Paul Williams Career was ended in Atlantic City when he fought Sergrio Martinez in their second meeting. Paul took a devasting blow to the dome that sent him head fist, kissing the canvas like he was in love. Fighters who get ko in that fashion are never the same, mentally or physically. Something gets loose in a mans head after getting ko like that. The slightest punch will put Williams on shaky legs. A fighter can probably thump Williams on the head and ko him after that blow he took. Although it sounds funny its a serious Matter. If I was Al Haymon i'd advise Paul to take sometime off from the sport to regroup and rest a while. And above all....STAY AWAY FROM MARTINEZ.
On a serious note Paul should retire because his brain will never recovcer fully from that blow. If he is stupid enough to come back, it shouldnt be in 2011 IMO....
I think Pauls punch resistance has been on the slide for a little while actually but im not gonna write him off just yet, he has alot going for him still and has the mentality needed to come back from such a defeat. Id like to see him tighten up his defences a bit and make better use of his size

you dont know what you are talking about.
yes some fighters never recover physicly or mentallky from a nasty KO, but its not something u can just assume. lots of fighters come back better from these kind of things. if u asked me to name one active fighter who would do teh best job of overcoming something like this i would say paul williams, no doubt he will bounce back from this. physicly its really out of his hands, i expect his punch resistance will decline. your taking it way too far though, he might go from one of the greatest chins p4p to just one of teh best in his own division, which still aint bad.
nothing gets loose in a mans head after getting KOd like that, williams wont get knocked out from a thump on the head and his brain already has recovered from the blow by now. the only thing funny is your ignorance.
look for williams to become a 4 time world champion in 2011.
The great Roberto Duran was knocked out in a more brutal fashion by Thomas Hearns...and he came back to flatten Iran Barkley for the Super middlewight title.
Paul Williams will be just fine.
We'll see. I think it was a bad clue that maybe the way Williams fights has finally started to take its effect on his body. Still, Williams is a confident guy and his size and style will still give anyone at 147 or 154 a tough night. The only way I see his career being completely done is if his chin is completely gone, which I don't think it is. He just took a hell of a punch from a middleweight.
U learn your craft as an ameture...once you reach a certain level in the game its hard to change your style. Its easy to say, oh all he needs is better defense but doing it is different. Once he gets in the ring in the back of his mind hes gonna be thinking , please dont get ko please dont get ko...and hes gonna try and trade and get ko..
look at khan for example...everytime marcos hit him his legs were shaking and personally the fight couldve been stopped in the tenth round. His post fight interview was about how he didnt get ko, not that he won the fight. Because in his mind he was praying please dont get ko again...fighters are never the same trust me
It really depends on what needs to be fixed in their defense. If it's minor or something that can be adjusted easily then I can't see why it can't be done.
All Williams needed to do is protect his face (keep his right hand high) while throwing that punch. He left himself wide open. If he made that adjustment, maybe it would have been Martinez looking at the canvas because if you look at the tapes, Martinez was just as open as Williams. The difference is that he timed it perfectly and appeared to be quicker at throwing that punch.
BUT Williams also needs to fix other things. Look at what he does in the Cintron fight. He was just as open after he let go his punch but Cintron couldn't connect.
i hate how once a boxer gets KTFO he should retire.
how about get better defense?

shocking.
a mayweather fan thinks a top fighter should retired after a loss.
this is boxing.
everyone losses. sometimes by ko.
not everyone 147-160 is sergio martinez.
and in case you forgot , last time he had a loss he won the rematch decisively and he also had a competitive 1st fight to the guy who knocked him out.
pwill is fine. those fast 1 shot brutal ko's is actually better for you than going a tough 12 rounds.
We must not be talking about the same Paul Williams? The Paul that was winning the margarito fight until the 6th round and in my mind was a draw? Paul was getting his head pounded that fight. THen he fought carlos q and was getting chopped like a tree. Every punch he threw was hitting williams on the chin, i was shocked he didnt get ko. Yeah he came back with a one round ko, but that makes them 1 and 1 and he didnt rematch him because he knew he could get beat again. Paul lost the first fight with sergio martinez, the dude was getting clocked every round and looked dumb. Paul got a booger knocked out his nose so i know he lost. Then the rematch was even worst, he got cold clocked again and went face down ass up...I dont think a fighter should retire because of a lost...that mother ****er got KNOCKED THE **** OUT...sleep with his eyes open man...that wasnt cute...u just dont dust your shoulder off and come back from that..
Exactly... and whats up with all the negativity? He may very well not recover, but the way I read your thread it sounds like you're wishing it on him. Any man that wishes ill will on a person they don't know should seek help. Or possibly get a hobby.
How am I wishing ill will on Williams when im saying he shouldnt fight? I dont want to see the man hurt after taking a blow to his head like that. People dont recover from shots like that, so why play with your brain?? Wheres the ill will in that?? Wanting someone to get in the ring and get ko again is wishing ill will and thats what your doing..
shocking.

You don't know Paul Williams
Many fighters who've gotten KO'd brutally have come back. It's up to them to decide what's best for them. I still think P.Will could beat most 154lbers, and most middleweights (maybe not martinez and pavlik) , but middleweight isn't his weight class
Best recent example - Khan who got taken out by Prescott in 1 minute. Prescott KO loss ---> Kotelnik ---> Malignaggi ---> Maidana
Stick to being a PED expert :boxing:
khan's ko by prescott wasn't nearly as bad as williams. i'm not saying willams can't make a comeback but that was a serious knockout and i agree that he will need to take a good amount of time off. he needs a new trainer and needs to use his size and reach.
Hell no. Williams still has a very good future at 154 and if he can still make the weight, 147. Then later down the road, after he works on his defense a bit, he can move back up to MW. I think if he ever got with Steward, he'd be deadly, add some outside to go with his already stellar inside game.
The only guy he should be fighting at MW right now is Pavlik, because I still want to see it.

Do you know Paul Williams personally??? It's a good thing that we have some internet neurologist wannabes here on BS who can tell us exactly what's going on with our favorite boxers, and what's best for them to do.

I Dont think Williams career is over. I think he needs to reestablish himself in a division like junior middleweight and stay there. No more of this hoping around. Run the table at junior middle weight and big fights will come. I do agree a rematch with martinez will not help him at all
That's ur opinion, good for U,I think he'll be back making big splash's in no time flat!!:boxing:
U right...i could def be wrong, but if im right...make sure u come tell me i was right..
How are their careers even remotely close to Paul Williams'?
None of those fighters i listed took punishment like Marquez and the other guy you named. Fighters that take punishment like margarito etc will be brain dead or have speech problems like roach etc. Fighters that get ko cold, and dont get up past the 10 count are never the same. Roy was never the same after the tarver ko, hatton was never the same after the floyd ko and i hope he never fights cuz pacs ko was icing on his cake. Taylor was never the same after the pavlik ko and got ko twice after that...Paul is a brawler and he's gonna take big shots to let off his. After that martinez ko, paul will fall a lot easier....smaller guys will ko paul...u watch..
