IMO This is a winnable fight for Dawson. Keeping Ward on the outside will lead Dawson to well controlled fight. Ward is going to have to get inside in order to do work, I can't see him winning an outside battle against Dawson. Dawson very well defensive minded fighter did a great job against Hopkins, not allowing him to come inside and do what Hopkins does best. Ward has always had his ways against his opponents, but what separates Dawson from them is his defense, IMO Dawson defense will trouble Ward. I'm really surprised at the betting line for this fight. +245 for Dawson. I'm hoping it will hit 300 by fight time... thoughts anyone??
I'm giving Dawson a chance, in fact I think he will win.
That hugging and holding that Ward does will not fly against Chad.
I'm not on here very often but i literally looked at your sig for 15 seconds before even attempting to read your post. That is impressive sir.
I don't know anybody saying this is one sided, dawson has a legitimate shot which is why this is gonna be if not one of the most entertaining fights, one of the most anticipated.
Depends how much of a tole making 168 takes on him, hes a pretty big light heayweight like.
Only thing I am going to predict is that this will be the biggest let down, the most boring fight of the year. I can not see this as anything other than a snoozefest.
Both are excellent fighters, have great defense and know how to time their opponents so it all comes down to consistency and workrate which is definitely where Ward excels
Seeing as there probably won't be a stoppage unless Dawson drains himself making the weight I see Ward winning
When Dawson was gonna fight Pascal, I had a weird feeling about that match. I refused to pick a winner because I knew how much of a tough and crazy fighter Pascal is. While every one was sure of a Dawson win, I was nervous about that fight. I was using words like "hoping" Dawson wins, "Pascal will come to fight", "Pascal is a dangerous opponent", etc. I just wasn't sure about the fight. But for this fight, Dawson vs Ward, i'm pretty sure Dawson will do good, good enough? I don't know, but I don't see Ward dominating, and I can actually see Dawson winning a close decision. It's crazy cause Ward is a much better fighter than Pascal, but it's Ward's style that makes me comfortable of Dawson winning this fight.

Yes, he's taller, longer arms, and faster....when he leans in, he can be hit...but if he leans back, and throws that check hook, he can win doing that all night...thats what he did to hoppa poppa
They both have great talent. The difference is that Dawson has a loser's mentality. He's capable of sleep walking through a fight, losing a close decision, then saying "I thought I won the fight". My advice - don't bet on these types of fighters.
Meanwhile, Ward is the "refuse to lose" type.
That's the major difference IMO.
Good points throughout this thread--making me excited about this fight--but this may be the difference. Nice post.

I approve this post.
I also want to say that Ward is waaayy more intelligent than Dawson in a ring. Dawson is a good fighter but I cant see Ward loosing that

The best post in this thread. Green K'd.

Adamek, Johnson, Tarver were all at the very top of 175 when Dawson beat them in dominating fashion, he beat Johnson in a very exciting fight, then beat him again and dominated him. Hopkins is a great win obviously, but Dawson didn't look too impressive in that one. Still he beat Hopkins clearly, something that hasn't been done since 1993.
Dawson's wins over Adamek, Johnson, Tarver, Diaconu, Hopkins are actually better than Ward's wins over Kessler, Froch, Abraham, Bika, Green if we're talking about as a whole. Some might disagree, but that would only be because they forgot who Adamek, Johnson and Tarver were at 175 in those years. They were the top dogs in 2007-2008, Dawson was the young guy who had to prove himself against the best, coming up in the ranks. The rematches was just a rematch clause with Tarver, and the rematch with Johnson was a fight that fans were urging Dawson to make because of how exciting the first one was.
The reason why the fight was so close against Hopkins is because of Dawson's refusal to use his left hand a lot more. Hopkins was walking to Dawson's left the whole fight (Dawson still won the fight just because he's that good).
I think Scully made Dawson too right hand dependent. Previous trainers of Dawson such as Mayweather Sr, Muhammad, and Stewart made Dawson use his left hand a lot more. It was so obvious and I'm pretty sure Scully is working on Dawson's left hand.
Well, there really aren't sure things in boxing when talking world class talents fighting each other.
Of course Dawson has a chance, you don't have to like that chance but you do have to acknowledge it~
Twice...........
AND he beat 3 out of the 4 you named, TWICE! His defense and reflexes are being under-estimated here. Ward will be hit and tested like never before.
The odds makers are good at their job but I disagree with them on this fight. I like Dawson to win. I hope he insisted on a neutral referee and judges. He should keep the fight at long range as much as he can and lock Ward up tight in a clinch if they come together. Ward is very rough up close. He holds and hits and gets away with it in Oakland.
