He has always been number 3 on my personal list right behind Floyd Mayweather and Sergio Martinez. I think he justified that ranking last night.
I know some of you have him NO. 1 or 2. Does he keep that spot or did he plummet in your ranking?
Antrob: I would also add that Marquez achieves what he does because he's willing to take a shot from Pac to land one. Mayweather isn't afraid in there, but he hates getting touched which could affect how in position he is to capitalize in the way JMM can. I want to see how that plays out.
That is a good point. I would love to see how that plays out too.
pac is a cheating bum who made a name for himself by fighting weight drained bums from top rank..a nearly 40 year old marquez smashed him at HIS WEIGHT CLASS...mayweather is number one..marquez number 2...the klitschko brothers 3 and 4.....ROIDQUIAO doesn't even belong in the top 50...he's a sore loser and he knows it :lol1:
This right here.

.........I think Martinez is higher I just can't see Pacquiao handling Pavlik,Williams,Dzizurik,Barker etc
you see how ridiculous that sounds? Marquez is a lightweight that had his best days at featherweight. Oscar got a title at Middleweight.
completely different Weightclasses. The comparison doesn't apply
point taken, but i disagree.... pac also defined his legacy at the lower weights. yet he fought the bigger dudes.
pac & jmm are essentially the same size (thats why i compared them, one decided to stay at the lower weights, the other decided to test himself at the higher weights)....comparing pac and sergio is off... the starting point of comparison doesnt work in that scenario. but i get what you were trying to say.
if you want to compare pac & sergio... IMO, then it would be martinez jumping up to 168 and beating solid competition (not great, but solid). but we all know martinez is unwilling to do that. sergio wont even CONSIDER 168.
btw, after saturday night... i think sergio is on the cusp of snagging #1. all he needs is a solid win over pirog, kirkland, or comparable fighter.... lets not forget sergio didnt look too great against barker.... if he impressed against barker, then i have no problem with pac slipping below sergio.
either way, the p4p rankings is a mess.... the top 3 didnt impress with their last bouts.
OR if floyd wins in february against a solid opponent, then floyd EASILY returns at #1.
either way, pac is in trouble. 2012 p4p lists will get shaken up.
You try hard to sound objective but you're clearly biased. Pacquiao does'nt deserve any benefit of the doubt over Mayweather or any other fighter when talking p4p. You also seem to dismiss the role that he and his team have played in the Mayweather fight not being made as of all on Mayweather. Finally Mayweather would be the clear favorite if they do fight and if you can't admit that then you're not being honest with yourself.
I've written much about the role both have played and dismiss nothing. The March 2009 fight fell apart when Pac's side walked away. May's side killed round two. I have no bias and if one of us lacks objectivity, it isn't me.

Personally, I prefer jmm.... but I still rank pac higher. I just can't imagine jmm handling cotto, Oscar, etc.... jmm went to war with some subpar lightweights.... at least pac shut down elite level fighters (although faded ones)...
My sig reflected my preference of jmm over pac/Floyd.
I don't want jmm to retire, I think he should try to get a title at 140 & 147.... up stage Morales' bogus 4th division title. I think jmm should keep the weight on and compete at 140 first.
But yeah, tough call, but I still rank pac higher p4p...

He is still #1 ... So he won a close decision against an All-Time great...all of sudden posters in here saying he is a hype job LMAO... I will be the first one to admit I thought Marquez would not go past 10 and I tip my hat to him, he is my third favorite fighter after Cotto and Khan but damn he lost a close fight thats what great fights/fighters do they fight in close fights. Pac is still ahead of Floyd ahead of Sergio and ahead of Marquez. HE WON!!!!!.
I just watched the fight again, with no sound and I strongly feel that JMM won that fight. I had it a draw last night but not now. This is my personal top 5 P4P.
1. Floyd Mayweather
2. Sergio Martinez
3. Juan Manuel Marquez
4. Manny Pacquiao
5. Nonito Donaire
Cliff if you feel that Pacquiao "probably will lose" why do you rank him above Mayweather P4P rise?
I think he's done more and deserves the benefit of the doubt for the time being and I don't have strong enough convictions on who wins. I lean Mayweather but I've never been convinced Mayweather is all that certain or we'd have seen it by now. JMO
Pac might (probably will) lose, but he won't lose easy.
