm tired of hearing this. He gets hit rarely cleanly and he still shows great poise and focus.
This is what I'm saying. I want to know who doesn't get hit in a fight beside Floyd. And it's obvious he has been goIng for the KO in his fights. He is still building his name and people want to see knockouts. This is my concern for broner though. I think he may always be compared to Floyd.

You cannot say he doesn't get hit, but there's a reason for that. I think Broner and his people have made a conscious decision to go for the KO in their fights. He likes to fight on the inside. Now I'm not saying he can't move and fight from the outside but we haven't seen that yet.
People make the comparisons to Floyd, I don't see it outside of the same Philly shell he uses. Floyd's feet were 1000 times better.
I just see Broner at 140 not being able to do what he is doing against smaller guys. Like I said, no disrespect to Reese but he was a midget for that weight. Broner against the big punchers at 140 is a completely different story.
Who cares if he gets hit a lot? If he doesn't get hit then people would claim he has a weak chin or he is boring. Can boxing fans actually be pleased at all? Seems we whine a lot about every damn thing.

Exactly. Nailed it.
