Dude is the real deal.
He signed to fight Kirkland (which is what many of yall swore he would never do) and Kirkland pussied out. Then he signed to fight Williams, an extremely tough opponent and unfortunately Williams had his accident and that was off. Lastly there was Ortiz, he got his jaw broken and that was the end of that.
That's 3 tough challenges he dared to take so where is this about him being a duck stem from? Yeah Lopez wasn't the best choice but he was the guy who broke the guy he was supposed to fight's jaw.
And coming from a huge Floyd fan, if he isn't on his A game when they fight, Alvarez could beat him handily. I just can't imagine Mayweather dominating Saul, the kid is too strong, fast, and smooth with the combinations.
And I agree with Larry's statement that Saul would KO Manny at 154.
He's the future of boxing.

He wanted Kirkland after Molina hugged him, not after Angulo got stopped in his backyard. He wanted PWill after Lara beat him and Kirkland backed out coming off surgery.
Why didn't he want to sign for Lara after he beat Hearns?
Who was Lara beat at 154? Hernandez. :lol1:
What about Vanes? Ouma? :lol1:
Trout? Rodriguez. :lol1:
Cotto? One legged pillow fisted Foreman. Zombie Mayorga. And even more zombie Margarito. :lol1:
Stop acting like the rest of 154 is facing stellar competition. The kid is only 22, he's coming along pretty fast if you ask me. Dulorme received alot of criticism for moving too fast so I don't want to see any doulbe standards.
The dude was/is ready to fight: Kirkland, Williams, Ortiz, Cotto, Mayweather, Martinez and Pacquiao.
Haters please shut the f*ck up.
I give him a pass on Lopez because he was 4th choice for the fight. Alvarez can't be blamed for Kirkland being an idiot, Williams' awful accident or Ortiz getting his jaw broken.
He needs to fight a legit 154 fighter next. It should really be a unification.
i am not new to boxing
i think many of us are very aware of what the business plan is for canelo.
its not a big secret that alludes most of us
make the easiest title defenses, fight marquee faded names (margarito/mayorga stand by) and then cash him out against cotto, floyd, or pac and hope he is ready for them when he faces them or that they are past it enough for him to win
for that very reason since its obvious what canelo's promoters are doing is the reason why more and more boxing fans are being critical of canelo he is not fighting tough comp. which is quite shameful with the number of worthy contender at 154
lets cut to the chase. if canelo was that good a match with bundrage, d.rodriguez, lara, kirkland, vanes, angulo, molina would have been done already because there would be no risk in those match ups but he is not that good and from what you say his promoters pick the matches
which means that his promoters have no confidence in his abilities. which in return brings back into their strategy which is match canelo soft and cash him out
you and i reconize what golden boy is doing in canelo career but you instead defend him on that
but for me the way they are handling canelo is the very source of my criticism
Spot on, good post
At first I gave him the benefit of the doubt with three falling out, but in hindsight, K9 would've signed for that fight in a heartbeat. He needs to fight a legit top fighter next fight. Any one of his three choices would be fine with me.
chava sanchez and wilfred benitez
mike tyson, too.
but i agree, canelo is a very solid fighter with a ton of promise. the "hate" comes from the fact that the guys here don't understand boxing because this is the first generation of fighters they've seen. boxing IS matchmaking.

yeah we'll see where Lara and Vanes are in two years
probably back to driving cabs and making tacos for my nephews party! haha
Lara and Vanes have potential just like Canelo does. However, there's not nearly as much hype surrounding them as Canelo has.
It's easy to look like "the real deal" and "the future of boxing" when the deck is stacked in his favor. We'll see where he is in two years.

What other fanbase has to resort to trying to convince people their fighter deserves credit for fights they didn't actually fight? Wake me up when he actually fights someone.
And Ortiz would have sucked. Another welterweight that Alvarez could pound in the face of.
Let the hate continue. Let it build up to an all time high. It will make it that much more exciting when Canelo does finally fight someone we will all give him credit for beating and wins.
If anybody actually think cotto can beat Canelo they must be a hater. You're right he's gonna clean out the 154 division just be patient and watch these hater swallow their words.
I really want to like this guy, but it's just too hard when his division has so many fights to be made and instead he fights a brings a guy out of retirement and a 140 lb. I'll reserve any judgment on the kid 'till he fights a top 10 guy in his division.
well, for what it's worth, ryan rhodes was in the top 5. the problem with rhodes (and looking only at a fighter's ranking,) is that he sucks,
rhodes is not good.
i'm waiting for canelo to fight a 154 lber with punching power who is in his prime. that will show us what he's got. it's likely, however, that he'll fight great fighters in mayweather jr and cotto who are past their best, and naturally no larger than welterweights. floyd and cotto are the best two fighting at jr MW in the world right now, even if they're not actually jr MW.
The problem is he's being groomed to be the "Future of boxing" by being protected somewhat in his opposition. I have no doubt he will take riskier fights, but until then he's not totally proven yet in my eyes as a great fighter. He's a good one no doubt.
not til he fights somebody worthy ...canelo and rigo are mirrors of eachother..both aint done sh11t
You hate for Rigondeaux is undeniable, and no they are not mirrors because Rigondeaux won the belt from a Champion, regardless, and he is trying to fight the best for real not trying to cash out, in his case he is been ducked while Ginger is ducking the whole 154 division, by the way why are you bringing Rigondeaux to Alvarez thread? Sorry I forgot, envy or hate.
Saul beats Cotto, K9, Lara, Rosado, Trout and whoever else.
The guy runs 154.
If Mayweather thinks he can take a year layoff and face Alvarez he's in trouble. He's not the guy you do that against.
And whoever says "but Saul wuz hert bai Cotto's brathur" is an idiot.
That was then and this is now.
The guy hasn't prove $h1t, he doesn't run 154 he is running from fighters that weight 154, if he beats those guys why he is facing 140 lbs and not even rank in their own division? The kid is a fraud until he fight a real contender from his own division, I mean someone that will hit him back.
I can't make predictions? I can't predict that Canelo will tear everyone at 154 up?
The guy attempted to fight 3 strong opponents but luck wasn't on his side, so these fights didn't come to fruition.
And now he's calling out 3 more tough opponents: Cotto, Martinez and Mayweather.
The guy isn't a duck, he's been fighting since a teen, he doesn't fear anyone.
He will fight the winner of Vanes/Lara if he's mandated to. No ducking from him.
You didn't write it as a prediction though. You've called him "the real deal", "the future of boxing", and said that "he runs 154". How are you running a division when you still have the training wheels on? He's a young titlist without respectable opposition on his resume. At least Rosado has fought Angulo/Powell/Whittaker. At least Kirkland has fought Angulo and Molina. At least Lara/Molina have fought each other. At least Lara/Vanes are GOING to fight each other. I know Canelo was scheduled to fight Kirkland and shit happens, he got an A for effort and that's it. Canelo is being treated as if he's earned the throne, when in my eyes, he's still just a court jester when compared to Mayweather and Cotto. I think it's too premature to call him a duck, but consistently fighting guys outside of your division is ridiculous.
Question: IF Trout beats Cotto and Canelo fights another 140/147lber, what would you call that?
What he should do is fight Molina in January, then Cotto/Trout in May, and then fight Lara/Vanes in September. Even the harshest critics would respect that, because those are match-ups worth our attention.
I really want to like this guy, but it's just too hard when his division has so many fights to be made and instead he fights a brings a guy out of retirement and a 140 lb. I'll reserve any judgment on the kid 'till he fights a top 10 guy in his division.
The fact he was wobbled by Jose Cotto is worrysome. J. Cotto is a crap fighter, you ever seen him live?
I'm sure he's gotten better, but J. Cotto is a much smaller fighter then Miguel. Chins don't improve....
sure they do. your chin gets better between the time you're a boy and a man. it won't "improve" after that, unless you're adding weight after being drained, showing up in better shape, etc.
go hit your 19 year old cousin on his chin. then wait until he's in his mid 20's and hit him again.
huge difference.
canelo has shown a solid chin against his recent opponents. they're smaller guys and not huge punchers (cintron and mosley were both bangers, but were both totally shot when they fought canelo,) but they're better and bigger fighters than jose cotto, and he's not getting wobbled when he takes their shots.
his D used to let quite a few punches in. he's getting better, though.
