Anyone has any idea why is Maidana such an underdog in this fight? My logic says Alexander should be the underdog.
I am just guessing.....they know sth we don't.....maybe

the oddsmakers always take into consideration the promoter and where the fight is being held.
Being Alexander is a Don King fighter and the fight is in his hometown, not too mention he's had two highly controversial decision wins already in his hometown, it's no surprise alexander is the favorite.
Basically, the oddsmakers believe maidana will need a KO to win.
no devons with golden boy now
unless Maidana knocks Alexander out....
Alexander will automatically win
Even then, we can't be too sure the ref won't call it a headbutt or something like in Martinez-Cintron. Alexander should absolutely be favored here.
Khan looked better against Maidana than Morales did. Maidana looked bad against Morales and still won, rightfully so. Maidana looked good against Khan and still lost, rightfully so.
So Morales couldn't beat a Maidana who clearly overlooked him.
I disagree about the first sentence but I agree with the rest.
It's not for a title, but there's always non title fights that go 12 rounds. Ortiz-Berto wasn't for a title but it was scheduled 12 rounds. It happens all the time and boxrec is saying it's a 12 round fight and I can't find anything else that says otherwise...
I thought till today its 12 rds. New England said it few pages back that its 10 rds. Honestly, title or not, I don't see any reason this two wouldn't go 12 rds.
Is it for a title? If not then it's supposed to be a 10 round fight. Non title fights are usually 10 rounds, unless they're some big PPV fight like Mayweather-Mosley, or some title eliminator.

Boxrec has the fight listed as a 12 round fight. And I can't find anything that says this is going to be a 10 rounder. Anybody got a link or something that says Maidana-Alexander is a 10 round fight?

Nope Morales is shot and Maidana is just an unskilled brawler with power and a ton of heart.
Yes but he is not just a unskilled brawler, he is the definition of relentless and knockdowns dossent work on him .
Imo he is on level with the Kahn/Bradly/ortizs of boxing ,but his apeal is that with only half there skills,he still manages to tear them up :boxing:

That gives a big testament to Morales though, he could do what Khan and Kotelnik couldn't do, Make Maidana look amateur.

I wish Maidana beats the odds, I like the guy.
Alexander is the fave because
1. Hometown advantage
2. Stylistically, Devon CAN win regardless of the venue. It just makes the most sense money wise to have the fight in St Luis because of Devon's good drawing power.
3. Despite Alexander looking bad against Bradley, Matthysse, and Kotelnik...Maidana has also looked bad against even lesser opposition than Alexander, like a way past it DeMarcus Corley, and a shot to pieces Morales.
But Maidana has certainly looked better against the better fighters like Ortiz and Khan. And Maidana also performed a bit better against common opponent Kotelnik.
At the end of the day, with all things considered, Devon is the right guy to go with. But I'm hoping Maidana wins.
This^. Maidana is not nearly as good as some people think he is.
Or Morales issent as shot as people think he
The morales fight is IMO a bad fight to gauge maidana from, maidana style is tailor made for a old fox like morales that can turn him and slip his punches while landing his own.

Well is a cliche but styles do make fights and for this not only do we have home advantage but also fight goes for 10 rds. Which will benefit Alexander. As much as I dislike Alexander as a fighter I think he pulls this one. I hope I'm wayyyy wrong.
If this fight were in Vegas and 12 rounds it'd be an even money fight.
But it's in St Louis, and only a 10 round fight, so Alexander should be favored.
I can't believe Alexander is fighting another 10 round fight btw. That's ridiculous for a guy who's supposed to be a top fighter. He has a lot to prove even if he continues to be in tough fights. 10 round fights are for prospects.
Maidana has to sell out to win he is a slow starter that usually loses the first couple rounds. That plays into Alexander who likes to pit pat away before he commits to anything. In fact Maidana might be tailor made for Devon being a slow short plodder similar to Urango.
He is not a slow starter, he tried to kill Amir as soon as the bell rang ,was swinging away on morales from the get go, and knocked down Ortiz in the first round.
Its the other way around, alexander needs to be on his A game from the get go if he dos his tit tat puching, maidana will catch up to him and give him hell.
