Mikey Garcia ain't ****

Prospect? Rushed too quickly? What the ****! The guy has been a pro for six goddamned years and has had 30 pro fights! He's a freakin veteran now! Top prospects get title fights within 1-2 years classically. Really good ones even earlier sometimes. Any more than 3 years for a good prospect with a solid amateur background is too long. Garcia has been a fighting as a pro for 6 years and still hasn't even had a title fight or big fight of any significance. He's been moved too slowly. It's well beyond time, at 24 with 30 fights over six years to be stepping it up. Well past it. Many young prospects aren't given enough fights early. Someone mentioned Dulorme as being rushed along too quickly, but he'd been a pro for four years. 16 fights over 4 years for an 18-22 year old prospect! that is a disgrace. His problem was his management didn't get him enough fights. In his second year he only fought three times against complete cans. Thats what a 30 year old, champion veteran should be doing who has stopped learning and just needs to keep sharp. That's not helping him at all. It's no wonder he lost, he wouldn't have gained anything near the experience he needed to get through a fight with Abregu. Managers don't know how to move prospects anymore. Guys like Ward, Mayweather etc were moved well. Steadily pushed into harder fights, learning and being tested each time out, fighting different styles and doing it all quickly while they're still learning very fast at a young age. i don't agree with this. the best of the best might be ready at that stage, but unless these guys start out in long fights with tough guys they won't be ready for title shots then. HW, for instance, take years to fill out.

what I don't like is going away from being patient and being a counter puncher maybe to try an appeal to the crowd more I guess I like him better when he is patient and countering, last night I felt he tried to go for "EXCITEMENT" I feel also that he is being "RUSHED ALONG IN HIS DEVELOPMENT", fans are quick to tell prospects to "Step Up Competition" but when they do it too soon and get their a$$ kicked fans are the first to jump off that fighter Bandwagon I think Garcia is ready but I am not sure how good he is just yet...Salido is the type of guy his pressure could be costly and rattle and eventually BREAK a young fighter...especially if Mikey Garcia can't hurt him enough to keep Salido off of him Prospect? Garcia is fundamentally sound, not overly eye catching but he will be consistent throughout the fight where as other guys are good for a few rounds until they tire out and lose their form or defense. He is like the tortoise who gets outpaced in the beginning of the race but ends up winning in the long run. Salido would make it a tough affair but I say it's a close fight.

Is it just me or Mikey never throws body shots?

What was his weight on fight night vs Barros? Did they show it? he was 140 and Barros was 145

Mikey Garcia is a solid fighter. He takes his time but he can hit and has good boxing skills

Mikey didn't impress me too much, but then again he was fighting a very defensive fighter which can make most fighter look bad. Salido will be a real test.

I think he's overrated too. I don't know if it'll be Salido, but anyone would go movement who can use angles against him, he'll get beat down. He's way too easy to hit, too slow of a starter, and doesn't do anything particularly well. I'm also surprised no one talks crap about Mikey fighting at 126. The guy comes into the ring as a JWW/WW. But all you hear about is Donaire and Broner fighting small guys. Garcia isn't even near his natural weight class either. What was his weight on fight night vs Barros? Did they show it?

I like watching M.Garcia. Best way to discribe him is that he's like a ticking time bomb. Just needs to put more work in, instead of waiting for the one perfect punch, and it hasn't failed him yet .

Very crisp punching and his technique is very tight. I honestly can't pick between him and Salido right now.

There's no convincing...you are just simply wrong if you think Lopez has a bad chin. Guy gets lit up with bomb after bomb and it takes a while before he starts getting shook up. Very few fighters in the sport can stand up to the amount of punishment that Lopez takes for as long as he takes it. It's like saying Margarito doesn't have a great chin cause Mosley took him out...Marg ate BOMBS for 8 rounds, that fight was yet another testament to his chin. You comparing Margarito's chin to JuanMa's chin? Please tell me you're not Concepción dropped him and Rafa Marquez had him on queer street, thanks to Weeks JuanMa survived.

Yes, I notice many people on here like him. However, I really don't know what people see in him. I wish him the best in his career. I must admit that I will be rooting for Salido when they meet up since Salido has attributes that are hard not to like. With respect to Garcia, he is too patient and he seems to do everything basic. Like I said, I don't understand what people see in him.

i only saw the first few rounds in their entirety, then i switched to showtime and only watched when there was a break in their boxing. i caught the stoppage, though, luckily enough. i didn't see garcia stunned when i was watching, but that's probably because i missed big portions of the middle rounds i'm going to watch the fight in it's entirety and get a better gauge before i comment further on last night's performance . I think your opinion about Garcia will remain the same if not have more suspicions of him. Watch it. :headbang:

I still don't know how he survived the Mtagwa fight. i think he was having some troubles with 122 at that point as well. that was a crazy fight. my stream was sh#t, but when i saw it on youtube i was shocked at how horrible his eyes looked. he had an interview after the fight and he almost went out again. crazy

After the Marquez, I knew JuanMa's chin was weak, I made a thread about Him getting retired because of it, this was before the Salido fight and people thought I was crazy.
