Why do people act like Mayweather Ortiz is a great fight?

It is probably the best fight Floyd can make at welterweight besides Pacquiao but it is a terrible fight in the respect that it will not be competitive at all. One of the main tools required to beat Mayweather is a good stiff jab and Ortiz has no jab whatsoever. One mediocre win against Berto (who, lets face it, was overrated and green) has tricked people into thinking this is a great comeback fight for Mayweather. Berto will be aggressive and is very open to right hand counters which Floyd is brilliant at. People need to remember that Ortiz was getting outboxed by LAMONT PETERSON at times. Mayweather will put on a clinic and I won't be impressed at all. The same way that I won't be impressed if Pac KO's an ageing JMM. you can credit pbf, gbp and hbo for that.....pbf for taking so long to pick a legit opponent (not a security guard nor a woman) and gbp and hbo for the usual hyping

Because it is a helluva fight, Floyd is fight a young strong fighter with heavy hands and and good speed, tell me the last time Pac has did that. I think Vic will make it an interesting fight.

Ortiz is fresh. Not only is he legit on paper, but the Berto fight did a lot for him. He fought with a determination that was questioned in his fights at 140. He displayed an impressive attack and pretty much mauled down Berto, who had it coming. He's a pretty good opponent. A respectable one for a return.

It's a legit fight but Mayweather will win a UD over Ortiz...99% probability Yeah I agree with this except... I see it as a 99% WIN probability for Mayweather, but I can also see Ortiz check hooked and subsequently TKO'd... he leaves himself open a LOT. That is if May stands his ground ala vs. Mosley.

I agree that the Pac fight is bull**** and do not advocate it in any way shape or form. I don't have beef with Mayweather fighting Ortiz in the sense that there are no better fights out there, but to say that it is a good fight is ridiculous. As I mentioned previously, Ortiz was outboxed at times by peterson! How will he deal with mayweather? And why should I give mayweather credit, we know why he picked ortiz lol. People say why doesn't pac fight martinez since he fought at JMW, well why doesn't Mayweather. I think Floyd could lose because really this ain't the same Floyd. He's older, he hasn't been in the ring in a long time. Ortiz is hungry, young, has skills, and will be really motivated to represent for Mexico. Ortiz has always been a good boxer the only thing that was lacking was heart. IMO the Berto fight proved he has grown some balls. Believe me bro you might see the birth of a new star in Ortiz. If you watched the Ortiz vs Berto fight you would know why people are hyped over him fighting Floyd. Because he beat Berto now he has a shot to beat Mayweather??Then why May did not fight Collazo??I would rather see that fight at this point then May Ortiz.. I get it people are still hype over a good fight,but let's be honest here..Vic is a few fights removed from quitting and fighting to a draw with Peterson(who was rumored to have gave Floyd some trouble)and now he is ready for a Mayweather??B.S.Ortiz should have proven himself against other WW(if he was smart)who he would have had a better chance of beating then Mayweather.. You know there was a thread about this fight potentially happening and I wrote this f*ckin essay explaining my thoughts on it, b/c the TS said Victor will be dumbed down as an opponent if the fight comes to fruition (addressing the haters) and I agreed, but I explained both sides of the spectrum and then my f*ckin computer shut down for some reasons and you know, essay lost - but to sum up, even though this fight is now official.... It's not a great fight, but it's a solid scrap for what can be made...the welterweight division is kinda weak, I'm sorry, it is. Don't knock Victor though, I can admit as boxing fans we have a very short term memory, we don't remember Ortiz struggling to get to Peterson (who ain't no Floyd Mayweather), and we don't remember Maidana more or less exposing Victor at his own game...but if you're as good as your last fight, then you pass with flying colors. But this fight, today, for what it's worth, is SOLID. There are problems with Victor that I would like to see him improve upon, but the one thing that Victor has over Floyd, might be power, might be...it's hard to gauge with that 1 welterweight fight. For Victor to utilize his power he needs to stop telegraphing his big punches, Floyd will see that coming all night long and take Victors only weapon away. But with that said, Victor in himself is a well-rounded fighter and when he's on, he can be really fun to watch. I'm really looking forward to this scrap, I think it's gonna be good for what it's worth and I hope that people can give Victor a chance, atleast I will.

Word one thing I love about Pac is he took 3 ass whuppings and went on to be Great. Even Amir Khan got flattened and look where he is now. Hatton got whooped and turned into an alcoholic. Both Pac and Khan got KO'd young Hatton lost when he was older and way more accomplished..To be fair Hatton had nothing left to prove(to himself that is)..

I disagree, Floyd fights more with his head than any other tool at his disposal if a guy fights with their head they can continue on at a high level even as their athletic abilities fade. They can still be good, but they are not what they were. Floyd is a great cerebral fighter, but to pretend that speed and reflexes aren't a significant part of his game is nonsensical.

This. Ortiz has pop, size, and youth; I don't see this fight as an easy fight for Mayweather. Well sorry then, you don't know much about boxing. Ortiz has a punchers chance and that is it. And mayweather isn't getting put away with one punch from Ortiz either.

Its not a great fight but it is better then Floyd not fighting anybody. I like Ortiz alot and who knows maybe he will pull the upset.

A lot of people have this misconception that Floyd is not reliant on speed and reflexes. I am not denying that Mayweather will not be competitive anymore as he gets older, but he won't be the amazing fighter he once was. I just don't understand why Mayweather has wasted so much of his talent by not fighting.
