shoot, i dunno, i hope this sparring vid was shot at the conclusion of a long day of training.
he doesn't look anywhere near as sharp as he is used to, and all that extra muscle APPEARS to be having a negative effect on his normally crisp combination punching. on top of that, his balance looks off - he isn't pivoting, nor is he using his legs to set up his counter-punching angles, both of which are characteristics that make marquez the fighter he is.
i could be wrong, and by no means am i an expert, but his current build looks a bit too bulky for his frame and fighting style. the strength coach should've attempted to balance his physique out more by adding some of that mass to his legs instead of concentrating it all on the upper body. he looks as stocky as miguel cotto for goodness sake! :dunno:
Looks like JMM is trying to match Pacquiao's strength. Not sure that's a good idea. I agree with everything you're saying, it looks a bit bulky on his frame. He should be playing to his own strengths, not Pacquiao's. Suspect strategy IMO.
Pac=younger, bigger, faster, more prime at his best weight and sparring former two time champ in his prime going for world title too.
Juan=slower, older, past prime and moving up two divisions. His sparring consists of bum taxi drivers that don't even have records, let alone as a current top, world class champ that can emulate Pac or even give a good work out.
This fight is already over going by this.
LOL the sparring partner on the 1st video doesn't even have 0.5% of Pacquiao's hand speed and the 2nd one is not going to make Marquez break a sweat either.
RIP Marquez.
Well... bigger marquez... this dude wants a freaking battle to the end this time.... looks like it might end sooner than I thought and he really would rather die than lose.
Could have been at the end of a long day of training. Not enough information to make an informed opinion.
He does look more muscular. Has he retained his speed, how are his reflexes? he could be exhausted already and its not truly indicative of his current level of prowess.
I used to think this fight was going to be somewhat competitive but now I take that back. Marquez is going to get completely annihilated. The second sparring session showed me a lot because that sparring partner did a better job at copying Manny's style. He was able to land combinations on Marquez like it was no problem while Marquez had a tough time landing on him. If Marquez doesn't work on his head movement and foot movement he is in for a world of hurt. And if Marquez thinks Manny's power hasn't increased since his featherweight days he's got another thing coming.
To be fair, the guy was bigger than Marquez by quite a bit. His physical strength, height, and arm length definitely came into play. Still, point taken.

He didn't look bad. The first time I saw this video, I thought he looked bad. Now that I have seen it again, I can see he is working on his counter punching and defense. This is why he leans so much against the ropes. I can see he is trying to make his opponent pay for mistakes he makes. There is a beautiful uppercut counter to the body he throws in the second video as the guy is throwing his jab. He threw some nice counters throughout. Hopefully, we get more updates from both camps.
Did anyone notice it was a 5:00 minute sparring.
I hope he is practicing laying on the floor
Haha, that's brutal. I wish my man Marquez all the best, but I have a really bad feeling about this one.
Edit: Might I add, JMM was catching a beatdown in the second video. Nacho looked disgusted at times. He still landed a right hand that shook his sparring partner, and could end any fight instantly.
