By the Irs.......He went to war for his country and got railroaded by the IRS he went to service and they wanted every damn dime he won....I dont blame Ali for not fighting in a bullsh1t was for a country who didnt give a sh1t about him..........They did Joe Louis wrong,wrong,wrong.........................he got railroaded
Floyd and Jones are from an era when no matter who accomplished a young minority may be, they are never given proper credit.
Jones, who has done more than any active boxer and probably any boxer of the last 60 years, was constantly criticized.
He took on the best and continued to beat everyone in front of him until he came down from HW.
Floyd is RJJ's heir. He's both the P4P#1 boxer and the best talent in the world.
Floyd generates the biggest numbers.
Floyd has constantly faced the #1s and #2s for 15 years.
Floyd has beaten the recognized champion in EVERY division he's fought in except at 140.
Floyd has done all of this and remained undefeated.
Yet so-called fans become bitter critics because Floyd isn't soft spoken and speaks his mind.
Same thing with Johnson, Louis and Ali.
If you seriously think that things have changed so much you might me suffering from house negro symptoms yourself.
Blacks in America are on TV and setting trends because Whites discovered that BLACK CULTURE IS MARKETABLE. It has nothing to do with any acceptance or equal rights.
If that were so, then artists like Elvis, the Beatles, the Monkeys, the Beach Boys, Tom Jones, the Beastie Boys, Vanilla Ice and Eminem would NEVER have made it to the top. America wants Black talent, rhythm and flavor in White artists and athletes.
And they want their Black athletes submissive, apologetic and timid.
There's a long history in America to substantiate what I just wrote.
RJJ and Floyd already know this. Apparently not everybody is on the same page.
You've gotta be ****in kidding me. It's not anything close to being the same.
There are legions of white boys that wanna be like...and are emulating roy jones and floyd mayweather jr.
Yet at the time not a single white male in the country wanted to be like tyson, ali, or johnson because they were too busy being deathly afraid of them.
Railroaded

What made matters worse is Joe Louis donated a large sum of money from a couple of his fights to the Navy Relief Fund. Because of complicated tax laws, he was not aloud to count that towards deductions.
Read the following link.

Ali got tore a new one also on taxes. There was a documentary on Ali where 70 percent of his purse went to taxes.
Aren't donations to charity tax deductible is the US?
They are now, but it may have been different in the 40's. The problem is Louis never paid the initial income tax in his purses. Why that would be necessary when you're giving all of it to the government any way is beyond me except for a stick up the ass greed.
So going to war should relieve you of your tax duties?
Because if you know history, Louis fought "charitable" fights that generated money for the military and got taxed on it as income. Fk the IRS and praise to Ali for not fighting
Totally true. But my point is Ali is what he is because what he did outside of boxing, he was the american hero who fought against his country because his ideas worth more for he than his boxing career, more than his freedom and his life. Ali is more than boxing, he speaks his truth and for that is remembered. If he alisted in the army and went to vietnam, people in Zaire will not receive him as a hero, and he will not be crowned as the sportsman of the century like he was for the bbc. BBC will not remember Ali if he just did boxing in 90's
Nobody has or had more worldwide popularity than Muhammad Ali as a representative of boxing. I agree with that 100%.
Im not saying that at all, so don't put words on my mouth. But when 70 million people are tuned to hear you fight, more than just boxing fans know who you are.

Are you saying Louis or Schmellin are in the same level of popularity of Ali? I can't believe that. Manny and Floyd can´t even dream of being in the same category of Ali, they are no more than Duran, Leonard or Chavez, and that is the truth.

You're either too young to understand the truth about Vietnam or old and ignorant. America got their butt kicked in Vietnam (thanks to the Chinese and Russians). There was no cause for Vietnam, it was a unnecessary war.
dude was obviously being sarcastic
More than 70 million people listened to the second Louis-Schmeling fight worldwide on the radio. Manny and Floyd sell 1.6 million PPV's individually and everyone knows who they are, believe me, the entire world knew who Joe Louis was.

damned if you do..damned if you dont...........i rather you dont imo thats why Ali is so popular and held at such high regard cause he stood up and took it on the chin and kept going
At the same time, because he did, that is why Louis was so popular and held such high regard. Both did the right thing for their time and particular set of circumstances in my opinion.
No you were degrading Joe Louis and Joe Frazier needlessly.
Joe Louis was pretty popular worldwide anyway. Not to the extent Ali was but still very well known. It is still post-Ali era until he dies. In 30 years he'll fade a bit like Joe Louis I'm sure.
Oh come on, I´m talking about non boxing people. You´re scotish, is there anybody in scotland who doesn´t know who Ali is? I´m pretty sure if you talk about Jack Johnson they think you´re talking about a surfer. If Ali is who he is is because what he did outside boxing. I´m in love whith Frazier still, and I´m not degrading him, but the truth is the truth, non boxing people have no idea who he was. For god sake, people in Zaire thought Foreman was white and that is documented.
If ali is a person who traspass boxing world and is a hero for a lot of people around the world, is because he did't go to war. Who knows who is Louis in Europe outside of boxing fans? Nobody, everybody knows who ali is, he´s almost like El Che.

Do you read my first post? I´m not talking about america. Ali is what he is all over the world because he said **** off to his country, if he never said the obv. like no vit call me a ******* and all this things nobody will know who ali is outside of boxing. Si quieres te lo digo en otro idioma, tonto del culo so who is the moron you monoliguistic ass.

Yes. He donated those purses to the Navy relief fund. It was a charitable contribution. Should you really have to pay your country taxes on money you're donating to you country?
You're a ****ing moron, Joe Louis was just as popular right through to the 60's.
As for the tax situation yeah it's sad. Joe Louis paid all his family's welfare back to the city of detroit and gave the full winnings of fights to the Navy Relief Fund, only to be stabbed in the back.
When Joe Louis was a few years before death John F. Kennedy wrote off all his debt but it was a case of too little too late.

Right. So either louis should be thankful to johnson for ever earning a shot in the 1st place. If not for johnson he wouldnt have had a fortune for the government to take and he would have been a regular rifleman during the war instead of a performer
Or he should blame all his troubles on johnson for being as brash ad he was and pissinh off as many people as he did.
It is a hard one as you say. Maybe if Johnson never won the title they would stay away from a first black man? I don't know.
If Johnson had behaved himself during his time as champion it would have helped Louis' case. That's for sure.
Although since Louis was the man to beat Schmeling and it was near the war and USA vs Germnay. White Americans had to support the German or the Black American, and they chose the American. One of the first instances in USA's history where both black and white alike banded together to support a black man against a white man.
The man Louis won the title from got 10% of all Louis future wages. They had to go to great lengths to assure he got a title shot.
They were actually more wary of a black champion after Johnson. Hence why Louis had to play to the white establishment with his "rules" in order to appear good in the public eye and get his shot.

why??cause he would be a damn puppet?
Ali didn't go to the draught because of the NOI. Robinson was talking with Ali once and Ali said he was scared. Not because of the war etc but because he was confused and didn;'t know whether to listen to the Nation of Islam and not go to the war or go.
Yeah in 2012 the overwhelming sentiment in america is that the vietnam war was a worthwhile cause and that Ali was a massive coward for saying hed rather go to jail.
Oh and the IRS wanted every dime Louis earned, as you know compared to a fixed percentage.....
