He would be known as an ATG.
Now i love Mike Tyson, he's one of my favourite Boxers of all time but i laugh when i see so many people have him so high up in their ATG list. Look at Tyson's record and look at Prince Naseem's record...this may surprise many of you but there's a few similiarities there. The big difference being that Hamed didn't come back from his defeat(once but that was a meh fight) fair enough, however Tyson did come back from defeats but only went on to lose again whenever he faced a true world class opponent.(talking about a live Tyson here, not even taking the McBride and Williams defeats into account)
Now let this be known, i am a huge fan of both boxers. As my username may hint, im a sucker for pure entertainment...which both of these two greats had in bundles....anyway even being a fan of both Tyson and Hamed i can however admit that their records are nothing spectacular. Sure Tyson faced more world class operators than Hamed did, however the fact remains that he lost those fights. It just baffles me why so many people rank Tyson so highly yet dismiss Hamed so easily.
Thoughts?
Naz IS an ATG. maybe not up there with ali and marciano, but he should DEFINITELY be in the top 10. he was amazing and if he cared enough he could have been much better and maybe even a top 3 ATG but he was lazy and not as passionate about boxing
Hamed is NOT an ATG, but he is really underrated. All-Time I'd still say Ricky Hatton did more than Naseem Hamed. In my opinion, I think at some point, Ricky Hatton should get into the HOF. He's defining win was against Tszyu, who IS in the HOF, and he beat Tszyu when he was the #1 JWW in the world.

If it was an American guy acting like that while KOing eurobum after eurobum...you guys would've hated his ass more than any other fighter in history
Mike Tyson was legit in his prime, but I always laughed at the people who think prime for prime that Tyson would beat Ali, and they make excuses for Tyson losing to Buster, it's sad. Ali would stop Tyson in 8-10 rounds, winning every round. We're talking a prime Ali (64-67). A post layoff Ali (70-75), Tyson would have a good shot to win I think.
Agree with this post. By no means am i calling Tyson a fraud...i just find it funny seeing people rank him so high. A great example being the one you have used, Ali vs Tyson. Seeing so many people actually believe Tyson would beat Ali tells you everything you need to know about how much people overrate Tyson.
You should start an 'If Mike Tyson was British' thread...
My guess is that he would not be nearly as highly rated by US posters on here, just another overrated Brit exposed by the superior American Buster Douglas :lol1:

The only name that Hamed ever beat worth mentioning is Kevin Kelley, who came out of retirement to face Hamed.
Hamed went through a list of Euro-bums to make a name for himself. When he came to the mecca of boxing in America, he found out that not every boxer is susceptible to being faked out by showy feints and leaping uppercuts.
Barrera jailhouse raped him in their match and retired him.
Nice try, but the effort FAILED.

Now a post like this one tells you everything you need to know about you as a poster.
Where people like yourself trip up is when you start comparing the rest of Hamed's opponents to MAB. That is wrong. Barrera is a All Time Great. It is unfair for you to compare the rest of the fighters on Hamed's record to Barrera. Whilst they cant be compared to a ATG like Barrera, they certainly cannot be written off as some 'Euro Bums'. People like Johnson, Medina, Kelley, Soto, McCullogh, Vasquez and Ingle were certainly not ''Euro-Bums''. Whilst none of them were ATG like Barrera, they were much more than just Euro Bums.
Yes, if you had read the thread properly i have already said there is a lack of ATG fighters on Hamed's record, and the one that is on Hamed's record is a loss. However, he built up a pretty solid Featherweight resume when you look at the names he has on his record. A person who says Hamed's record is filled up of Euro Bums quite simply does not have a clue what he is talking about.
Hamed had the speed, power, durability and skill to be ATG. I think if he'd have been American I think he'd have gone on to better things as I think he would've been a more orthodox fighter with better fundamentals.
I do miss him though, boxing hasn't been the same since.
What a crock of *****!!!! Just like Roy Jones, as soon as he met up with some real comp he got blasted out. Unlike Roy, Hamed retired!!!!!! Stop using that America bulll**** card. Most of us Americans just wanna see good fights no matter where fighters are from!!!!
''Blasted out''? Hardly, it was a 8 to 4 round fight. You make it sound as if he got KTFO'd. Typical Mexican bias when recalling the actual fight, unless you haven't even bothered to watch the actual fight? I'd go with the latter. If anyone was gonna get blasted out in that fight, it would have been MAB, had he come to bang. Instead he tactically outfought Hamed and he deserves all the credit he gets for that.
Also if you had actually bothered to read the thread you would have seen that i too do not think that he should be remembered as an ATG, im just saying that he would be remembered as an ATG, due to the undeniable bias towards American fighters. Hell, to this day i still see many a people claim Lennox Lewis was nothing special LOL.

naaaaah... i couldn't see him beating the four who rose to prominence when he decided nit to fight anymore...
a fight between him and manny or erik would've been very exciting to watch though...
While Naz certainly fought some good fighters, Marquez, Barrera, Mayweather, and Morales all were better fighters and each would have/did beat him. Against these 4 ATGs, being a good puncher just isn't good enough. All of these guys counter punch the ears off Naz
Naz lacked discipline, that's why he failed vs Barrera. His speed, power was far superior to that of Manny / Mayweather. Those guys though, have more success due to them living the boxer's life style/discipline inside and outside the ring, Naz just couldn't and that's why he failed. He ignored his corner's advice in between rounds, he turned his cheek the other way when Steward spoke to him (Barrera fight) , very arrogant and he paid for it (by losing)
Hamed was fun to watch but he never got that signature win. Any of Mexico's big three win would had been good for him and made a case for him being a sure shot HOF.
It doesn't have to do anything with not being american. He had legit HOFamers in his weight class and the minute he fought one he lost and never came back after the tune up fight he had
I don't think it makes a difference. He lost to Barrera and where most elite fighters would come back and gain back their thrown / notoriety, he just disappeared and got into sh*t. He wasted a good amount of his remaining years which could've been filled with fights w/ Erik Morales, Manny Pacquiao, Juan Manuel Marquez, etc.
With that being said, he was exciting to watch as long as he was active. Also considering he wasn't from the US, he was actually a popular guy in the States when it came to Boxing. I remember my friends even at a young age not knowing Boxing wanting to see his fights.
