I bet everyone would go crazy over/about him. Thats a fact, a cold, hard fact. But since he's British/European, he gets very little respect, like Lewis before him. But in contrast to Lewis, Joe really is worthy of being called a legend. Look at Pavlik, 2 wins over Taylor and he was already the NEW BIG THING in America. Just to remind you once again, here's a list of notable boxers Joe beat, listed more or less cronologically:
Chris Eubank
Robin Reid
Richie Woodhall
Charles Brewer
Omar Sheika
Byron Mitchell
Jeff Lacy
Sakio Bika
Mikkel Kessler
Bernard Hopkins
Roy Jones
To answer the original question, I don't think it is a racial thing or a regional thing.
I think it is a televison thing.
Most people alas think if something is on TV it is real and true (when the opposite is usually the case); and if they don't see it on TV, it isn't real.
I used to tell fellow American fans to see anything they could of the fights with Benn, Eubanks, Collns, Watson. Many American fans didn't get to see them because they weren't on TV in the USA when they fought each other over in Europe.
So I think it is a televison thing. Calz was unappreciated in the US before the Lacy fight because he was unknown mostly. After that, he had many or some American fans.
Now thanks to streaming, youtube etc, people can see fights from around the world, either live or soon thereafter--even if they can't afford SHO or HBO live.
Real boxing fans appreciate the art and science of a great or good fighter reagardless of where he comes form or what "race" he is of.
We are all of the human race.
Well, maybe with the exception of Valuev. But that's a whole 'nother story...
:lol1: Good point. Your whole post makes sense and I know, its the sad, blunt reality. Americans believe only what their tv tells them, most of em anyway...
if Calzaghe had been American he surely would have been taught to turn his punches over............Rockin':boxing:
Its strange that, that flaw was never fixed
Joe didn't DESERVE a fight with Hopkins or RJJ in 2002:boxing:
No one wanted Hopkins Hakkar, which was seen as a massive mismatch. After it was turned down by both HBO and Showtime, King would talk Showtime into buying it as a package deal. The fights Showtime wanted were Harry Simon and Calzaghe. Hopkins turned it down and walked around from a 3m purse
How did calzaghe lose when he won on every card by a far margin except for Chris byrd's wife ( who is black and a judge )?
It was a terrible fight, but calzaghe clearly beat him to a pulp.
I hope you were just joking about Chris Byrd's wife, who is neither black or a boxing judge.
I should have sopped reading after the bolded part......
Explain to me how Calzaghe has done more than Lennox Lewis to be a legend.....
He's undefeated, for starters. He didnt get knocked out by RAHMAN of all people when he was supposedly on top of his game. He never got saved by a doctor's call like Lewis did in his last fight. Joe's legacy may not seem as strong as Lewis's, coz Joe didn't fight as many good fighters, but the fact that he didn't lose or get any really questionable decisions, like Lewis did over Mercer and Holyfield in the rematch, helps his case.
He did not beat him to a pulp.
If Calzaghe really won, he won by a single point and nothing more. It was about as razor thin as you can get. Had he beaten Hopkins more decisively, that would have been Calzaghe's best win easily.
The judges liked Calzaghe's workrate over Hopkins harder, cleaner shots. There are a good number of experts who thought Hopkins barely won.
I don't think Hopkins got robbed like against Pascal as the fight was so close, but this was not Calzaghe's best performance or win.
And Chris Byrd's wife is white, and she is not a boxing judge, not that it matters.
What clean shots was Bhop landing? Calzaghe didnt have a scratch on his face. Alll bhop did the entire fight was hold and try to wrestle calzaghe to the ground. Typical bhop bullcrap. The fight was not close at all, calzaghe landed more punches on BHop than almost anyone in history

The most astonishing thing is that according to you Calzaghe haters, Bhop turned past prime for the Calzaghe fight but then went back to prime for Pavlik fight. You just needs something to excuse the fact your boy got owned.
who the fukk ever told you that you lieing little sht?
mosley was past prime and beat margarito
bhop is definitely, WITHOUT A DOUBT past prime before calzaghe and pavlik, doesn't mean he's not good, just not at his peak any longer

Negative, kessler is not his best win. Bhop peaked late and was coming off dominating wins, calzaghe ate him.
RJJ had just whooped tito trinidad, calzaghe demolished him
I would have said so, but considering how the fight was too damn close, I would say no.
I just can't see the Hopkins win as Calzaghe's best win when he struggled against him and arguably lost?
Kessler was a very good, prime fighter who was beaten decisively.
And the Jones win was a joke. Beating an overweight, shot Tito Trinidad doesn't make Calzaghe's win over Roy any better.

Froch lost to kessler, a guy that calzaghe mauled in his prime.
Don't get me wrong froch is great, but when you say " super middle weight", the only name that counts is calzaghe
I thought Froch beat Kessler. It was a close fight that could have gone either way.
Kessler was Calzaghe's best win.
Only in racist NSB is eubank, reid, collins, bika, RJJ, bhop, kessler, lacy, woodhall, former WBO, WBA, WBC, IBF, The Ring magazine & British super middleweight champion and Ring magazine Light-heavyweight Champion a "bum"
lol @ this terrible racist website
Exactly! Suddenly guys like Brewer, Woodhall, Reid are bums. Brewer and Reid both got robbed against Ottke, both held belts, IBF and WBC respectively and both gave Joe a good fight, Reid especially.

You are spot on. Eubank, Jones, and Hopkins all destroy him in their prime. One could argue that old Bernard did beat him. Joe was an opportunist who fought big name fighters out of their prime or at the tail end of their career and still could not win big. At least when Pacquiao beat up Hatton and Oscar at the end of their careers, he did it big. He didn't struggle to a decision.
Carl Froch faced tougher competition in the past 2-3 years than Calzaghe faced in his entire career.
