Seriously, it's incredible to find some fans completely ignoring the facts and posting nonsense about how Margarito will trash Cotto. Anyone with common sense and objectivity should realize that this fight is an uphill battle for Margarito.
The truth is AM has not defeated a world class boxer since Cotto himself and that was more than three years ago, he's coming off two of the worst beatings of the last decade against Mosley and Pacquiao, he has not had a fight since November 2010, had a career threatening eye injury, and he will fight for the first time since that injury against a world class opponent who, physically speaking, is less damaged than him. If the fight stays in NY Cotto will also have homefield advantage.
If I was a Margarito fan, which I' am not, I would be a bit more conservative and just hope for the best instead of posting predictions that seem very unlikely. I don't say that AM does not have a chance, he actually does if the eye holds up, but this is Cotto's fight to lose. It's one thing to root for a fighter and a whole different ballgame to be blinded and ignore the facts.
By the way, I'm not a fanatic Cotto stan. I just tell it like I see it. Margarito has a chance but it's slim when compared to his chances in 2008.
Most replies here show a pattern. Cotto, on paper, should be the winner of this fight. I hope the fight is, at least, half as entertaining as the first one.
Cotto has suffered some beatings. But, from what I see in Cotto last couple of fights. Especially the Mayorga fight...Really, he didn't impress at all against a shot to pieces Mayorga. Made me believe if and only IF, a big If, Margarito has something left, anything left. Even a drop left. That he will give Cotto hell and more than likely beat him. But, if Margarito is done and shot to pieces which seems to be the case then Cotto got this.
Completely agree, if Margarito is even the same guy from the Pacquiao fight then I have full confidence he wins, because Cotto is close to gone. They are at similar points IMO, and in that case Margarito's an awful style match up for Cotto.
Most likely scenario is that Margarito is in the middle of a strong comeback and is taking over when the damage to his eye is too much and the fight gets stopped.
wtf?

Whoa. Cotto just said if Margarito isn't licensed in NY he wont fight. He says New York or nowhere. #wherewillthefightbe #boxinbg

Read that as well, wonder whats happening with Arum freaking out lol
I think Cotto is the more skilled of the two. If his conditioning holds up and if his defense has improved even a little bit, then he should take a decision here.
But I don't know how good Cotto's camp has been. His inability or unwillingness to stick with any one trainer bothers me, it smacks of inconsistency. If he was still training with Steward, then I'd actually put money on Cotto taking this one.
As things are, I think Margo will give Cotto hell. I'd say there's a 60% chance this ends with a decision for Cotto and a 40% chance of another KO for Margo.
Like I said in a thread I made earlier this week, Cotto ONLY wins this fight because Margarito is possibly shot-Roy Jones status.
You never know, can't count Margarito out the guy has heart and will (which Cotto lacks) that might prevail for one last hurrah.
Question his heart after you step in the ring with men he has. No heart but he stays in the ring getting beat down with plaster, would u like him to die? Would that display enuff heart for you u ****? Cotto took a lot out of Margs in teh first fight as well, they both been through wars. Cotto will win fair and square bc they both been ****ted on since their fight. Screw the EXCUSES haters like you will come up with - Margarito is going down without the plaster, LMAO.

I will try to be as unbiased as possible. I am a true fan of Cotto, nothing has hurt me in boxing as much as his lost to Marg. To be honest to me it felt worst than Tito lossing to B-hop. With that said I am giving a slight edge to Cotto. He surrounded himself around the right people this time around. He is very focused, the fight will be in N.Y. I was told by my brother that he even got this MMA guy who is a pressure fighter to help as a sparring partner which is good. I think for the first time Cotto is carrying the hearts and minds of the Puertorican community on his shoulders just like Tito did. He does not want to disappoint and prove he was cheated and robbed of having one of the best boxing careers in the last 20 years. Many have said that he is all about money, I happen to believe this fight means much more than money to him. We all know he fought a beautiful fight that night and came short, he will make the neccesary changes based on a loss. People underestimate the power of lossing. Can Margo be any better than he was that night? Probably not, he is and always will be a pressure fighter how ever with the punishment he has taken I highly doubt that he will be able to sustain clean effective punching from Cotto for lets say the first 5 rounds. I know Marg will come to win and prove a point also. The Marg that showed up to fight Pac agree with me or not would have dominated the current crop of fighters at 154 including Cotto. I just don't think he will be able to hold so much punishment much longer if he swells up early count on a TKO victory for Cotto by Ref. stoppage. The fight is in N.Y. Cotto will have judges and ref. on his side. Sad but true this is boxing. I just know Cotto can make changes for the rematch, what can Marg do diff? Nothing he will move forward and get tagged early in the fight. People forget he was also busted up after the Cotto fight, his face wont hold up as nicely this time around(neither Cott's) but Cotto in terms of boxing will dominate early rounds. I know there is no quit in him that's why I believe the ref. will stop this fight and give Cotto the victory.
This is exactly what befuddles me. I guess blind fans will be blind fans.
Objectivity is something that's seriously lacking on this site.
You've got PR's blindly saying "Margarito cheated!"
and you've got Mexicans blindly saying "Margarito didn't cheat!"
There are solid posters around, but they're few and far in between. I love discussing boxing with everyone on this site (even HTown who sometimes gets on my nerves but it's all good). And then you have idiotic posters (who I won't mention) who are just extremely biased and truly post dumb things.
People should look at things calmly and rationally. I'm sure we all go on "nuthug" mode during the fight, but afterwards it's important to look at things from an objective standpoint. Unfortunately, the sport is not very graceful or elegant to begin with. It's primitive and savage for the most part, and fans of it (especially those who have never boxed, or worse, don't actually do well in school) adhere more to the irrational than the dynamics of boxing itself.
I agree with your initial post in this thread, I just hope we get a good fight regardless what happens or who wins (and that nobody comes out of it damaged for life).
Its going to be an up hill battle for the two of them. At the end Cotto should come on top with a late KO/TKO or UD.
Cotto seems renewed and alive. I think that he catched a new win with this new trainer, may be is the change he was looking for.
i wouldnt put too much weight on the mayorga fight. outside of de la hoya and trinidad nobody really looks that great against the guy. he's just so awkward and unorthodox. mosley was struggling with him up until the knockout and we all saw what he did to margarito in his next fight.
and to the TS, not only did margarito take vicious beatings against mosley and pac, but in the first cotto fight as well. i think a lot of people overlook the damage margarito took in that fight because of how busted up cotto was and all of the aftermath with the wraps
i think it will be a good fight and another war but i favor cotto by mid-late stoppage. margarito isnt exactly a defensive whiz and that eye is just really fuucked up looking. im really curious to see what happens when cotto lands on the right side of margarito's face
Yeah, the first Cotto fight also meant punishment to Margarito. I just focused on the worse losses but the 2008 fight also contributed.
I've been thinking about this as well. The odds are incredibly stacked against Marg but there are so many Marg nuthuggers claiming some pretty bold predictions for their fighter.
This is exactly what befuddles me. I guess blind fans will be blind fans.
Margarito was known for having an outstanding chin, but we don't know how much of that is left. Mosley stopped him convincingly and Pacquiao staggered him on several occasions and could have stopped him with a little more effort at the end. There is a possibility that Margarito's chin is nowhere near what it used to be. There are many questions about Antonio and we can only speculate while trying to find the answers. December 3rd will put an end to the speculation.

I believe many people are underestimating the weight. Margarito had a huge size advantage in the first fight, and now he will have an even bigger advantage, which is why Cotto requested a catchweight. He has always struggled to make weight, and now he will not have to. Bottom line is that although Cotto may be fresher, he has no business at 154
Perhaps Cotto will gain some power with the extra weight?
Tough to like Margarito in this fight, although if Cotto bullshits and fights off the back foot who knows because that never is a good look for him.
As long as Cotto goes in there with the mindset to be offensive and not back down he should force Margartio back and win rather easily
Like I said in a thread I made earlier this week, Cotto ONLY wins this fight because Margarito is possibly shot-Roy Jones status.

this is what makes the fight more interesting, we want to see who out of the two of them is completely done. I personally think Cotto has more in him, but I can't see him stopping Marg.
