alvarez would need to use every square inch of that ring and try and weather the storm for the first 3 rounds. if he can make it out of that then i think kirkland would be a bit slower and alvarez can start taking his shots. if he can knock him down like angulo did somewhere in the fight, then he has a chance of knocking him out. but seeing as he's a disciplined fighter and likes showing his craft, he might take it to a decision if he doesn't feel the need to take any risks.
it all depends if alvarez can survive the first 3 rounds imo. even then kirkland would still be throwing bombs in the rounds after. truly a hard fight for both guys. hope it gets made, alvarez needs this.
If Anne Wolfe can get Kirkland's defence sorted, Canelo doesn't have a chance.
To be realistic, his defense really doesn't have much more go... The only way his defense will be that much better is if he was less agressive, in which case he'd probably be a lot more boring.
I think all he needs is the ability to know when to back off, as oppose to being any better at defense. Sure it could be tweeked a little, but its not like he's got a long way to go
It would make a good scrap. I am not entirely convinced Kirkland has granite chin, since he recovered from a flash K.O. Yet both carry good power. Watching two glass cannons go at each other, would make an entertaining fight.
Ain't it funny how "fights of the year" a la Kirkland-Angulo are usually between 2 fighters with zero defensive skills?
Canelo is a superior boxer and will KO Kirkland. Easily.
canelo is the superior boxer but he suffers from cottoitis. hes easy to hit. and he doesnt have enough power to keep pressure fighters off of him. seen it a million times, thats why this fight is proly 50/50 for me. but id put my money on kirkland. i would love to see the fight tho.
Canelo gets murdered for sure. Kirkland rapes him and knocks him out in 7 rounds tops.:boxing: Canelo ain't no match for Mandingo Warrior! Its gonna be a good fight while it lasts, but after the first 3 rounds, I have no doubt Kirkland will take over completely.
How was it not a fluke? So you're saying that last night didn't prove otherwise? Would you bet your life savings on Ishida in a rematch?
I wouldnt bet my life savings on any fight ever.
And I wasnt that surprised at the result of last night, although I probably was favoring Angulo slightly. and that came very close to happening in the first round anyway.
Just because Kirkland had a great showing last night doesnt magically erase the Ishida fight. Kirkland has his flaws, and Ishida exploited them when they fought. Its not like Kirkland dramaticaly changed up his style from Ishida to Angulo, its just that he was in much better condition.
and I dont think Id favor Ishida in a rematch, since Id be assuming that Kirkland would be in much better shape, and his style is completely based around conditioning. Doesnt change the fact that Kirkland is a sucker for running into straight punches.
point is, Kirkland didnt lose because of a lucky punch. He lost because of exploitable flaws in his style. He can overcome these flaws with his conditioning, but theyre still there.
The Ishida fight was not a 'fluke'. Kirkland came into the fight out of condition, yes, but it still highlighted a glaring flaw in him that also was highlighted last night: he leaves himself wide open when he punches, and you dont need a lot of power to drop someone when they run into your punches.
Thankfully, Kirkland more than makes up for that problem with his ridiculous amount of stamina and tenacity. But you cant just write off the loss and say it was random.
I would like to see Alvarez vs Kirkland.

The Ishida fight is now a certified fluke bozo (look at Khan-Prescott).
Kirkland just took bombs from Angulo, one of boxing's biggest punchers, but it's okay if Canelo wants to believe that Kirkland will be easy work and make the mistake Angulo did.
Oh trust me, he won't, if he treated Rhodes like he was this monster in the ring, imagine how he'll treat Kirkland in the ring.
this is the fight that must be made....but canelo KOs kirkland i mean c'mon ishida mopped kirkland...

Kirkland is Canelo's mandatory, I think he would completely destroy Canelo.
Common... Alvarez isn't going to face him. The WBC would never do that to him.
That might be true, but even with that said I think Canelo hits hard enough to get James attention early. That kid is very good. Hes patient, strong, quick and has a lot of punches he can throw at you with accuracy and power.
Alvarez was being out boxed by Gomez bro,and he does not punch harder then Angulo..This is boxing so anything can happen, but as long as Kirkland is with Ann I have to take him over Alvarez...
Kirkland wins this fight imo,Alvarez was losing to Gomez before the bogus stoppage..Noway he can beats Kirkland, and did anyone notice Kirkland showing off some fancy boxing skills last night??Kirkland is not a finished product yet,but he looks good with Wolfe, that's for sure...
I. Love kirkland and i was rooting for him last night.
But i would bet serious cash on canelo .. But we all saw the heart kirkland has last night so i wouldnt count him out at all.
