Ok so I will like to start with the biggest boxing star I have met in person...for me it was "Macho" Camacho took a pic with him. I was about 15 back then. I also met Edge (WWE) back when I was 11 at the airport in P.R. back then I used to love wrestling. Seen the "Hitman" Hearns at the D. Pistons game once and also David Ortiz in chicago...Anyone else?
I went to school with Gareth Barry (man city) I spoke to Christiano Ronaldo very briefly before Portugal Vs Brazil at the Emirates.
My Dad is Mates with Jeff Capes (worlds strongest man years ago)
ermmmmm thats it really
Andre Ward. Back in 05', I was lingering around the UC San Francisco campus with a friend when we are approached by Andre, who was actually slanging tickets himself for his upcoming fight with Christopher Holt down in San Jose. I knew who he was from all the coverage he had gotten locally from the Olympic run, but I'm a pretty level dude, just jokingly commented about him being out there selling his own tickets and simply wished him luck. 05' was actually long enough ago that neither my boy or I had a camera on our phones, so no picture.
Also, my same friend saw Nonito Donaire at a Costco. And about 4 years ago, me and a group of friends were waiting in line to get into Jet Lounge in Vegas when we see an entourage of probably 8 deep huge dudes (mostly in suits) walking AWAY from Jet. In the middle of it all was NBA player Tracy McGrady. Had me thinking we were all wasting our time waiting to get into this place while T-Mac wasn't having it! lol

i got to meet nonito donaire at an open workout here in nyc at gleasons gym in Brooklyn.really nice guy and cool as hell.funny too he was imitating a bunch of famous boxers styles in the ring.he did Floyd, tyson, pacquiao, and a few others.i took a picture with him and he let me hold his two belts
i met the ATG Juan Manuel Marquez yesterday at work. got a pic no autograph though. sucks i forgot to ask for an autograph
Damn man... how could you forget?
lol
I'd grab anything to have him sign... I'd even let him sign my face.
But for me, I bet Mikey Garcia, Kelly Pavlik and Donaire during the Narvaez fight.... twas cool
My mothers cousin was a trainer so through him I met James Tony, Tommy Hearns,Mark Breland, and Riddick Bowe. Also Boom Boom Johnson but hes kinda a prick.
at the boxing hall of fame in 05 or 06 alexis arguello was a table over from me sitting all by himself eating...i was gonna go up to him but didnt wanna interrupt him.
I know Evander Holyfield (really good friends with my dad, they came up boxing together). I'd say he is the most famous boxer I've met. I also know Tony Romo, he's a former college football teammate of mine. I'm actually going to see him this week, our old head coach is retiring and they are having a HUGE reunion for all of the players. I'll try my best to post pictures.
Who, what when, where? Did you meet Tito? :wank:
I just saw you met Arce kind of amazing. One day when I get rich I will move out of Michigan and be able to meet more. Boxing is almost dead here, Mexicans and some other Latin Americans keeping it alive few prospects from The D I read about but not much.
Boxers are some of the nicest and accessible sports stars. I also met Marvin Hagler at a bar in New Hampshire. He wasn't a jerk, but he wasn't overly friendly either. He did sign his hat from the International boxing hall of fame and gave it to me though. I've met stars from other sports and most of them act like they're to good to be bothered. Most fighters,or people in the fight game aren't like that from my experience.
100%
boxers love attention.
unlike other sports you're likely to be completely unknown at the begginning of your career, unless you are ray leonard.
guys in basketball and baseball and football to a lesser degree have had people telling them they are the greatest thing going since sliced bread from the time they hit puberty.
most boxers labor in complete obscurity for years before they make it to the top, often making very little money.
when they get to the top they appreciate it more, because of the way they are brought up in the sport.
and i also think lots of it has to do with the fans
boxing fans (not the ones on the internet, but paying fans in the building) are very respectful and appreciative of the fighters and the work they do
real boxing fans are some of the most loyal on the planet, especially regional ones.
and to answer the OP i met ray borque when i was in a hockey shop in my youth
he was in his prime.
early 90's. he was built like a refrigerator. no joke, he and a refrigerator share identical dimensions.
i didnt understand how a man could have that much muscle and not look fat.
i was with my father. we were on the way out and he was on the way in. he said "hello" and waved to us right away and i think he held the door. this was a long time ago. early 90's.
for you guys who dont know who ray borque is he's the best defenseman to ever play hockey not named bobby orr
for years he was also the best shot in the league. played on a terrific bruins team in the 90's with hall of famers adam oats and the baddest man in the league cam neely. ever seen "dumb and dummer?" cam neely is "seabass."
he played i believe it was 18 seasons with the bruins (who drafted him)
he famously took off his number 7 jersey when it was retired for espizito and became number 77. one of the classiest gestures you will ever see.
and then he was traded to the avalanche and won the cup for the first time and retired.
in the 90's he was a legitimate star. the most famous athlete i've ever met.
